Genesis 40
Revised Version 1895
1And it cameH1961 to passH1961 afterH310 theseH428 things, that the butler of the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 and his bakerH644 offendedH2398 their lordH113 the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714. 2And PharaohH6547 was wroth againstH5921 his twoH8147 officersH8269, againstH5921 the chiefH8269 of the butlers, and againstH5921 the chiefH8269 of the bakersH644. 3And he putH5414 them in ward in the houseH1004 of the captainH8269 of the guardH2876, intoH413 the prisonH1004, the placeH4725 whereH834 JosephH3130 was boundH631. 4And the captainH8269 of the guardH2876 charged JosephH3130 with them, and he ministeredH8334 unto them: and they continuedH1961 a season in ward. 5And they dreamedH2492 a dreamH2472 bothH8147 of them, eachH376 manH376 his dreamH2472, in one nightH3915, eachH376 manH376 accordingH376 to the interpretationH6623 of his dreamH2472, the butler and the bakerH644 of the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, whichH834 were boundH631 in the prisonH1004. 6And JosephH3130 cameH935 in unto them in the morningH1242, and sawH7200 them, and, beholdH2005, they were sad. 7And he askedH7592 Pharaoh’sH6547 officersH5631 that were with him in ward in his master’sH113 houseH1004, sayingH559, Wherefore look ye soH834 sadly to dayH3117? 8And they saidH559 unto him, WeH4994 have dreamedH2492 a dreamH2472, and there is noneH369 that canH369 interpretH6622 it. And JosephH3130 saidH559 unto them, DoH4994 notH3808 interpretationsH6623 belongH430 to GodH430? tellH559 it meH413, I prayH4994 youH3808. 9And the chiefH8269 butler toldH559 his dreamH2472 to JosephH3130, and saidH559 to him, In my dreamH2472, beholdH2009, a vineH1612 was beforeH6440 meH6440; 10and in the vineH1612 were threeH7969 branchesH8299: and it was as thoughH1931 it buddedH6524, and itsH5927 blossoms shot forth; and the clustersH811 thereof broughtH5927 forth ripeH1310 grapesH6025: 11and Pharaoh’sH6547 cupH3563 was in my handH3027; and I tookH3947 the grapesH6025, and pressed them intoH413 Pharaoh’sH6547 cupH3563, and I gaveH5414 the cupH3563 intoH413 Pharaoh’sH6547 handH3027. 12And JosephH3130 saidH559 unto him, This is the interpretationH6623 of it: the threeH7969 branchesH8299 are threeH7969 daysH3117; 13withinH5921 yet threeH7969 daysH3117 shall PharaohH6547 liftH5375 upH5375 thine headH7218, and restoreH7725 thee unto thine office: and thou shalt giveH5414 Pharaoh’sH6547 cupH3563 intoH5921 his handH3027, afterH5921 the formerH7223 mannerH4941 when thou wast his butler. 14But have meH413 in thy remembranceH2142 when it shall be wellH3190 with thee, and shew kindnessH2617, I prayH4994 thee, unto meH413, and makeH6213 mentionH2142 of meH413 unto PharaohH6547, and bringH3318 meH413 outH3318 of this houseH1004: 15for indeedH3588 I was stolenH1589 awayH1589 outH853 of the landH776 of the HebrewsH5680: and hereH6311 also have I doneH6213 nothingH3808 that they should putH7760 meH7760 intoH776 the dungeon. 16When the chiefH7218 bakerH644 sawH7200 that the interpretationH6622 was goodH2896, he saidH559 unto JosephH3130, I also was in my dreamH2472, and, beholdH2009, threeH7969 basketsH5536 of whiteH2751 breadH2751 were on my headH7218: 17and in the uppermost basketH5536 there was of allH3605 manner of bakemeats for PharaohH6547; and the birdsH5775 didH4639 eatH398 them outH4480 of the basketH5536 uponH5921 my headH7218. 18And JosephH3130 answeredH559 and saidH559, This is the interpretationH6623 thereof: the threeH7969 basketsH5536 are threeH7969 daysH3117; 19withinH5921 yet threeH7969 daysH3117 shall PharaohH6547 liftH5375 upH5375 thy headH7218 from offH5921 thee, and shall hangH8518 thee on a treeH6086; and the birdsH5775 shall eatH398 thy fleshH1320 from offH5921 thee. 20And it cameH1961 to passH1961 the thirdH7992 dayH3117, whichH4960 was Pharaoh’sH6547 birthdayH3205, that he madeH6213 a feastH4960 unto allH3605 his servantsH5650: and he liftedH5375 upH5375 the headH7218 of the chiefH7218 butler and the headH7218 of the chiefH7218 bakerH644 among his servantsH5650. 21And he restoredH7725 the chiefH8269 butler unto his butlership againH7725; and he gaveH5414 the cupH3563 intoH5921 Pharaoh’sH6547 handH3709: 22but he hangedH8518 the chiefH8269 bakerH644: as JosephH3130 had interpretedH6622 to them. 23Yet didH3808 notH3808 the chiefH8269 butler rememberH2142 JosephH3130, but forgat him.
