Genesis 40
Darby Bible
1And it came to pass after these thingsH1697, [that] the cup-bearer of the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 and the bakerH644 offended their lordH113 the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714. 2And PharaohH6547 was wroth with his twoH8147 chamberlains — with the chiefH8269 of the cup-bearers and with the chiefH8269 of the bakersH644; 3and he putH5414 them in custodyH4929 into the houseH1004 of the captain of the life-guard, into the tower-house, into the placeH4725 whereH834 JosephH3130 was imprisonedH631. 4And the captain of the life-guard appointedH6485 JosephH3130 to them, that he should attend on them. And they wereH1961 [several] daysH3117 in custodyH4929. 5And they dreamedH2492 a dreamH2472, both of them in oneH259 nightH3915, each his dreamH2472, each according to the interpretationH6623 of his dreamH2472, the cup-bearer and the bakerH644 of the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, who were imprisonedH631 in the tower-house. 6And JosephH3130 cameH935 in to them in the morningH1242, and lookedH7200 on them, and behold, they were sad. 7And he askedH7592 Pharaoh's chamberlains that were with him in custodyH4929 in his lord's houseH1004, sayingH559, WhyH4069 are your facesH6440 [so] sad to-day? 8And they saidH559 to him, We have dreamt a dreamH2472, and there is no interpreter of it. And JosephH3130 saidH559 to them, [Do] not interpretationsH6623 [belong] to 1GodH430? tell me [your dreamsH2472], I pray you. 9Then the chiefH8269 of the cup-bearers told his dreamH2472 to JosephH3130, and saidH559 to him, In my dreamH2472, behold, a vineH1612 was before me; 10and in the vineH1612 were threeH7969 branchesH8299; and it was as though it buddedH6524: its blossoms shot forth, its clustersH811 ripened into grapes. 11And Pharaoh's cupH3563 was in my handH3027; and I tookH3947 the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cupH3563, and gaveH5414 the cupH3563 into Pharaoh's handH3027. 12And JosephH3130 saidH559 to him, This is the interpretationH6623 of it: the threeH7969 branchesH8299 are threeH7969 daysH3117. 13In yetH5750 threeH7969 daysH3117 will PharaohH6547 liftH5375 up thy headH7218 and restoreH7725 thee to thy place, and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cupH3563 into his handH3027, after the formerH7223 manner when thou wast his cup-bearer. 14Only bear a remembranceH2142 with thee of me when it goesH3318 wellH3190 with thee, and deal kindly, I pray thee, with me, and makeH6213 mention of me to PharaohH6547, and bringH3318 me out of this houseH1004; 15for indeed I was stolenH1589 out of the landH776 of the HebrewsH5680, and hereH6311 alsoH1571 have I done nothing that they should putH7760 me into the dungeon. 16And when the chiefH7218 of the bakersH644 sawH7200 that the interpretation was goodH2896, he saidH559 to JosephH3130, I alsoH637 was in my dreamH2472, and behold, threeH7969 basketsH5536 of white bread were on my headH7218. 17And in the uppermost basketH5536 there were all manner of victuals for PharaohH6547 that the bakerH644 makes, and the birdsH5775 ateH398 them out of the basketH5536 upon my headH7218. 18And JosephH3130 answered and saidH559, This is the interpretationH6623 of it: the threeH7969 basketsH5536 are threeH7969 daysH3117. 19In yetH5750 threeH7969 daysH3117 will PharaohH6547 liftH5375 up thy headH7218 from off thee, and hangH8518 thee on a treeH6086; and the birdsH5775 will eatH398 thy fleshH1320 from off thee. 20And it came to pass the thirdH7992 dayH3117 — Pharaoh's birthday — that he madeH6213 a feastH4960 to all his bondmen. And he liftedH5375 up the headH7218 of the chiefH7218 of the cup-bearers, and the headH7218 of the chiefH7218 of the bakersH644 among his bondmen. 21And he restoredH7725 the chiefH8269 of the cup-bearers to his office of cup-bearer again; and he gaveH5414 the cupH3563 into Pharaoh's handH3709. 22And he hangedH8518 the chiefH8269 of the bakersH644, as JosephH3130 had interpretedH6622 to them. 23But the chiefH8269 of the cup-bearers did not rememberH2142 JosephH3130, and forgotH7911 him.
