Genesis 48

Darby Bible

1And it came to pass after these thingsH1697, that one told JosephH3130, Behold, thy fatherH1 is sickH2470. And he tookH3947 with him his twoH8147 sonsH1121 ManassehH4519 and EphraimH669. 2And one toldH5046 JacobH3290 and saidH559, Behold, thy sonH1121 JosephH3130 is comingH935 to thee. And IsraelH3478 strengthenedH2388 himself, and satH3427 upon the bedH4296. 3And JacobH3290 saidH559 to JosephH3130, The AlmightyH7706 1GodH410 appearedH7200 to me at LuzH3870 in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and blessedH1288 me, 4and he saidH559 to me, Behold, I will makeH5414 thee fruitfulH6509 and multiplyH7235 thee, and I will makeH5414 of thee a companyH6951 of peoplesH5971; and will giveH5414 this landH776 to thy seedH2233 after thee [for] an everlasting possessionH272. 5And nowH6258 thy twoH8147 sonsH1121, who wereH1961 bornH3205 to thee in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 before I cameH935 to thee into EgyptH4714, shall beH1961 mine: EphraimH669 and ManassehH4519 shall beH1961 mine, as ReubenH7205 and SimeonH8095. 6And thy family which thou hast begotten after them shall beH1961 thine: they shall beH1961 calledH7121 after the nameH8034 of their brethren in their inheritanceH5159. 7And as for me, when I cameH935 from Padan, RachelH7354 diedH4191 by me in the landH776 of CanaanH3667 on the wayH1870, when there was yetH5750 a certain distance to comeH935 to EphrathH672; and I buriedH6912 her there on the wayH1870 to EphrathH672, that is, Bethlehem. 8And IsraelH3478 beheld Joseph's sonsH1121, and saidH559, Who are these? 9And JosephH3130 saidH559 to his fatherH1, They are my sonsH1121, whom 2GodH430 has givenH5414 me hereH2088. And he saidH559, Bring them, I pray thee, to me, that I may blessH1288 them. 10But the eyesH5869 of IsraelH3478 were heavyH3513 from age: he could not seeH7200. And he broughtH5066 them nearer to him; and he kissedH5401 them, and embracedH2263 them. 11And IsraelH3478 saidH559 to JosephH3130, I had not thought to seeH7200 thy faceH6440; and behold, 3GodH430 has let me seeH7200 alsoH1571 thy seedH2233. 12And JosephH3130 broughtH3318 them out from his knees, and bowedH7812 downH7812 with his faceH639 to the earthH776. 13And JosephH3130 tookH3947 them both, EphraimH669 in his rightH3225 handH3225 toward Israel's left handH3225, and ManassehH4519 in his left handH3225 toward Israel's rightH3225 handH3225, and brought [them] near to him. 14But IsraelH3478 stretchedH7971 out his rightH3225 handH3027, and laid [it] on Ephraim's headH7218 — now he was the youngerH6810 — and his left handH3027 on Manasseh's headH7218; guiding his handsH3027 intelligently, for ManassehH4519 was the firstbornH1060. 15And he blessedH1288 JosephH3130, and saidH559, The 4GodH430 before whom my fathersH1 AbrahamH85 and IsaacH3327 walkedH1980, the 5GodH430 that shepherded me all my life long to this dayH3117, 16the AngelH4397 that redeemedH1350 me from all evilH7451, blessH1288 the ladsH5288; and let my nameH8034 be namedH8034 upon them, and the nameH8034 of my fathersH1 AbrahamH85 and IsaacH3327; and let them grow into a multitudeH7230 in the midstH7130 of the landH776! 17When JosephH3130 sawH7200 that his fatherH1 laid his rightH3225 handH3027 on the headH7218 of EphraimH669, it was evilH7489 in his eyesH5869; and he took holdH8551 of his father's handH3027 to removeH5493 it from Ephraim's headH7218 to Manasseh's headH7218. 18And JosephH3130 saidH559 to his fatherH1, Not soH3651, my fatherH1, for this is the firstbornH1060: putH7760 thy rightH3225 handH3225 on his headH7218. 19But his fatherH1 refusedH3985 and saidH559, I knowH3045, my sonH1121, I knowH3045: he alsoH1571 will becomeH1961 a peopleH5971, and he alsoH1571 will beH1961 greatH1431; but truly his youngerH6996 brotherH251 will beH1961 greaterH1431 than he; and his seedH2233 will becomeH1961 the fulness of nationsH1471. 20And he blessedH1288 them that dayH3117, sayingH559, In thee will IsraelH3478 blessH1288, sayingH559, 6GodH430 makeH7760 thee as EphraimH669 and ManassehH4519! And he setH7760 EphraimH669 before ManassehH4519. 21And IsraelH3478 saidH559 to JosephH3130, Behold, I dieH4191; and 7GodH430 will beH1961 with you, and bringH7725 you again to the landH776 of your fathersH1. 22And I have givenH5414 to thee oneH259 tract [of land] above thy brethren, which I tookH3947 out of the handH3027 of the AmoriteH567 with my swordH2719 and with my bowH7198.
