Peter’s Arrest and Deliverance

1NowG1161 aboutG2596 that timeG2540 1HerodG2264 the kingG935 laidG1911 handsG5495 on someG5100 whoG3588 belongedG575 to the churchG1577 in order to mistreatG2559 them. 2And he 2had JamesG2385 the brotherG80 of JohnG2491 3putG337 to deathG337 with a swordG3162. 3When he sawG3708 that it 4pleasedG701 the JewsG2453, he proceededG4369 to arrestG4815 PeterG4074 alsoG2532. NowG1161 5it was during 6the daysG2250 of UnleavenedG106 Bread. 4When he had seizedG4084 him, he putG5087 him in prisonG5438, deliveringG3860 him to fourG5064 78squadsG5069 of soldiersG4757 to guardG5442 him, intendingG1014 afterG3326 9the PassoverG3957 to bringG321 him out before the peopleG2992. 5SoG3767 PeterG4074 was keptG5083 in the prisonG5438, but prayerG4335 for him was beingG1096 madeG1096 ferventlyG1619 by the churchG1577 to GodG2316.

6On 10the veryG1565 nightG3571 whenG3753 HerodG2264 was aboutG3195 to bringG4254 him forwardG4254, PeterG4074 was sleepingG2837 betweenG3342 twoG1417 soldiersG4757, 11boundG1210 with twoG1417 chainsG254, and guardsG5441 in frontG4253 of the doorG2374 were watchingG5083 overG5083 the prisonG5438. 7And beholdG2400, 12an angelG32 of the LordG2962 suddenly 13appearedG2186 and a lightG5457 shoneG2989 in the cellG3612; and he struckG3960 Peter’sG4074 sideG4125 and wokeG1453 him up, sayingG3004, “GetG450 up quicklyG5034.” And 14his chainsG254 fellG1601 offG1601 his handsG5495. 8And the angelG32 saidG3004 to him, “GirdG2224 yourself and 15putG5265 on your sandalsG4547.” And he didG4160 soG3779. And he saidG3004 to him, “WrapG4016 your cloakG2440 aroundG4016 you and followG190 me.” 9And he wentG1831 out and continued to followG190, and he did not knowG3609 that what was beingG1096 doneG1096 by the angelG32 was realG227, but thoughtG1380 he was seeingG991 16a visionG3705. 10When they had passedG1330 the firstG4413 and secondG1208 guardG5438, they cameG2064 to the ironG4603 gateG4439 that leadsG5342 into the cityG4172, whichG3748 17openedG455 for them by itselfG844; and they wentG1831 out and wentG4281 alongG4281 oneG1520 streetG4505, and immediatelyG2112 the angelG32 departedG868 from him. 11When PeterG4074 18cameG1096 19to himselfG1438, he saidG3004, “NowG3568 I knowG3609 for sureG230 that 20the LordG2962 has sentG1821 forthG1821 His angelG32 and rescuedG1807 me from the handG5495 of HerodG2264 and from allG3956 21that the JewishG2453 peopleG2992 were expectingG4329.” 12And when he realizedG4894 this, he wentG2064 to the houseG3614 of MaryG3137, the motherG3384 of 22JohnG2491 who was also calledG1941 MarkG3138, whereG3757 manyG2425 were gatheredG4867 togetherG4867 and 23were prayingG4336. 13When he knockedG2925 at the doorG2374 of the gateG4440, 24a servant-girlG3814 namedG3686 RhodaG4498 cameG4334 to answerG5219. 14When she recognizedG1921 Peter’sG4074 voiceG5456, 25becauseG575 of her joyG5479 she did not openG455 the gateG4440, but ranG1532 in and announcedG518 that PeterG4074 was standingG2476 in frontG4253 of the gateG4440. 15They saidG3004 to her, “You are out of your mindG3105!” But she kept insistingG1340 that it was soG3779. They kept sayingG3004, “It is 26his angelG32.” 16But PeterG4074 continuedG1961 knockingG2925; and when they had openedG455 the door, they sawG3708 him and were amazedG1839. 17But 27motioningG2678 to them with his handG5495 to be silentG4601, he describedG1334 to them howG4459 the LordG2962 had ledG1806 him out of the prisonG5438. And he saidG3004, “ReportG518 theseG3778 thingsG3778 to 2829JamesG2385 and 30the brethrenG80.” ThenG2532 he leftG1831 and wentG4198 to anotherG2087 placeG5117.

18NowG1161 when dayG2250 cameG1096, there was noG3756 smallG3641 disturbanceG5017 amongG1722 the soldiersG4757 as to 31whatG5101 could have becomeG1096 of PeterG4074. 19When HerodG2264 had searchedG1934 for him and had not foundG2147 him, he examinedG350 the guardsG5441 and orderedG2753 that they 32be ledG520 awayG520 to execution. ThenG1161 he wentG2718 downG2718 from JudeaG2453 to 33CaesareaG2542 and was spendingG1304 timeG1304 there.

Death of Herod

20NowG1161 he was veryG2371 angryG2371 with the people of 34TyreG5183 and SidonG4606; and with oneG3661 accordG3661 they cameG3918 to him, and having wonG3982 overG3982 BlastusG986 the king’sG935 chamberlainG1909G2846, they were askingG154 for peaceG1515, becauseG1223 35their countryG5561 was fedG5142 by the king’sG937 country. 21On an appointedG5002 dayG2250 HerodG2264, having putG1746 on his royalG937 apparelG2066, tookG2523 his seatG2523 on the 36rostrumG968 and began deliveringG1215 an addressG1215 to them. 22The peopleG1218 kept cryingG2019 out, “The voiceG5456 of a godG2316 and not of a manG444!” 23And immediatelyG3916 37an angelG32 of the LordG2962 struckG3960 him becauseG473G3739 he did not giveG1325 GodG2316 the gloryG1391, and he was eatenG4662 by wormsG4662 and 38diedG1634.

24But 39the wordG3056 of the LordG2962 continued to growG837 and to be multipliedG4129.

25And 40BarnabasG921 and 41SaulG4569 returnedG5290 42from JerusalemG2419 43when they had fulfilledG4137 their 44missionG1248, takingG4838 alongG4838 with them 45JohnG2491, who was also calledG1941 MarkG3138.
