Genesis 26
Darby Bible
1And there wasH1961 a famineH7458 in the landH776, besides the formerH7223 famineH7458 which had beenH1961 in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85. And IsaacH3327 went to AbimelechH40 the kingH4428 of the PhilistinesH6430, to GerarH1642. 2And Jehovah appearedH7200 to him and saidH559, GoH3381 not downH3381 to EgyptH4714: dwellH7931 in the landH776 that I shall tell thee of. 3Sojourn in this landH776; and I will beH1961 with thee and blessH1288 thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seedH2233, I will giveH5414 all these countries; and I will perform the oathH7621 which I sworeH7650 unto AbrahamH85 thy fatherH1. 4And I will multiplyH7235 thy seedH2233 as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064, and unto thy seedH2233 will I giveH5414 all these countries; and in thy seedH2233 shall all the nationsH1471 of the earthH776 blessH1288 themselves — 5because that AbrahamH85 hearkened to my voiceH6963, and keptH8104 my chargeH4931, my commandmentsH4687, my statutesH2708, and my lawsH8451. 6And IsaacH3327 dweltH3427 at GerarH1642. 7And the menH376 of the placeH4725 askedH7592 about his wifeH802. And he saidH559, She is my sisterH269; for he fearedH3372 to sayH559, my wifeH802, [sayingH559 to himself,] LestH6435 the menH376 of the placeH4725 slayH2026 me on account of Rebecca — because she was fair in countenance. 8And it came to pass when he had beenH1961 there some time, that AbimelechH40 the kingH4428 of the PhilistinesH6430 lookedH7200 out of the windowH2474, and sawH7200, and behold, IsaacH3327 wasH1961 dallying with Rebecca his wifeH802. 9Then AbimelechH40 calledH7121 IsaacH3327, and saidH559, Behold, she is certainly thy wifeH802; and howH349 saidst thou, She is my sisterH269? and IsaacH3327 saidH559 to him, Because I saidH559, LestH6435 I dieH4191 on account of her. 10And AbimelechH40 saidH559, What is this thou hast done to us? But a littleH4592 and oneH259 of the peopleH5971 might have lainH7901 with thy wifeH802, and thou wouldest have broughtH935 a trespass on us. 11And AbimelechH40 charged all the peopleH5971, sayingH559, He that touchesH5060 this manH376 or his wifeH802 shall certainlyH4191 be putH4191 to deathH4191. 12And IsaacH3327 sowedH2232 in that landH776, and received in the same yearH8141 a hundredfold; and Jehovah blessedH1288 him. 13And the manH376 becameH1431 greatH1431, and he becameH1431 continually greaterH1431, until he was veryH3966 greatH1431. 14And he had possessions of flocksH6629, and possessions of herdsH1241, and a greatH7227 number of servants; and the PhilistinesH6430 envied him. 15And all the wellsH875 that his father's servantsH5650 had dugH2658 in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85 his fatherH1, the PhilistinesH6430 stoppedH5640 them and filledH4390 them with earthH6083. 16And AbimelechH40 saidH559 to IsaacH3327, Go from us; for thou art become much mightier than we. 17And IsaacH3327 departed thence, and pitched his campH2583 in the valley of GerarH1642, and dweltH3427 there. 18And IsaacH3327 dugH2658 again the wellsH875 of waterH4325 that they had dugH2658 in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85 his fatherH1, and that the PhilistinesH6430 had stoppedH5640 after the deathH4194 of AbrahamH85; and he calledH7121 their namesH8034 after the namesH8034 by which his fatherH1 had calledH7121 them. 19And Isaac's servantsH5650 dug in the valley, and foundH4672 there a wellH875 of springing waterH4325. 20But the shepherds of GerarH1642 strove with Isaac's shepherds, sayingH559, The waterH4325 is ours. And he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of the wellH875 Esek, because they had quarrelled with him. 21And they dug another wellH875, and they strove for that alsoH1571; and he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it Sitnah. 22And he removed thence and dugH2658 another wellH875; and they did not strive for that. And he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it RehobothH7344, and saidH559, For nowH6258 Jehovah has madeH7337 room for us, and we shall be fruitfulH6509 in the landH776. 23And he wentH5927 up thence to Beer-sheba. 24And Jehovah appearedH7200 to him the same nightH3915, and saidH559, I am the 1GodH430 of AbrahamH85 thy fatherH1: fearH3372 not, for I am with thee, and will blessH1288 thee, and multiplyH7235 thy seedH2233 for my servantH5650 Abraham's sakeH5668. 25And he builtH1129 an altarH4196 there, and calledH7121 upon the nameH8034 of Jehovah. And he pitchedH5186 his tentH168 there; and there Isaac's servantsH5650 dugH3738 a wellH875. 26And AbimelechH40, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phichol the captain of his hostH6635, wentH1980 to him from GerarH1642. 27And IsaacH3327 saidH559 to them, WhyH4069 are ye comeH935 to me, seeing ye hateH8130 me, and have driven me awayH7971 from you? 28And they saidH559, We sawH7200 certainly that Jehovah is with thee; and we saidH559, Let there beH1961 then an oathH423 between us — between us and thee, and let us makeH3772 a covenantH1285 with thee, 29that thou wilt do us no wrong, as we have not touchedH5060 thee, and as we have done to thee nothing but goodH2896, and have let thee goH7971 in peaceH7965; thou art nowH6258 blessedH1288 of Jehovah. 30And he madeH6213 them a feastH4960, and they ateH398 and drankH8354. 31And they roseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and sworeH7650 oneH376 to another; and IsaacH3327 sentH7971 them awayH7971, and they departed from him in peaceH7965. 32And it cameH935 to pass the same dayH3117, that Isaac's servantsH5650 cameH935, and toldH5046 him concerning the wellH875 that they had dugH2658, and saidH559 to him, We have foundH4672 waterH4325. 33And he calledH7121 it Shebah; thereforeH3651 the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 is Beer-sheba to this dayH3117. 34And EsauH6215 wasH1961 fortyH705 yearsH8141 old, when he tookH3947 as wivesH802 Judith the daughterH1323 of BeeriH882 the HittiteH2850, and Basmath the daughterH1323 of ElonH356 the HittiteH2850. 35And they wereH1961 a grief of mind to IsaacH3327 and to Rebecca.
