Genesis 44
Darby Bible
1And he commandedH6680 him who was over his houseH1004, sayingH559, FillH4390 the men's sacksH572 with foodH400, as much as they can carryH5375; and putH7760 every man's moneyH3701 in the mouthH6310 of his sackH572. 2And putH7760 my cupH1375, the silverH3701 cupH1375, in the mouthH6310 of the sackH572 of the youngestH6996, and his grain-money. And he did according to the wordH1697 of JosephH3130 which he had spokenH1696. 3In the morningH1242, when it was lightH215, the menH376 were sentH7971 awayH7971, they and their asses. 4They were goneH3318 out of the cityH5892, [and] not [yet] farH7368 off, whenH834 JosephH3130 saidH559 to him who was over his houseH1004, Up! follow after the menH376; and whenH834 thou overtakest them, thou shalt sayH559 to them, WhyH4100 have ye rewarded evilH7451 for goodH2896? 5Is not this [it] in which my lordH113 drinksH8354, and in which indeedH5172 he divines? Ye have done evilH7489 [in] what ye have done. 6And he overtookH5381 them, and he spokeH1696 to them these wordsH1697. 7And they saidH559 to him, WhyH4100 does my lordH113 speakH1696 such wordsH1697 as these? FarH2486 be it from thy servantsH5650 to do such a thingH1697! 8Behold, the moneyH3701 that we foundH4672 in our sacks' mouthsH6310 we have broughtH7725 again to thee from the landH776 of CanaanH3667; and howH349 should we stealH1589 out of thy lord's houseH1004 silverH3701 or goldH2091? 9With whomsoever of thy servantsH5650 it is foundH4672, let him dieH4191; and we alsoH1571 will beH1961 my lord's bondmen. 10And he saidH559, NowH6258 alsoH1571 [let] it [beH1961] according to your wordsH1697: let him with whom it is foundH4672 beH1961 my bondman, but ye shall beH1961 blameless. 11And they hasted and laid down every manH376 his sackH572 on the groundH776, and openedH6605 every manH376 his sackH572. 12And he searchedH2664 carefully: he beganH2490 at the eldest, and endedH3615 at the youngestH6996; and the cupH1375 was foundH4672 in Benjamin's sackH572. 13Then they rent their clothesH8071, and loadedH6006 every manH376 his ass, and they returnedH7725 to the cityH5892. 14And JudahH3063 and his brethren cameH935 to Joseph's houseH1004; and he was stillH5750 there; and they fellH5307 downH5307 before him to the groundH776. 15And JosephH3130 saidH559 to them, What deedH4639 is this which ye have done? Did ye not knowH3045 that such a manH376 as I can certainly divine? 16And JudahH3063 saidH559, What shall we sayH559 to my lordH113? what shall we speakH1696, and howH4100 justifyH6663 ourselves? 1GodH430 has foundH4672 out the iniquityH5771 of thy servantsH5650; behold, we are my lord's bondmen, both we, and he in whose handH3027 the cupH1375 has been foundH4672. 17And he saidH559, FarH2486 beH1961 it from me to do so! The manH376 in whose handH3027 the cupH1375 has beenH1961 foundH4672, he shall beH1961 my bondman; but as for you, goH5927 up in peaceH7965 to your fatherH1. 18Then JudahH3063 came near to him, and saidH559, Ah! my lordH113, let thy servantH5650, I pray thee, speakH1696 a wordH1697 in my lord's earsH241, and let not thine angerH639 burnH2734 against thy servantH5650; for thou art even as PharaohH6547. 19My lordH113 askedH7592 his servantsH5650, sayingH559, Have ye a fatherH1, or a brotherH251? 20And we saidH559 to my lordH113, We have an aged fatherH1, and a childH3206 born to him in his oldH2205 ageH2208, [yet] youngH3206; and his brotherH251 is deadH4191, and he aloneH905 is leftH3498 of his motherH517; and his fatherH1 lovesH157 him. 21And thou saidst unto thy servantsH5650, BringH3381 him downH3381 to me, that I may setH7760 mine eyeH5869 on him. 22And we saidH559 to my lordH113, The youthH5288 cannot leaveH5800 his fatherH1: if he should leaveH5800 his fatherH1, [his fatherH1] would dieH4191. 23And thou saidst to thy servantsH5650, Unless your youngestH6996 brotherH251 comeH3381 down with you, ye shall seeH7200 my faceH6440 no more. 24And it came to pass when we came up to thy servantH5650 my fatherH1, we toldH5046 him the wordsH1697 of my lordH113. 25And our fatherH1 saidH559, GoH7725 again, buyH7666 us a littleH4592 foodH400. 26But we saidH559, We cannot goH3381 down: if our youngestH6996 brotherH251 be with us, then will we goH3381 down; for we cannot seeH7200 the man's faceH6440 unless our youngestH6996 brotherH251 is with us. 27And thy servantH5650 my fatherH1 saidH559 to us, Ye knowH3045 that my wifeH802 boreH3205 me twoH8147 [sons]; 28and the oneH259 wentH3318 out from me, and I saidH559, He must certainly have been tornH2963 in pieces; and I have not seenH7200 him [again] hitherto. 29And if ye takeH3947 this oneH2088 alsoH1571 from me, and mischief should befall him, ye will bringH3381 down my grey hairsH7872 with misery to SheolH7585. 30And nowH6258, when I comeH935 to thy servantH5650 my fatherH1, and the ladH5288 is not with us, — seeing that his lifeH5315 is boundH7194 up with his lifeH5315, 31it will come to pass when he seesH7200 that the ladH5288 is not [there], that he will dieH4191; and thy servantsH5650 will bringH3381 down the grey hairsH7872 of thy servantH5650 our fatherH1 with sorrowH3015 to SheolH7585. 32For thy servantH5650 became suretyH6148 for the ladH5288 to my fatherH1, sayingH559, If I bringH935 him not to thee, then I shall be guilty toward my fatherH1 all my daysH3117. 33And nowH6258, let thy servantH5650 stay, I pray thee, instead of the ladH5288 a bondman to my lordH113, and let the ladH5288 goH5927 up with his brethren; 34for howH349 should I goH5927 up to my fatherH1 if the ladH5288 were not with me? — lestH6435 I seeH7200 the evilH7451 that would comeH5927 on my fatherH1.
