Genesis 12
Darby Bible
1And Jehovah had saidH559 to AbramH87, Go out of thy landH776, and from thy kindredH4138, and from thy father's houseH1004, to the landH776 that I will shew thee. 2And I will makeH6213 of thee a greatH1419 nationH1471, and blessH1288 thee, and makeH6213 thy nameH8034 greatH1419; and thou shalt beH1961 a blessingH1293. 3And I will blessH1288 them that blessH1288 thee, and curseH7043 him that curseth thee; and in thee shall all familiesH4940 of the earthH127 be blessedH1288. 4And AbramH87 departed as Jehovah had saidH1696 to him. And LotH3876 wentH3318 with him. And AbramH87 was seventy-fiveH7657 yearsH8141 old whenH834 he departed out of HaranH2771. 5And AbramH87 tookH3947 SaraiH8297 his wifeH802, and LotH3876 his brother's sonH1121, and all their possessionsH7399 that they had acquired, and the soulsH5315 that they had obtained in HaranH2771, and they wentH3318 out to goH3318 into the landH776 of CanaanH3667; and into the landH776 of CanaanH3667 they cameH935. 6And AbramH87 passedH5674 through the landH776 to the placeH4725 of ShechemH7927, to the oak of MorehH4176. And the CanaaniteH3669 was thenH227 in the landH776. 7And Jehovah appearedH7200 to AbramH87, and saidH559, Unto thy seedH2233 will I giveH5414 this landH776. And there he builtH1129 an altarH4196 to Jehovah who had appearedH7200 to him. 8And he removed thence towards the mountainH2022 on the eastH6924 of Bethel, and pitchedH5186 his tentH168, [having] Bethel toward the westH3220, and Ai toward the eastH6924; and there he builtH1129 an altarH4196 to Jehovah, and calledH7121 on the nameH8034 of Jehovah. 9And AbramH87 moved onward, goingH1980 on still toward the southH5045. 10And there wasH1961 a famineH7458 in the landH776. And AbramH87 wentH3381 downH3381 to EgyptH4714 to sojourn there, for the famineH7458 wasH1961 grievous in the landH776. 11And it cameH935 to pass when he wasH1961 comeH935 near to enter into EgyptH4714, that he saidH559 to SaraiH8297 his wifeH802, Behold now, I knowH3045 that thou art a womanH802 fair to look upon. 12And it will come to pass when the EgyptiansH4713 seeH7200 thee, that they will sayH559, She isH1961 his wifeH802; and they will slayH2026 me, and save thee aliveH2421. 13SayH559, I pray thee, thou art my sisterH269, that it may be wellH3190 with me on thy account, and my soulH5315 may liveH2421 because of thee. 14And it cameH935 to pass when AbramH87 cameH935 into EgyptH4714, that the Egyptians beheld the womanH802 that she wasH1961 veryH3966 fair. 15And the princesH8269 of PharaohH6547 sawH7200 her, and praisedH1984 her to PharaohH6547; and the womanH802 was takenH3947 into Pharaoh's houseH1004. 16And he treated AbramH87 wellH3190 on her account; and he had sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and he-asses, and bondmen, and bondwomen, and she-asses, and camelsH1581. 17And Jehovah plagued PharaohH6547 and his houseH1004 with greatH1419 plaguesH5061 because of SaraiH8297 Abram's wifeH802. 18And PharaohH6547 calledH7121 AbramH87, and saidH559, What is this thou hast done to me? WhyH4100 didst thou not tellH5046 me that she was thy wifeH802? 19WhyH4100 didst thou sayH559, She is my sisterH269, so that I tookH3947 her as my wifeH802. And nowH6258, behold, there is thy wifeH802: takeH3947 [her], and go awayH3947. 20And PharaohH6547 commandedH6680 [his] menH376 concerning him, and they sentH7971 him awayH7971, and his wifeH802, and all that he had.
