Laborers in the Vineyard

1“For 1the kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 is likeG3664 2a landownerG3617 whoG3748 wentG1831 out earlyG260 in the morningG4404 to hireG3409 laborersG2040 for his 3vineyardG290. 2When he had agreedG4856 with the laborersG2040 for a 4denariusG1220 for the dayG2250, he sentG649 them into his vineyardG290. 3And he wentG1831 out aboutG4012 the 5thirdG5154 hourG5610 and sawG3708 othersG243 standingG2476 idleG692 in the marketG58 placeG58; 4and to thoseG1565 he saidG3004, ‘You alsoG2532 goG5217 into the vineyardG290, and whateverG3739G1437 is rightG1342 I will giveG1325 you.’ And so they wentG565. 5AgainG3825 he wentG1831 out aboutG4012 the 6sixthG1623 and the ninthG1729 hourG5610, and didG4160 7the sameG5615 thingG5615. 6And aboutG4012 the 8eleventhG1734 hour he wentG1831 out and foundG2147 othersG243 standingG2476 around; and he saidG3004 to them, ‘WhyG5101 have you been standingG2476 hereG5602 idleG692 allG3650 dayG2250 long?’ 7They saidG3004 to him, ‘BecauseG3754 noG3762 oneG3762 hiredG3409 us.’ He saidG3004 to them, ‘You goG5217 into the vineyardG290 tooG2532.’

8“When 9eveningG3798 cameG1096, the 10ownerG2962 of the vineyardG290 saidG3004 to his 11foremanG2012, ‘CallG2564 the laborersG2040 and payG591 them their wagesG3408, beginningG757 with the lastG2078 group to the firstG4413.’ 9WhenG2532 thoseG3588 hired aboutG4012 the eleventhG1734 hourG5610 cameG2064, eachG303 oneG303 receivedG2983 a 12denariusG1220. 10When thoseG3588 hired firstG4413 cameG2064, they thoughtG3543 that they would receiveG2983 moreG4183; 13but eachG303 of them alsoG2532 receivedG2983 a denariusG1220. 11When they receivedG2983 it, they grumbledG1111 at the landownerG3617, 12sayingG3004, ‘TheseG3778 lastG2078 menG2078 have workedG4160 only oneG1520 hourG5610, and you have madeG4160 them equalG2470 to us whoG3588 have borneG941 the burdenG922 and the 14scorchingG2742 heatG2742 of the dayG2250.’ 13But he answeredG611 and saidG3004 to oneG1520 of them, ‘15FriendG2083, I am doingG91 you noG3756 wrongG91; did you not agreeG4856 with me for a denariusG1220? 14TakeG142 whatG3588 is yoursG4674 and goG5217, but I wishG2309 to giveG1325 to thisG3778 lastG2078 manG2078 the sameG2532 as to you. 15Is it not lawfulG1832 for me to doG4160 whatG3739 I wishG2309 with whatG3588 is my ownG1699? OrG2228 is your 16eyeG3788 17enviousG4190 becauseG3754 I amG1510 18generousG18?’ 16SoG3779 19the lastG2078 shall be firstG4413, and the firstG4413 lastG2078.”

Death, Resurrection Foretold

1720As JesusG2424 was aboutG3195 to goG305 up to JerusalemG2414, He tookG3880 the twelveG1427 disciples aside by themselvesG2398, and on the wayG3598 He saidG3004 to them, 18“BeholdG2400, we are goingG305 up to JerusalemG2414; and the SonG5207 of ManG444 21will be 22deliveredG3860 to the chiefG749 priestsG749 and scribesG1122, and they will condemnG2632 Him to deathG2288, 19and 23will handG3860 Him over to the GentilesG1484 to mockG1702 and scourgeG3146 and crucifyG4717 Him, and on 24the thirdG5154 dayG2250 He will be raisedG1453 up.”

Preferment Asked

2025ThenG5119 the motherG3384 of 26the sonsG5207 of ZebedeeG2199 cameG4334 to 27Jesus with her sonsG5207, 28bowingG4352 downG4352 and makingG154 a requestG154 of Him. 21And He saidG3004 to her, “WhatG5101 do you wishG2309?” She saidG3004 to Him, “CommandG3004 that in Your kingdomG932 theseG3778 twoG1417 sonsG5207 of mineG1473 29may sitG2523 oneG1520 on Your rightG1188 and oneG1520 on Your leftG2176.” 22But JesusG2424 answeredG611, “You do not knowG3609 whatG5101 you are askingG154. Are you ableG1410 30to drinkG4095 the cupG4221 that I amG3195 aboutG3195 to drinkG4095?” They saidG3004 to Him, “We are ableG1410.” 23He saidG3004 to them, “31My cupG4221 you shall drinkG4095; but to sitG2523 on My rightG1188 and on My leftG2176, thisG3778 is not MineG1699 to giveG1325, 32but it is for those for whomG3739 it has been 33preparedG2090 by My FatherG3962.”

24And hearingG191 this, the tenG1176 became indignantG23 with the twoG1417 brothersG80. 2534But JesusG2424 calledG4341 them to Himself and saidG3004, “You knowG3609 that the rulersG758 of the GentilesG1484 lordG2634 it overG2634 them, and their greatG3173 menG3173 exerciseG2715 authorityG2715 overG2715 them. 26It is not thisG3779 wayG3779 amongG1722 you, 35but whoeverG3739G1437 wishesG2309 to becomeG1096 greatG3173 amongG1722 you shall be your servantG1249, 27and whoeverG3739G1437 wishesG2309 to be firstG4413 amongG1722 you shall be your slaveG1401; 28justG5618 as 36the SonG5207 of ManG444 37did not comeG2064 to be servedG1247, but to serveG1247, and to giveG1325 His 38lifeG5590 a ransomG3083 for manyG4183.”

Sight for the Blind

2939As they were leavingG1607 JerichoG2410, a largeG4183 crowdG3793 followedG190 Him. 30And twoG1417 blindG5185 menG5185 sittingG2521 by the roadG3598, hearingG191 that JesusG2424 was passingG3855 by, criedG2896 out, “LordG2962, 40haveG1653 mercyG1653 on us, 41SonG5207 of DavidG1160!” 31The crowdG3793 sternlyG2008 toldG2008 them to be quietG4623, but they criedG2896 out allG3173 the moreG3173, “LordG2962, 42SonG5207 of DavidG1160, haveG1653 mercyG1653 on us!” 32And JesusG2424 stoppedG2476 and calledG5455 them, and saidG3004, “WhatG5101 do you wantG2309 Me to doG4160 for you?” 33They saidG3004 to Him, “LordG2962, we want our eyesG3788 to be openedG455.” 34MovedG4697 with compassionG4697, JesusG2424 touchedG681 their eyesG3659; and immediatelyG2112 they regainedG308 their sightG308 and followedG190 Him.
