Paul in Corinth

1AfterG3326 theseG3778 events Paul leftG5563 1AthensG116 and wentG2064 to 2CorinthG2882. 2And he foundG2147 a JewG2453 namedG3686 3AquilaG207, a nativeG1085 of 4PontusG4193 having recentlyG4373 comeG2064 from 5ItalyG2482 with his wifeG1135 6PriscillaG4251, becauseG1223 7ClaudiusG2804 had commandedG1299 allG3956 the JewsG2453 to leaveG5563 RomeG4516. He cameG4334 to them, 3and becauseG1223 he was of the sameG3673 tradeG3673 he stayedG3306 with them, and 8they workedG2038 together, for they were tent-makersG4635 by tradeG5078. 4And Paul was reasoningG1256 9in the synagogueG4864 everyG3956 10SabbathG4521 and trying to persuadeG3982 11JewsG2453 and GreeksG1672.

5But whenG5613 12SilasG4609 and TimothyG5095 13cameG2718 downG2718 from 14MacedoniaG3109, PaulG3972 began devotingG4912 himself completelyG4912 to the wordG3056, 15testifyingG1263 to the JewsG2453 that 16JesusG2424 was the 17ChristG5547. 6But when they resistedG498 and blasphemedG987, he 18shookG1621 outG1621 his garmentsG2440 and saidG3004 to them, “Your 19bloodG129 is 20on your own headsG2776! I am cleanG2513. From nowG3568 on I will goG4198 21to the GentilesG1484.” 7ThenG2532 he leftG3327 22the synagogue and wentG2064 to the houseG3614 of a manG5100 namedG3686 23TitiusG5102 JustusG2459, 24a worshiperG4576 of GodG2316, whoseG3739 houseG3614 was nextG4927 doorG4927 to the synagogueG4864. 825CrispusG2921, 26the leaderG752 ofG752 theG752 synagogueG752, believedG4100 in the LordG2962 27togetherG4862 withG4862 his entireG3650 householdG3624; and manyG4183 of the 28CorinthiansG2881, as they listenedG191 to Paul, were believingG4100 and being baptizedG907. 9And the LordG2962 saidG3004 to PaulG3972 by 29a visionG3705 at nightG3571, “Do not beG5399 afraidG5399 any longer, but go on speakingG2980 and do not be silentG4623; 10for I amG1510 with you, and noG3762 oneG3762 will attackG2007 you to harmG2559 you, for I have manyG4183 peopleG2992 in thisG3778 cityG4172.” 11And he settledG2523 there for a yearG1763 and sixG1803 monthsG3376, teachingG1321 the wordG3056 of GodG2316 amongG1722 them.

12But while GallioG1058 was 30proconsulG446 of 31AchaiaG882, 32the JewsG2453 roseG2721 upG2721 togetherG3661 againstG2721 PaulG3972 and broughtG71 him beforeG1909 33the 34judgmentG968 seatG968, 13sayingG3004, “ThisG3778 manG3778 is incitingG374 the peopleG444 to worshipG4576 GodG2316 contraryG3844 to 35the 36lawG3551.” 14But when PaulG3972 wasG3195 aboutG3195 toG3195 37openG455 his mouthG4750, GallioG1058 saidG3004 to the JewsG2453, “IfG1487 it were a matter of someG5100 crimeG92 orG2228 viciousG4190, unscrupulousG4467 actG4467, OG5599 JewsG2453, it would be reasonableG3056 for me to putG430 upG430 with you; 15but ifG1487 there are 3839questionsG2213 aboutG4012 40teachingG3056 and 41personsG3686 and your own lawG3551, seeG3708 toG3708 it yourselvesG846; I amG1014 unwillingG3756G1014 to be a judgeG2923 of theseG3778 matters.” 16And he droveG556 them awayG556 from 42the 43judgmentG968 seatG968. 17But they allG3956 tookG1949 holdG1949 of 44SosthenesG4988, 45the leaderG752 ofG752 theG752 synagogueG752, and began beatingG5180 him in frontG1715 of 46the judgmentG968 seatG968. And yet GallioG1058 was not concernedG3199 aboutG3199 anyG3762 of theseG3778 thingsG3778.

18Now PaulG3972, when he had remainedG4357 manyG2425 daysG2250 longerG2089, 47tookG657 leaveG657 of 48the brothersG80 and sisters and sailedG1602 awayG1602 to 49SyriaG4947, and 50PriscillaG4251 and 51AquilaG207 were with him. 52Paul first 53had his hairG2776 cutG2751 at 54CenchreaG2747, for he was keepingG2192 a vowG2171. 19They cameG2658 to 55EphesusG2181, and he leftG2641 them thereG847. NowG1161 he himselfG846 enteredG1525 56the synagogueG4864 and reasonedG1256 with the JewsG2453. 20When they askedG2065 him to stayG3306 for a longerG4183 timeG5550, he did not consentG1962, 21but 57tookG657 leaveG657 of them and saidG3004, “I will returnG344 to you againG3825 58if GodG2316 willsG2309,” and he setG321 sailG321 from 59EphesusG2181.

22When he had landedG2718 in 60CaesareaG2542, he wentG305 upG305 to Jerusalem and greetedG782 the churchG1577, and wentG2597 downG2597 to 61AntiochG490.

Third Missionary Journey

23And after spendingG4160 someG5100 timeG5550 there, he leftG1831 and passedG1330 successivelyG2517 throughG1330 the 62GalatianG1054 regionG5561 and PhrygiaG5435, strengtheningG4741 allG3956 the disciplesG3101.

24NowG1161 a JewG2453 namedG3686 63ApollosG625, an 64AlexandrianG221 by birthG1085, 65an eloquentG3052 manG435, cameG2658 to 66EphesusG2181; and he was proficientG1415 in the ScripturesG1124. 25ThisG3778 manG3778 had beenG1510 instructedG2727 in 67the wayG3598 of the LordG2962; and beingG2204 ferventG2204 in spiritG4151, he was accuratelyG199 speakingG2980 and teachingG1321 things aboutG4012 JesusG2424, beingG1987 acquaintedG1987 onlyG3440 with 68the baptismG908 of JohnG2491; 26and 69he beganG757 speakingG3955 boldlyG3955 in the synagogueG4864. But when 70PriscillaG4251 and AquilaG207 heardG191 him, they tookG4355 him asideG4355 and explainedG1620 71the wayG3598 of GodG2316 moreG199 accuratelyG199 to him. 27And when he wantedG1014 to goG1330 acrossG1330 to 72AchaiaG882, 73the brothersG80 encouragedG4389 him and wroteG1125 to 74the disciplesG3101 to welcomeG588 him; and when he had arrivedG3854, he greatlyG4183 75helpedG4820 thoseG3588 who had believedG4100 throughG1223 graceG5485, 28for he powerfullyG2159 refutedG1246 the JewsG2453 in publicG1219, demonstratingG1925 76by the ScripturesG1124 that 77JesusG2424 was the 78ChristG5547.
