Genesis 23

Darby Bible

1And the lifeH2416 of SarahH8283 wasH1961 a hundredH3967 and twenty-seven yearsH8141: [these wereH1961] the yearsH8141 of the lifeH2416 of SarahH8283. 2And SarahH8283 diedH4191 in Kirjath-Arba: that is HebronH2275, in the landH776 of CanaanH3667. And AbrahamH85 cameH935 to mournH5594 for SarahH8283, and to weepH1058 for her. 3And AbrahamH85 roseH6965 up from before his deadH4191, and spokeH1696 to the sonsH1121 of HethH2845, sayingH559, 4I am a stranger and a sojourner with you; giveH5414 me a possessionH272 of a sepulchre with you, that I may buryH6912 my deadH4191 from before me. 5And the sonsH1121 of HethH2845 answered AbrahamH85, sayingH559 to him, 6HearH8085 us, my lordH113: thou art a princeH5387 of 1GodH430 among us: in the choicest of our sepulchres buryH6912 thy deadH4191: none of us shall withholdH3607 from thee his sepulchre for buryingH6912 thy deadH4191. 7And AbrahamH85 roseH6965 up, and bowedH7812 downH7812 to the peopleH5971 of the landH776, to the sonsH1121 of HethH2845, 8and spokeH1696 to them, sayingH559, If it be your will that I should buryH6912 my deadH4191 from before me, hearH8085 me, and entreatH6293 for me EphronH6085 the sonH1121 of ZoharH6714, 9that he may giveH5414 me the caveH4631 of MachpelahH4375, which is his, which is at the endH7097 of his fieldH7704; for the fullH4392 moneyH3701 let him giveH5414 it to me amongst you for a possessionH272 of a sepulchre. 10And EphronH6085 was dwellingH3427 among the sonsH1121 of HethH2845. And EphronH6085 the HittiteH2850 answered AbrahamH85, in the earsH241 of the sonsH1121 of HethH2845, [even] of all that wentH935 in at the gateH8179 of his cityH5892, sayingH559, 11No, my lordH113: hearH8085 me. The fieldH7704 giveH5414 I thee; and the caveH4631 that is in it, to thee I giveH5414 it; before the eyesH5869 of the sonsH1121 of my peopleH5971 giveH5414 I it thee: buryH6912 thy deadH4191. 12And AbrahamH85 bowedH7812 downH7812 before the peopleH5971 of the landH776; 13and he spokeH1696 to EphronH6085, in the earsH241 of the peopleH5971 of the landH776, sayingH559, But if onlyH389 thou wouldst listenH8085 to me, I giveH5414 the moneyH3701 for the fieldH7704: takeH3947 [it] of me, and I will buryH6912 my deadH4191 there. 14And EphronH6085 answered AbrahamH85, sayingH559 to him, 15My lordH113, hearken to me. A field of fourH702 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701, what is that between me and thee? buryH6912 therefore thy deadH4191. 16And AbrahamH85 hearkened to EphronH6085; and AbrahamH85 weighedH8254 to EphronH6085 the moneyH3701 that he had named in the earsH241 of the sonsH1121 of HethH2845 — fourH702 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701, current with the merchant. 17So the fieldH7704 of EphronH6085, which was at MachpelahH4375, which was before MamreH4471, the fieldH7704, and the caveH4631 that was in it, and all the treesH6086 that were in the fieldH7704, that were in all its bordersH1366 roundH5439 about, 18were assured to AbrahamH85 for a possession before the eyesH5869 of the sonsH1121 of HethH2845, before all who wentH935 in at the gateH8179 of his cityH5892. 19And after this, AbrahamH85 buriedH6912 SarahH8283 his wifeH802 in the caveH4631 of the fieldH7704 at MachpelahH4375, opposite to MamreH4471: that is HebronH2275, in the landH776 of CanaanH3667. 20And the fieldH7704 and the caveH4631 that was in it were assured to AbrahamH85 for a possessionH272 of a sepulchre by the sonsH1121 of HethH2845.
