Parable of the Marriage Feast

1JesusG2424 spokeG3004 to them againG3825 in parablesG3850, sayingG3004, 2“1The kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 2isG3666 likeG3666 3a kingG444G935 whoG3748 4heldG4160 a 5weddingG1062 feastG1062 for his sonG5207. 3And he 6sentG649 his slavesG1401 to callG2564 thoseG3588 who had been invitedG2564 to the weddingG1062 feastG1062, and they were unwillingG3756G2309 to comeG2064. 4AgainG3825 he 7sentG649 otherG243 slavesG1401, sayingG3004, ‘TellG3004 thoseG3588 who have been invitedG2564, “BeholdG2400, I have preparedG2090 my dinnerG712; my oxenG5022 and my fattenedG4619 cattleG4619 are all butcheredG2380 and everythingG3956 is readyG2092. ComeG1205 to the weddingG1062 feastG1062!”’ 5But they paidG272 noG272 attentionG272 and wentG565 their separate waysG565, oneG3739 to his ownG2398 8farmG68, anotherG3739G1161 to his businessG1711, 6and the restG3062 seizedG2902 his slavesG1401 and treatedG5195 them abusivelyG5195, and then killedG615 them. 7Now the kingG935 wasG3710 angryG3710, and he sentG3992 his armiesG4753 and destroyedG622 thoseG1565 murderersG5406 and setG1705 their cityG4172 onG1705 fireG1705. 8ThenG5119 he saidG3004 to his slavesG1401, ‘The weddingG1062 feastG1062 is readyG2092, but thoseG3588 who were invitedG2564 were not worthyG514. 9SoG3767 goG4198 to 9the mainG1327 roadsG3598, and inviteG2564 whomeverG3745G1437 you findG2147 there to the weddingG1062 feastG1062.’ 10ThoseG1565 slavesG1401 wentG1831 outG1831 into the streetsG3598 and gatheredG4863 togetherG4863 allG3956 whomG3739 they foundG2147, bothG5037 badG4190 and goodG18; and the weddingG3567 hallG3567 was filledG4092 with 10dinnerG345 guestsG345.

11“But when the kingG935 cameG1525 inG1525 to lookG2300 overG2300 the 11dinnerG345 guestsG345, he sawG3708 12a manG444 thereG1563 who was not dressedG1746 in weddingG1062 clothesG1742, 12and he saidG3004 to him, ‘13FriendG2083, howG4459 did you getG1525 inG1525 hereG5602 withoutG3361G2192 weddingG1062 clothesG1742?’ And the man was speechlessG5392. 13ThenG5119 the kingG935 saidG3004 to the servantsG1249, ‘TieG1210 his handsG5495 and feetG4228, and throwG1544 him into 14the outerG1857 darknessG4655; there will be weepingG2805 and gnashingG1030 of teethG3599 inG1563 thatG1563 placeG1563.’ 14For manyG4183 are 1516calledG2822, but fewG3641 are 17chosenG1588.”

Poll-tax to Caesar

1518ThenG5119 the PhariseesG5330 wentG4198 and 19plottedG4824G2983 togetherG4824 howG3704 they might trapG3802 Him 20in what He saidG3056. 16And they sentG649 their disciplesG3101 to Him, along with the 21HerodiansG2265, sayingG3004, “TeacherG1320, we knowG3609 that You are truthfulG227 and teachG1321 the wayG3598 of GodG2316 in truthG225, and 22do not careG3199 what anyoneG3762 thinks; for You 23are not partialG991G4383 to anyoneG3762. 17TellG3004 us thenG3767, whatG5101 do You thinkG1380? Is it 24permissibleG1832 to payG1325 a 2526poll-taxG2778 to 27CaesarG2541, orG2228 not?” 18But JesusG2424 perceivedG1097 their 28maliceG4189, and saidG3004, “WhyG5101 are you testingG3985 Me, you hypocritesG5273? 19ShowG1925 Me the 29coinG3546 used for the poll-taxG2778.” And they broughtG4374 Him a 30denariusG1220. 20And He saidG3004 to them, “WhoseG5101 imageG1504 and inscriptionG1923 is thisG3778?” 21They saidG3004 to Him, “Caesar’sG2541.” ThenG5119 He saidG3004 to them, “31ThenG3767 payG591 to CaesarG2541 the things that are Caesar’sG2541; and to GodG2316 the things that are God’sG2316.” 22And hearingG191 this, they were amazedG2296; and 32they leftG863 Him and wentG565 awayG565.

