Genesis 16
Darby Bible
1And SaraiH8297 Abram's wifeH802 did not bearH3205 him [childrenH3205]. And she had an EgyptianH4713 maidservantH8198; and her nameH8034 was HagarH1904. 2And SaraiH8297 saidH559 to AbramH87, Behold now, Jehovah has shutH6113 me up, that I do not bearH3205. GoH935 in, I pray thee, to my maidservantH8198: it may be that I shall be builtH1129 up by her. And AbramH87 hearkened to the voiceH6963 of SaraiH8297. 3And SaraiH8297 Abram's wifeH802 tookH3947 HagarH1904, the EgyptianH4713, her maidservantH8198, at the endH7093 of tenH6235 yearsH8141 that AbramH87 had dweltH3427 in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and gaveH5414 her to her husbandH376 AbramH87, as his wifeH802. 4And he wentH935 in to HagarH1904, and she conceivedH2029. And when she sawH7200 that she had conceivedH2029, her mistressH1404 was lightly esteemed in her eyesH5869. 5And SaraiH8297 saidH559 to AbramH87, My wrong be on thee! I have givenH5414 my maidservantH8198 into thy bosomH2436; and now she seesH7200 that she has conceivedH2029, I am lightly esteemed in her eyesH5869. Jehovah judgeH8199 between me and thee! 6And AbramH87 saidH559 to SaraiH8297, Behold, thy maidservantH8198 is in thy handH3027: do to her what is goodH2896 in thine eyesH5869. And SaraiH8297 oppressed her; and she fledH1272 from her faceH6440. 7And the AngelH4397 of Jehovah foundH4672 her by a springH5869 of waterH4325 in the wildernessH4057, by the springH5869 on the wayH1870 to ShurH7793. 8And he saidH559, HagarH1904, Sarai's maidservantH8198, whence comest thou? and whither art thou goingH935? And she saidH559, I am fleeingH1272 from the faceH6440 of my mistressH1404 SaraiH8297. 9And the AngelH4397 of Jehovah saidH559 to her, ReturnH7725 to thy mistressH1404, and submit thyself under her handsH3027. 10And the AngelH4397 of Jehovah saidH559 to her, I will multiplyH7235 thy seedH2233 exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitudeH7230. 11And the AngelH4397 of Jehovah saidH559 to her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bearH3205 a sonH1121, and shalt callH7121 his nameH8034 IshmaelH3458, because Jehovah hath hearkened to thy affliction. 12And he will beH1961 a wild-ass of a manH120, his handH3027 against every manH120, and every man's handH3027 against him; and he shall dwellH7931 before the faceH6440 of all his brethren. 13And she calledH7121 the nameH8034 of Jehovah who spokeH1696 to her, Thou art the 1GodH410 who reveals himself, for she saidH559, AlsoH1571 hereH1988 have I seenH7200 after he has revealed himself. 14ThereforeH3651 the wellH875 was named Beer-lahai-roiH883: behold, it is between KadeshH6946 and BeredH1260. 15And HagarH1904 boreH3205 AbramH87 a sonH1121; and AbramH87 calledH7121 the nameH8034 of his sonH1121 whom HagarH1904 boreH3205, IshmaelH3458. 16And AbramH87 was eighty-sixH8084 yearsH8141 old when HagarH1904 boreH3205 IshmaelH3458 to AbramH87.
