Genesis 39

Darby Bible

1And JosephH3130 was broughtH3381 downH3381 to EgyptH4714; and PotipharH6318, a chamberlain of PharaohH6547, the captain of the life-guard, an EgyptianH4713, boughtH7069 him of the handH3027 of the IshmaelitesH3459 who had broughtH3381 him downH3381 thither. 2And Jehovah wasH1961 with JosephH3130, and he wasH1961 a prosperous manH376; and he wasH1961 in the houseH1004 of his masterH113 the EgyptianH4713. 3And his masterH113 sawH7200 that Jehovah was with him, and that Jehovah madeH6213 all that he did to prosperH6743 in his handH3027. 4And JosephH3130 foundH4672 favour in his eyesH5869, and attended on him; and he setH5414 him over his houseH1004, and all that he had he gaveH5414 into his handH3027. 5And it came to pass from the time he had set him over his houseH1004 and all that he had, that Jehovah blessedH1288 the Egyptian's houseH1004 for Joseph's sake; and the blessingH1293 of Jehovah wasH1961 on all that he had in the houseH1004 and in the fieldH7704. 6And he leftH5800 all that he had in Joseph's handH3027, and took cognizance of nothing with him, save the breadH3899 that he ateH398. And JosephH3130 wasH1961 of a beautifulH3303 formH8389 and of a beautifulH3303 countenance. 7And it came to pass after these thingsH1697, that his master's wifeH802 cast her eyesH5869 on JosephH3130, and saidH559, LieH7901 with me! 8But he refusedH3985, and saidH559 to his master's wifeH802, Behold, my masterH113 takes cognizance of nothing with me: what is in the houseH1004, and all that he has, he has givenH5414 into my handH3027. 9There is none greaterH1419 in this houseH1004 than I; neither has he withheld anythingH3972 from me but thee, because thou art his wifeH802; and howH349 should I do this greatH1419 wickednessH7451, and sinH2398 against 1GodH430? 10And it came to pass as she spokeH1696 to JosephH3130 dayH3117 by dayH3117 and he hearkened not to her, to lieH7901 with her [and] to beH1961 with her, 11that on a certain dayH3117 he wentH935 into the houseH1004 to do his businessH4399, and there was none of the menH376 of the houseH1004 there in the houseH1004. 12Then she caught him by his garmentH899, sayingH559, LieH7901 with me! But he left his garmentH899 in her handH3027, and fledH5127 and ran out. 13And it came to pass, when she sawH7200 that he had leftH5800 his garmentH899 in her handH3027 and had fledH5127 forth, 14that she calledH7121 to the menH376 of her houseH1004, and spoke to them, sayingH559, SeeH7200, he has broughtH935 in a HebrewH5680 manH376 to us, to mock us: he cameH935 in to me, to lieH7901 with me; and I cried with a loud voiceH6963; 15and it came to pass when he heardH8085 that I liftedH7311 up my voiceH6963 and cried, that he left his garmentH899 with me, and fledH5127 and wentH3318 out. 16And she laid his garmentH899 by her until his lordH113 cameH935 home. 17And she spokeH1696 to him according to these wordsH1697, sayingH559, The HebrewH5680 bondman that thou hast broughtH935 to us cameH935 in to me to mock me; 18and it came to pass as I liftedH7311 up my voiceH6963 and cried, that he leftH5800 his garmentH899 with me, and fledH5127 forth. 19And it came to pass when his lordH113 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of his wifeH802 which she spokeH1696 to him, sayingH559, After this mannerH1697 did thy bondman to me, that his wrath wasH1961 kindled. 20And Joseph's lordH113 tookH3947 him and putH5414 him into the tower-house, [the] placeH4725 whereH834 the king's prisonersH631 were confined; and he wasH1961 there in the tower-house. 21And Jehovah wasH1961 with JosephH3130, and extendedH5186 mercy to him, and gaveH5414 him favour in the eyesH5869 of the chiefH8269 of the tower-house. 22And the chiefH8269 of the tower-house committed to Joseph's handH3027 all the prisonersH615 that were in the tower-house; and whatever they had to do there he did. 23The chiefH8269 of the tower-house lookedH7200 not to anything under his handH3027, because Jehovah was with him; and what he did, Jehovah madeH6213 it prosperH6743.
