Paul at Corinth

1AfterG3326 theseG3778 thingsG3778 he leftG5563 1AthensG116 and wentG2064 to 2CorinthG2882. 2And he foundG2147 a JewG2453 namedG3686 3AquilaG207, a nativeG1085 of 4PontusG4193, having recentlyG4373 comeG2064 from 5ItalyG2482 with his wifeG1135 6PriscillaG4251, becauseG1223 7ClaudiusG2804 had commandedG1299 allG3956 the JewsG2453 to leaveG5563 RomeG4516. He cameG4334 to them, 3and becauseG1223 he was of the sameG3673 tradeG3673, he stayedG3306 with them and 8they were workingG2038, for by tradeG5078 they were tent-makersG4635. 4And he was reasoningG1256 9in the synagogueG4864 everyG3956 10SabbathG4521 and trying to persuadeG3982 11JewsG2453 and GreeksG1672.

5But whenG5613 12SilasG4609 and TimothyG5095 13cameG2718 downG2718 from 14MacedoniaG3109, PaulG3972 began devotingG4912 himself completelyG4912 to the wordG3056, solemnlyG1263 15testifyingG1263 to the JewsG2453 that 16JesusG2424 was the 17ChristG5547. 6But when they resistedG498 and blasphemedG987, he 18shookG1621 out his garmentsG2440 and saidG3004 to them, “Your 19bloodG129 be on your own headsG2776! I am cleanG2513. From nowG3568 on I will goG4198 20to the GentilesG1484.” 7ThenG2532 he leftG3327 thereG1564 and wentG2064 to the houseG3614 of a manG5100 namedG3686 21TitiusG5102 JustusG2459, 22a worshiperG4576 of GodG2316, whoseG3739 houseG3614 was nextG4927 to the synagogueG4864. 823CrispusG2921, 24the leaderG752 of the synagogueG752, believedG4100 in the LordG2962 25with allG3650 his householdG3624, and manyG4183 of the 26CorinthiansG2881 when they heardG191 were believingG4100 and being baptizedG907. 9And the LordG2962 saidG3004 to PaulG3972 in the nightG3571 by 27a visionG3705, “Do not be afraidG5399 any longer, but go on speakingG2980 and do not be silentG4623; 10for I amG1510 with you, and noG3762 manG3762 will attackG2007 you in order to harmG2559 you, for I have manyG4183 peopleG2992 in thisG3778 cityG4172.” 11And he settledG2523 there a yearG1763 and sixG1803 monthsG3376, teachingG1321 the wordG3056 of GodG2316 amongG1722 them.

12But while GallioG1058 was 28proconsulG446 of 29AchaiaG882, 30the JewsG2453 with oneG3661 accordG3661 roseG2721 up againstG2721 PaulG3972 and broughtG71 him beforeG1909 31the judgmentG968 seatG968, 13sayingG3004, “ThisG3778 manG3778 persuadesG374 menG444 to worshipG4576 GodG2316 contraryG3844 to 32the lawG3551.” 14But when PaulG3972 was aboutG3195 to 33openG455 his mouthG4750, GallioG1058 saidG3004 to the JewsG2453, “IfG1487 it were a matterG5100 of wrongG92 orG2228 of viciousG4190 crimeG4467, OG5599 JewsG2453, it would be reasonableG3056 for me to putG430 up with you; 15but ifG1487 there are 34questionsG2213 aboutG4012 wordsG3056 and namesG3686 and your own lawG3551, lookG3708 afterG3708 it yourselvesG846; I amG1014 unwillingG3756G1014 to be a judgeG2923 of theseG3778 matters.” 16And he droveG556 them awayG556 from 35the judgmentG968 seatG968. 17And they allG3956 tookG1949 holdG1949 of 36SosthenesG4988, 37the leaderG752 of the synagogueG752, and began beatingG5180 him in frontG1715 of 38the judgmentG968 seatG968. But GallioG1058 was not concernedG3199 about anyG3762 of theseG3778 thingsG3778.

18PaulG3972, having remainedG4357 manyG2425 daysG2250 longerG2089, 39tookG657 leaveG657 of 40the brethrenG80 and putG1602 out to seaG1602 for 41SyriaG4947, and with him were 42PriscillaG4251 and 43AquilaG207. In 44CenchreaG2747 45he 46had his hairG2776 cutG2751, for he was keepingG2192 a vowG2171. 19They cameG2658 to 47EphesusG2181, and he leftG2641 them thereG847. NowG1161 he himselfG846 enteredG1525 48the synagogueG4864 and reasonedG1256 with the JewsG2453. 20When they askedG2065 him to stayG3306 for a longerG4183 timeG5550, he did not consentG1962, 21but 49takingG657 leaveG657 of them and sayingG3004, “I will returnG344 to you againG3825 50if GodG2316 willsG2309,” he setG321 sailG321 from 51EphesusG2181.

22When he had landedG2718 at 52CaesareaG2542, he wentG305 up and greetedG782 the churchG1577, and wentG2597 downG2597 to 53AntiochG490.

Third Missionary Journey

23And having spentG4160 someG5100 timeG5550 there, he leftG1831 and passedG1330 successivelyG2517 throughG1330 the 54GalatianG1054 regionG5561 and PhrygiaG5435, strengtheningG4741 allG3956 the disciplesG3101.

24NowG1161 a JewG2453 namedG3686 55ApollosG625, an 56AlexandrianG221 by birthG1085, 57an eloquentG3052 manG435, cameG2658 to 58EphesusG2181; and he was mightyG1415 in the ScripturesG1124. 25ThisG3778 manG3778 had beenG1510 instructedG2727 in 59the wayG3598 of the LordG2962; and beingG2204 ferventG2204 in spiritG4151, he was speakingG2980 and teachingG1321 accuratelyG199 the things concerningG4012 JesusG2424, beingG1987 acquaintedG1987 onlyG3440 with 60the baptismG908 of JohnG2491; 26and 61he beganG757 to speakG3955 out boldlyG3955 in the synagogueG4864. But when 62PriscillaG4251 and AquilaG207 heardG191 him, they tookG4355 him asideG4355 and explainedG1620 to him 63the wayG3598 of GodG2316 moreG199 accuratelyG199. 27And when he wantedG1014 to goG1330 acrossG1330 to 64AchaiaG882, 65the brethrenG80 encouragedG4389 him and wroteG1125 to 66the disciplesG3101 to welcomeG588 him; and when he had arrivedG3854, he greatlyG4183 67helpedG4820 thoseG3588 who had believedG4100 throughG1223 graceG5485, 28for he powerfullyG2159 refutedG1246 the JewsG2453 in publicG1219, demonstratingG1925 68by the ScripturesG1124 that 69JesusG2424 was the 70ChristG5547.
