Genesis 31
Darby Bible
1And he heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of Laban's sonsH1121, sayingH559, JacobH3290 has takenH3947 awayH3947 all that was our father's, and of what was our father's he has acquired all this gloryH3519. 2And JacobH3290 sawH7200 the countenance of LabanH3837, and behold, it was not toward him as previously. 3And Jehovah saidH559 to JacobH3290, ReturnH7725 into the landH776 of thy fathersH1, and to thy kindredH4138; and I will beH1961 with thee. 4And JacobH3290 sentH7971 and calledH7121 RachelH7354 and LeahH3812 to the fieldsH7704 to his flockH6629, 5and saidH559 to them, I seeH7200 your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as previously; but the 1GodH430 of my fatherH1 has beenH1961 with me. 6And you knowH3045 that with all my powerH3581 I have servedH5647 your fatherH1. 7And your fatherH1 has mocked me, and has changedH2498 my wagesH4909 tenH6235 times; but 2GodH430 suffered him not to hurt me. 8If he saidH559 thusH3541; The speckled shall beH1961 thy hireH7939, then all the flocksH6629 boreH3205 speckled; and if he saidH559 thusH3541: The ringstraked shall beH1961 thy hireH7939, then all the flocksH6629 boreH3205 ringstraked. 9And 3GodH430 has taken awayH5337 the cattle of your fatherH1, and givenH5414 [them] to me. 10And it came to pass at the timeH6256 of the ardour of the flocksH6629, that I liftedH5375 up mine eyesH5869, and sawH7200 in a dreamH2472, and behold, the rams that leaped upon the flocksH6629 wereH1961 ringstraked, speckled, and spotted. 11And the AngelH4397 of 4GodH430 saidH559 to me in a dreamH2472, JacobH3290! And I saidH559, HereH2009 am I. 12And he saidH559, LiftH5375 up now thine eyesH5869, and seeH7200: all the rams that leap upon the flockH6629 are ringstraked, speckled, and spotted; for I have seenH7200 all that LabanH3837 does to thee. 13I am the 5GodH410 of Bethel, whereH834 thou anointedst the pillarH4676, whereH834 thou vowedst a vowH5088 to me. NowH6258 ariseH6965, depart out of this landH776, and returnH7725 to the landH776 of thy kindredH4138. 14And RachelH7354 and LeahH3812 answered and saidH559 to him, Is there yetH5750 any portionH2506 or inheritanceH5159 for us in our father's houseH1004? 15Are we not reckonedH2803 of him strangers? for he has soldH4376 us, and has even constantly devouredH398 our moneyH3701. 16For all the wealthH6239 that 6GodH430 has taken from our fatherH1 is ours and our children's; and nowH6258 whatever 7GodH430 has saidH559 to thee do. 17And JacobH3290 roseH6965 up, and setH6965 his sonsH1121 and his wivesH802 upon camelsH1581, 18and carried away all his cattle, and all his propertyH7399 that he had acquired — the cattle of his possessionsH7399 that he had acquired in Padan-Aram, to goH935 to IsaacH3327 his fatherH1, into the landH776 of CanaanH3667. 19And LabanH3837 had goneH1980 to shearH1494 his sheepH6629. And RachelH7354 stoleH1589 the teraphimH8655 that [belonged] to her fatherH1. 20And JacobH3290 deceived LabanH3837 the Syrian, in that he did not tellH5046 him that he fledH1272. 21And he fledH1272 with all that he had; and he roseH6965 up and passedH5674 over the riverH5104, and setH7760 his faceH6440 [toward] mount GileadH1568. 22And it was toldH5046 LabanH3837 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117 that JacobH3290 had fledH1272. 23And he tookH3947 his brethren with him, and pursuedH7291 after him sevenH7651 days' journeyH1870, and overtookH1692 him on mount GileadH1568. 24And 8GodH430 cameH935 to LabanH3837 the Syrian in a dreamH2472 by nightH3915, and saidH559 to him, TakeH8104 careH8104 thou speakH1696 not to JacobH3290 either goodH2896 or badH7451. 25And LabanH3837 came up with JacobH3290; and JacobH3290 had pitchedH8628 his tentH168 on the mountainH2022; LabanH3837 also with his brethren pitchedH8628 on mount GileadH1568. 26And LabanH3837 saidH559 to JacobH3290, What hast thou done, that thou hast deceived me, and hast carried away my daughtersH1323 as captivesH7617 of war? 27WhyH4100 didst thou fleeH1272 awayH7971 covertly, and stealH1589 awayH7971 from me, and didst not tellH5046 me, that I might have conducted thee with mirth and with songsH7892, with tambour and with harpH3658; 28and hast not suffered me to kiss my sonsH1121 and my daughtersH1323? NowH6258 thou hast actedH5528 foolishlyH5528. 29It would be in the power of my handH3027 to do you hurt; but the 9GodH430 of your fatherH1 spokeH1696 to me lastH570 nightH570, sayingH559, TakeH8104 care that thou speakH1696 not to JacobH3290 either goodH2896 or badH7451. 30And nowH6258 that thou must needs be goneH1980, because thou greatly longedst after thy father's houseH1004, whyH4100 hast thou stolenH1589 my 10godsH430? 