Genesis 43

Darby Bible

1And the famineH7458 was grievous in the landH776. 2And it cameH935 to pass, when they had finishedH3615 eatingH398 the grainH7668 which they had broughtH935 from EgyptH4714, that their fatherH1 saidH559 to them, GoH935 again, buyH7666 us a littleH4592 foodH400. 3And JudahH3063 spoke to him, sayingH559, The manH376 did positively testify to us, sayingH559, Ye shall not seeH7200 my faceH6440, unless your brotherH251 be with you. 4If thou wilt sendH7971 our brotherH251 with us, we will goH3381 downH3381 and buyH7666 thee foodH400; 5but if thou do not sendH7971 [him], we will not goH3381 down, for the manH376 saidH559 to us, Ye shall not seeH7200 my faceH6440, unless your brotherH251 be with you. 6And IsraelH3478 saidH559, WhyH4100 did ye deal [so] ill with me [as] to tellH5046 the manH376 whether ye had yetH5750 a brotherH251? 7And they saidH559, The manH376 askedH7592 very closely after us, and after our kindredH4138, sayingH559, Is your fatherH1 yetH5750 aliveH2416? have ye a brotherH251? And we toldH5046 him according to the tenor of these wordsH1697. Could we at all knowH3045 that he would sayH559, BringH3381 your brotherH251 downH3381? 8And JudahH3063 saidH559 to IsraelH3478 his fatherH1, SendH7971 the ladH5288 with me, and we will ariseH6965 and goH7971, that we may liveH2421, and not dieH4191, both we and thou and our littleH2945 onesH2945. 9I will be suretyH6148 for him: of my handH3027 shalt thou requireH1245 him; if I bringH935 him not to thee, and set him before thy faceH6440, then shall I be guilty toward thee for ever. 10For had we not lingered, we should nowH6258 certainly have returnedH7725 already twice. 11And their fatherH1 IsraelH3478 saidH559 to them, If it is thenH645 soH3651, do this: takeH3947 of the best fruits in the landH776 in your vesselsH3627, and carry down the manH376 a giftH4503: a littleH4592 balsam and a littleH4592 honeyH1706, tragacanth and ladanum, pistacia-nuts and almondsH8247. 12And takeH3947 other moneyH3701 in your handH3027, and the moneyH3701 that was returnedH7725 to you in the mouthH6310 of your sacksH572, carry backH7725 in your handH3027: perhapsH194 it is an oversight. 13And takeH3947 your brotherH251, and ariseH6965, goH7725 again to the manH376. 14And the AlmightyH7706 1GodH410 giveH5414 you mercy before the manH376, that he may sendH7971 awayH7971 your otherH312 brotherH251 and BenjaminH1144! And I, if I be bereavedH7921 of children, am bereavedH7921. 15And the menH376 tookH3947 that giftH4503, and tookH3947 doubleH4932 moneyH3701 in their handH3027, and BenjaminH1144, and roseH6965 up, and wentH3381 downH3381 to EgyptH4714, and cameH3381 before JosephH3130. 16And JosephH3130 sawH7200 BenjaminH1144 with them, and saidH559 to the [manH376] who was over his houseH1004, BringH935 the menH376 into the houseH1004, and slaughterH2874 cattle, and make ready; for the menH376 shall eatH398 with me at noonH6672. 17And the manH376 did as JosephH3130 had saidH559; and the manH376 broughtH935 the menH376 into Joseph's houseH1004. 18And the menH376 were afraidH3372 because they were broughtH935 into Joseph's houseH1004, and saidH559, Because of the moneyH3701 that was returnedH7725 to us in our sacksH572 at the beginning are we broughtH935 in, that he may turnH7725 against us, and fallH5307 upon us and takeH3947 us for bondmen, and our asses. 19And they came up to the manH376 that was over Joseph's houseH1004, and they spokeH1696 to him at the doorH6607 of the houseH1004, 20and saidH559, Ah! my lordH113, we cameH3381 indeed downH3381 at the firstH8462 to buyH7666 foodH400. 21And it cameH935 to pass when we cameH935 to the inn, that we openedH6605 our sacksH572, and behold, [every] man's moneyH3701 wasH1961 in the mouthH6310 of his sackH572, our moneyH3701 according to its weightH4948; and we have broughtH935 it again in our handH3027. 22And otherH312 moneyH3701 have we broughtH3381 downH3381 in our handH3027 to buyH7666 foodH400. We do not knowH3045 who putH7760 our moneyH3701 in our sacksH572. 23And he saidH559, PeaceH7965 be to you, fearH3372 not: your 2GodH430, and the 3GodH430 of your fatherH1, has givenH5414 you treasure in your sacksH572; your moneyH3701 cameH935 to me. And he broughtH935 SimeonH8095 out to them. 24And the manH376 broughtH935 the menH376 into Joseph's houseH1004, and gaveH5414 waterH4325, and they washedH7364 their feetH7272; and he gaveH5414 their asses food. 25And they made ready the giftH4503 for Joseph's comingH935 at noonH6672; for they had heardH8085 that they should eatH398 breadH3899 there. 26WhenH834 JosephH3130 cameH935 home, they broughtH935 him the giftH4503 that was in their handH3027, into the houseH1004, and bowedH7812 themselves to him to the earthH776. 27And he askedH7592 them of their welfareH7965, and saidH559, Is your fatherH1 well — the oldH2205 manH2205 of whom ye spoke? Is he yetH5750 aliveH2416? 28And they saidH559, Thy servantH5650 our fatherH1 is well; he is yetH5750 aliveH2416. And they bowedH7812, and made obeisance. 29And he liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 and sawH7200 his brotherH251 BenjaminH1144, his mother's sonH1121, and saidH559, Is this your youngerH6996 brotherH251 of whom ye spoke to me? And he saidH559, 4GodH430 be gracious to thee, my sonH1121! 30And JosephH3130 madeH4116 hasteH4116, for his bowels burned for his brotherH251; and he soughtH1245 [a place] to weepH1058, and he wentH935 into the chamberH2315, and weptH1058 there. 31And he washedH7364 his faceH6440, and cameH3318 out, and controlled himself, and saidH559, SetH7760 on breadH3899. 32And they setH7760 on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the EgyptiansH4713 who ateH398 with him by themselves; because the EgyptiansH4713 might not eatH398 breadH3899 with the HebrewsH5680, for that is an abominationH8441 unto the EgyptiansH4713. 33And they satH3427 before him, the firstbornH1060 according to his birthrightH1062, and the youngestH6810 according to his youth; and the menH376 marvelled oneH376 at another. 34And he had portionsH4864 carriedH5375 to them from before him. And Benjamin's portion was fiveH2568 times greaterH7235 than the portionsH4864 of them all. And they drankH8354, and made merry with him.
