Genesis 37
Darby Bible
1And JacobH3290 dweltH3427 in the landH776 where his fatherH1 sojourned — in the landH776 of CanaanH3667. 2These are the generationsH8435 of JacobH3290. JosephH3130, being seventeen yearsH8141 old, fed the flockH6629 with his brethren; and he wasH1961 doing service with the sonsH1121 of BilhahH1090, and with the sonsH1121 of ZilpahH2153, his father's wivesH802. And JosephH3130 broughtH935 to his fatherH1 an evilH7451 reportH1681 of them. 3And IsraelH3478 lovedH157 JosephH3130 more than all his sonsH1121, because he was sonH1121 of his old age; and he madeH6213 him a vest of many colours. 4And his brethren sawH7200 that their fatherH1 lovedH157 him more than all his brethren, and they hatedH8130 him, and could not greet him with friendliness. 5And JosephH3130 dreamedH2492 a dreamH2472, and toldH5046 [it] to his brethren, and they hatedH8130 him yetH5750 the more. 6And he saidH559 to them, HearH8085, I pray you, this dreamH2492, which I have dreamt: 7Behold, we were binding sheavesH485 in the fieldsH7704, and lo, my sheafH485 roseH6965 up, and remained standingH5324; and behold, your sheavesH485 came roundH5437 about and bowedH7812 downH7812 to my sheafH485. 8And his brethren saidH559 to him, Wilt thou indeed be a kingH4427 over us? wilt thou indeed ruleH4910 over us? And they hatedH8130 him yetH5750 the more for his dreamsH2472 and for his wordsH1697. 9And he dreamedH2492 yetH5750 another dreamH2472, and told it to his brethren, and saidH559, Behold, I have dreamt another dreamH2472, and behold, the sunH8121 and the moonH3394 and eleven starsH3556 bowedH7812 downH7812 to me. 10And he told [it] to his fatherH1 and to his brethren. And his fatherH1 rebukedH1605 him, and saidH559 to him, What is this dreamH2472 which thou hast dreamt? Shall we indeed comeH935, I and thy motherH517 and thy brethren, to bowH7812 downH7812 ourselves to thee to the earthH776? 11And his brethren envied him; but his fatherH1 keptH8104 the saying. 12And his brethren went to feedH7462 their father's flockH6629 at ShechemH7927. 13And IsraelH3478 saidH559 to JosephH3130, Do not thy brethren feedH7462 [the flock] at ShechemH7927? Come, that I may sendH7971 thee to them. And he saidH559 to him, HereH2009 am I. 14And he saidH559 to him, GoH935, I pray thee, seeH7200 after the welfareH7965 of thy brethren, and after the welfareH7965 of the flockH6629; and bringH935 me wordH1697 again. And he sentH7971 him out of the vale of HebronH2275; and he cameH935 towards ShechemH7927. 15And a manH376 foundH4672 him, and behold, he was wanderingH8582 in the countryH7704; and the manH376 askedH7592 him, sayingH559, What seekest thou? 16And he saidH559, I am seekingH1245 my brethren: tellH5046 me, I pray thee, whereH375 they feedH7462 [their flocks]. 17And the manH376 saidH559, They have removed from this; for I heardH8085 them sayH559, Let us go to DothanH1886. And JosephH3130 went after his brethren, and foundH4672 them at DothanH1886. 18And when they sawH7200 him from afarH7350, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to putH4191 him to deathH4191. 19And they saidH559 oneH376 to another, Behold, there comesH935 that dreamer! 20And nowH6258 come and let us killH2026 him, and castH7993 him into oneH259 of the pitsH953, and we will sayH559, An evilH7451 beast has devouredH398 him; and we will seeH7200 what becomesH1961 of his dreamsH2472. 21And ReubenH7205 heardH8085 [it], and deliveredH5337 him out of their handH3027, and saidH559, Let us not take his lifeH5315. 22And ReubenH7205 saidH559 to them, ShedH8210 no bloodH1818: castH7993 him into this pitH953 which is in the wildernessH4057; but lay no handH3027 upon him — in order that he might deliverH5337 him out of their handH3027, to bringH7725 him to his fatherH1 again. 23And it cameH935 to pass when JosephH3130 cameH935 to his brethren, that they strippedH6584 JosephH3130 of his vest, the vest of many colours, which he had on; 24and they tookH3947 him and castH7993 him into the pitH953; now the pitH953 was emptyH7386 — there was no waterH4325 in it. 25And they satH3427 downH3381 to eatH398 breadH3899; and they liftedH5375 up their eyesH5869 and lookedH7200, and behold, a caravan of IshmaelitesH3459 cameH935 from GileadH1568; and their camelsH1581 boreH5375 tragacanth, and balsam, and ladanum — goingH1980 to carryH5375 [it] downH3381 to EgyptH4714. 26And JudahH3063 saidH559 to his brethren, What profitH1215 is it that we killH2026 our brotherH251 and secrete his bloodH1818? 27Come and let us sellH4376 him to the IshmaelitesH3459; but let not our handH3027 beH1961 upon him; for he is our brotherH251, our fleshH1320. And his brethren hearkened [to him]. 28And Midianitish menH376, merchants, passedH5674 by; and they drewH4900 and lifted up JosephH3130 out of the pitH953, and soldH4376 JosephH3130 to the IshmaelitesH3459 for twentyH6242 silver-pieces; and they broughtH935 JosephH3130 to EgyptH4714. 29And ReubenH7205 returnedH7725 to the pitH953, and behold, JosephH3130 [was] not in the pitH953; and he rent his garmentsH899, 30and returnedH7725 to his brethren, and saidH559, The childH3206 is not; and I, whereH575 shall I goH935? 31And they tookH3947 Joseph's vest, and slaughteredH7819 a buck of the goatsH5795, and dippedH2881 the vest in the bloodH1818; 32and they sentH7971 the vest of many colours and had it carried to their fatherH1, and saidH559, This have we foundH4672: discern now whether it is thy son's vest or not. 33And he discerned it, and saidH559, [It is] my son's vest! an evilH7451 beast has devouredH398 him: JosephH3130 is without doubt rent in pieces! 34And JacobH3290 rent his clothesH8071, and putH7760 sackclothH8242 on his loinsH4975, and mournedH56 for his sonH1121 manyH7227 daysH3117. 35And all his sonsH1121 and all his daughtersH1323 roseH6965 up to comfortH5162 him, but he refusedH3985 to be comfortedH5162, and saidH559, For I will goH3381 down to my sonH1121 into SheolH7585 mourningH57. Thus his fatherH1 weptH1058 for him. 36And the Midianites soldH4376 him into EgyptH4714, to PotipharH6318, a chamberlain of PharaohH6547, the captain of the life-guard.
