Genesis 40
American Standard Version
1And it came to pass after these thingsH1697, that the butler of the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 and his bakerH644 offended their lordH113 the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714. 2And PharaohH6547 was wroth against his twoH8147 officers, against the chiefH8269 of the butlers, and against the chiefH8269 of the bakersH644. 3And he putH5414 them in ward in the houseH1004 of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the placeH4725 whereH834 JosephH3130 was boundH631. 4And the captain of the guard charged JosephH3130 with them, and he ministered unto them: and they continued a season in ward. 5And they dreamedH2492 a dreamH2472 both of them, each manH376 his dreamH2472, in oneH259 nightH3915, each manH376 according to the interpretationH6623 of his dreamH2472, the butler and the bakerH644 of the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, who were boundH631 in the prison. 6And JosephH3130 cameH935 in unto them in the morningH1242, and sawH7200 them, and, behold, they were sad. 7And he askedH7592 Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in ward in his master’sH113 houseH1004, sayingH559, Wherefore look ye so sad to-day? 8And they saidH559 unto him, We have dreamedH2492 a dreamH2472, and there is none that can interpretH6622 it. And JosephH3130 saidH559 unto them, Do not interpretationsH6623 belong to GodH430? tell it me, I pray you.
9And the chiefH8269 butler told his dreamH2472 to JosephH3130, and saidH559 to him, In my dreamH2472, behold, a vineH1612 was before me; 10and in the vineH1612 were threeH7969 branchesH8299: and it was as though it buddedH6524, and its blossoms shot forth; and the clustersH811 thereof broughtH5927 forth ripe grapes: 11and Pharaoh’s cupH3563 was in my handH3027; and I tookH3947 the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cupH3563, and I gaveH5414 the cupH3563 into Pharaoh’s handH3027. 12And JosephH3130 saidH559 unto him, This is the interpretationH6623 of it: the threeH7969 branchesH8299 are threeH7969 daysH3117; 13within yetH5750 threeH7969 daysH3117 shall PharaohH6547 liftH5375 up thy headH7218, and restoreH7725 thee unto thine office: and thou shalt giveH5414 Pharaoh’s cupH3563 into his handH3027, after the formerH7223 manner when thou wast his butler. 14But have me in thy remembranceH2142 when it shall be wellH3190 with thee, and show kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and makeH6213 mention of me unto PharaohH6547, and bringH3318 me out of this houseH1004: 15for indeed I was stolenH1589 away out of the landH776 of the HebrewsH5680: and hereH6311 alsoH1571 have I done nothing that they should putH7760 me into the dungeon.
16When the chiefH7218 bakerH644 sawH7200 that the interpretation was goodH2896, he saidH559 unto JosephH3130, I alsoH637 was in my dreamH2472, and, behold, threeH7969 basketsH5536 of white bread were on my headH7218: 17and in the uppermost basketH5536 there was of all manner of bakedH644 foodH3978 for PharaohH6547; and the birdsH5775 did eatH398 them out of the basketH5536 upon my headH7218. 18And JosephH3130 answered and saidH559, This is the interpretationH6623 thereof: the threeH7969 basketsH5536 are threeH7969 daysH3117; 19within yetH5750 threeH7969 daysH3117 shall PharaohH6547 liftH5375 up thy headH7218 from off thee, and shall hangH8518 thee on a treeH6086; and the birdsH5775 shall eatH398 thy fleshH1320 from off thee. 20And it came to pass the thirdH7992 dayH3117, which wasH1961 Pharaoh’s birthday, that he madeH6213 a feastH4960 unto all his servantsH5650: and he liftedH5375 up the headH7218 of the chiefH7218 butler and the headH7218 of the chiefH7218 bakerH644 among his servantsH5650. 21And he restoredH7725 the chiefH8269 butler unto his butlership again; and he gaveH5414 the cupH3563 into Pharaoh’s handH3709: 22but he hangedH8518 the chiefH8269 bakerH644: as JosephH3130 had interpretedH6622 to them. 23Yet did not the chiefH8269 butler rememberH2142 JosephH3130, but forgat him.