Jesus Answers the Sadducees

2333On that dayG2250 some 34SadduceesG4523 (who sayG3004 35there is noG3361 resurrectionG386) cameG4334 to 36Jesus and questionedG1905 Him, 24sayingG3004, “TeacherG1320, MosesG3475 saidG3004, ‘37IfG1437 a manG5100 diesG599 havingG2192 noG3361 childrenG5043, his brotherG80 asG1918 nextG1918 ofG1918 kinG1918 shall marryG1918 his wifeG1135, and raiseG450 upG450 38childrenG4690 for his brotherG80.’ 25NowG1161 there were sevenG2033 brothersG80 amongG3844 us; and the firstG4413 marriedG1060 and diedG5053, and havingG2192 noG3361 39childrenG4690, he leftG863 his wifeG1135 to his brotherG80. 26It was the sameG3668 alsoG2532 with the secondG1208 brother, and the thirdG5154, downG2193 toG2193 the seventhG2033. 27LastG5305 of allG3956, the womanG1135 diedG599. 28In the resurrectionG386, thereforeG3767, whoseG5101 wifeG1135 of the sevenG2033 will she be? For they allG3956 hadG2192 her in marriage.”

29But JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to them, “You are mistakenG4105, 40since you do not 41understandG3609 the ScripturesG1124 norG3366 the powerG1411 of GodG2316. 30For in the resurrectionG386 they neitherG3777 42marryG1060 norG3777 are givenG1061 inG1061 marriageG1061, but are likeG5613 angelsG32 in heavenG3772. 31But regardingG4012 the resurrectionG386 of the deadG3498, have you not readG314 whatG3588 was spokenG3004 to you by GodG2316: 32‘43I amG1510 the GodG2316 of AbrahamG11, the GodG2316 of IsaacG2464, and the GodG2316 of JacobG2384’? He is not the GodG2316 of the deadG3498, but of the livingG2198.” 33When the crowdsG3793 heardG191 this, 44they were astonishedG1605 at His teachingG1322.

3445But when the PhariseesG5330 heardG191 that Jesus had silencedG5392 46the SadduceesG4523, they gatheredG4863 togetherG1909G3588G846. 35And oneG1520 of them, 4748a lawyerG3544, askedG1905 Him aG1905 questionG1905, testingG3985 Him: 36“TeacherG1320, whichG4169 is the greatG3173 commandmentG1785 in the LawG3551?” 37And He saidG5346 to him, “‘49You shall loveG25 the LordG2962 your GodG2316 with allG3650 your heartG2588, and with allG3650 your soulG5590, and with allG3650 your mindG1271.’ 38ThisG3778 is the greatG3173 and 50foremostG4413 commandmentG1785. 39The secondG1208 is likeG3664 it, ‘51You shall loveG25 your neighborG4139 as yourselfG4572.’ 4052Upon theseG3778 twoG1417 commandmentsG1785 53hangG2910 the wholeG3650 LawG3551 and the ProphetsG4396.”

4154NowG1161 while the PhariseesG5330 were gatheredG4863 togetherG4863, JesusG2424 askedG1905 them aG1905 questionG1905: 42“WhatG5101 do you thinkG1380 aboutG4012 the 55ChristG5547? WhoseG5101 sonG5207 is He?” They saidG3004 to Him, “56The son of DavidG1160.” 43He saidG3004 to them, “ThenG3767 57howG4459 does DavidG1160 5859in the SpiritG4151 callG2564 Him ‘LordG2962,’ sayingG3004,44‘60The LordG2962 saidG3004 to my LordG2962, “SitG2521 at My rightG1188 handG1188, UntilG2193 I putG5087 Your enemiesG2190 underG5270 Your feetG4228”’? 45ThereforeG3767, ifG1487 DavidG1160 callsG2564 Him ‘LordG2962,’ 61howG4459 is He his sonG5207?” 4662NoG3762 oneG3762 was ableG1410 to offerG611 Him a wordG3056 inG611 answerG611, norG3761 did anyoneG5100 dareG5111 from that dayG2250 on to askG1905 Him anyG3765 moreG3765 questionsG1905.