31And JacobH3290 answered and saidH559 to LabanH3837, I was afraidH3372; for I saidH559, LestH6435 thou shouldest take by force thy daughtersH1323 from me. 32With whomsoever thou findest thy 11godsH430, he shall not liveH2421. Before our brethren discern what is thine with me, and takeH3947 [it] to thee. But JacobH3290 did not knowH3045 that RachelH7354 had stolenH1589 them. 33And LabanH3837 wentH3318 into Jacob's tentH168, and into Leah's tentH168, and into the twoH8147 handmaids' tentsH168, and foundH4672 nothing; and he wentH3318 out of Leah's tentH168, and entered into Rachel's tentH168. 34Now RachelH7354 had takenH3947 the teraphimH8655 and putH7760 them under the camel's saddle; and she satH3427 upon them. And LabanH3837 explored all the tentH168, but foundH4672 nothing. 35And she saidH559 to her fatherH1, Let it not be an occasion of anger in the eyesH5869 of my lordH113 that I cannot riseH6965 up before thee, for it is with me after the manner of womenH802. And he searchedH2664 carefully, but did not findH4672 the teraphimH8655. 36And JacobH3290 was angryH2734, and he disputed with LabanH3837. And JacobH3290 answered and saidH559 to LabanH3837, What is my fault, what my sinH2403, that thou hast so hotlyH1814 pursued after me? 37Whereas thou hast explored all my baggage, what hast thou foundH4672 of all thy householdH1004 stuff? SetH7760 [it] here before my brethren and thy brethren, and let them decideH3198 between us both. 38These twentyH6242 yearsH8141 have I been with thee: thy ewesH7353 and thy she-goats have not cast their young, and the ramsH352 of thy flockH6629 I have not eatenH398. 39What was tornH2966 I have not broughtH935 to thee; I had to bear the loss of it: of my handH3027 hast thou requiredH1245 it, [whether] stolenH1589 by dayH3117 or stolenH1589 by nightH3915. 40Thus it wasH1961 with me: in the dayH3117 the heat consumedH398 me, and the frostH7140 by nightH3915; and my sleepH8142 fledH5074 from mine eyesH5869. 41I have been these twentyH6242 yearsH8141 in thy houseH1004: I have servedH5647 thee fourteen yearsH8141 for thy twoH8147 daughtersH1323, and sixH8337 yearsH8141 for thy flockH6629; and thou hast changedH2498 my wagesH4909 tenH6235 times. 42Had not the 12GodH430 of my fatherH1, the 13GodH430 of AbrahamH85, and the fearH6343 of IsaacH3327, beenH1961 with me, it is certain thou wouldest have sentH7971 me awayH7971 nowH6258 emptyH7387. 14GodH430 has lookedH7200 upon my affliction and the labour of my handsH3709, and has judged lastH570 nightH570. 43And LabanH3837 answered and saidH559 to JacobH3290, The daughtersH1323 are my daughtersH1323, and the sonsH1121 are my sonsH1121, and the flockH6629 is my flockH6629, and all that thou seest is mine; but as for my daughtersH1323, what can I do this dayH3117 to them, or to their sonsH1121 whom they have broughtH3205 forthH3205? 44And nowH6258, come, let us makeH3772 a covenantH1285, I and thou; and let it beH1961 a witnessH5707 between me and thee. 45And JacobH3290 tookH3947 a stoneH68, and set it up [for] a pillarH4676. 46And JacobH3290 saidH559 to his brethren, GatherH3950 stonesH68. And they tookH3947 stonesH68, and madeH6213 a heapH1530, and ateH398 there upon the heapH1530. 47And LabanH3837 calledH7121 it Jegar-sahadutha, and JacobH3290 calledH7121 it GaleedH1567. 48And LabanH3837 saidH559, This heapH1530 is a witnessH5707 between me and thee this dayH3117. ThereforeH3651 was the nameH8034 of it calledH7121 GaleedH1567, 49— and MizpahH4709; for he saidH559, Let Jehovah watchH6822 between me and thee, when we shall be hiddenH5641 oneH376 from another: 50if thou shouldest afflictH6031 my daughtersH1323, or if thou shouldest takeH3947 wivesH802 besides my daughtersH1323, — no manH376 is with us; seeH7200, 15GodH430 is witnessH5707 between me and thee! 51And LabanH3837 saidH559 to JacobH3290, Behold this heapH1530, and behold the pillarH4676 which I have set up between me and thee: 52[let] this heapH1530 be witnessH5707, and the pillarH4676 a witnessH5707, that neither I passH5674 this heapH1530 [to go] to thee, nor thou passH5674 this heapH1530 and this pillarH4676 [to come] to me, for harmH7451. 53The 16GodH430 of AbrahamH85, and the 17GodH430 of NahorH5152, the 18GodH430 of their fatherH1, judgeH8199 between us! And JacobH3290 sworeH7650 by the fearH6343 of his fatherH1 IsaacH3327. 54And JacobH3290 offeredH2076 a sacrificeH2077 upon the mountainH2022, and invited his brethren to eatH398 breadH3899: and they ateH398 breadH3899, and lodged on the mountainH2022. 55And Laban rose early in the morning, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them; and Laban went and returned to his place.
