Genesis 19
Darby Bible
1And the twoH8147 angelsH4397 cameH935 to SodomH5467 at even. And LotH3876 was sittingH3427 in the gateH8179 of SodomH5467. And LotH3876 sawH7200 them, and roseH6965 up to meet them; and he bowedH7812 downH7812, the faceH639 toward the groundH776, 2and he saidH559, Behold now, my lordsH113, turnH5493 in, I pray you, into your servant's houseH1004, and lodge, and washH7364 your feetH7272; and ye shall riseH7925 up earlyH7925, and goH1980 on your wayH1870. And they saidH559, No; but we will pass the night in the openH7339 place. 3And he urged them greatly; and they turnedH5493 in unto him, and entered into his houseH1004. And he madeH6213 them a repast, and bakedH644 unleavenedH4682 cakes; and they ateH398. 4Before they layH7901 downH7901, the menH376 of the cityH5892, the menH376 of SodomH5467, surroundedH5437 the houseH1004, from the youngest to the oldestH2205 — all the peopleH5971 from every quarter. 5And they calledH7121 to LotH3876, and saidH559 to him, WhereH834 are the menH376 that have comeH935 in to thee to-night? bringH935 them out to us that we may knowH3045 them. 6And LotH3876 wentH3318 out to them to the entranceH6607, and shutH5462 the doorH1817 after him, 7and saidH559, I pray you, my brethren, do not wickedly! 8Behold now, I have twoH8147 daughtersH1323 who have not knownH3045 a manH376: let me now bringH935 them out to you; and do to them as is goodH2896 in your sight: onlyH7535, to these menH376 do nothing; for thereforeH3651 have they comeH935 under the shadowH6738 of my roof. 9And they saidH559, Back there! And they saidH559 [again], This oneH259 cameH935 to sojourn, and he must be a judgeH8199? NowH6258 we will deal worse with thee than with them. And they pressed hard on the manH376 — on LotH3876; and drewH5066 near to breakH7665 the doorH1817. 10And the menH376 stretchedH7971 out their handH3027, and broughtH935 LotH3876 into the houseH1004 to them, and shutH5462 the doorH1817. 11And they smote the menH376 that were at the entranceH6607 of the houseH1004 with blindnessH5575, from the smallest to the greatestH1419; and they weariedH3811 themselves to findH4672 the entranceH6607. 12And the menH376 saidH559 to LotH3876, Whom hast thou hereH6311 besides? a son-in-law, and thy sonsH1121, and thy daughtersH1323, and all whom thou hast in the cityH5892 — bringH3318 [them] out of the placeH4725. 13For we are going to destroyH7843 this placeH4725, because the cryH6818 of them is greatH1431 before Jehovah, and Jehovah has sentH7971 us to destroyH7843 it. 14And LotH3876 wentH3318 out, and spokeH1696 to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughtersH1323, and saidH559, Up, goH3318 out of this placeH4725, for Jehovah will destroyH7843 the cityH5892. But he wasH1961 as if he jested, in the sight of his sons-in-law. 15And as the dawnH7837 aroseH6965, the angelsH4397 urged LotH3876, sayingH559, Up, takeH3947 thy wifeH802 and thy twoH8147 daughtersH1323 who are present, lestH6435 thou perish in the iniquityH5771 of the cityH5892. 16And as he lingered, the menH376 laid holdH2388 on his handH3027, and on the handH3027 of his wifeH802, and on the handH3027 of his twoH8147 daughtersH1323, Jehovah being merciful to him; and they led him out, and set him without the cityH5892. 17And it came to pass when they had broughtH3318 them outside, that he saidH559, EscapeH4422 for thy lifeH5315: lookH5027 not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain: escapeH4422 to the mountainH2022, lestH6435 thou perish. 18And LotH3876 saidH559 to them, Not [so], I pray thee, LordH136; 19behold now, thy servantH5650 has foundH4672 favour in thine eyesH5869, and thou hast magnifiedH1431 thy goodness, which thou hast shewn to me in preserving my soulH5315 aliveH2421; but I cannot escapeH4422 to the mountainH2022, lestH6435 calamityH7451 lay holdH1692 on me, that I dieH4191. 20Behold now, this cityH5892 is near to fleeH5127 to, and it is smallH4705: I pray thee, let me escapeH4422 thither — is it not smallH4705? — and my soulH5315 shall liveH2421. 21And he saidH559 to him, Behold, I have accepted thee concerningH413 this thingH1697 alsoH1571, that I will not overthrowH2015 the cityH5892 of which thou hast spokenH1696. 22HasteH4116, escapeH4422 thither; for I cannot do anythingH1697 until thou art comeH935 there. ThereforeH3651 the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 is calledH7121 ZoarH6820. 23The sunH8121 rose upon the earthH776 when LotH3876 cameH935 to ZoarH6820. 24And Jehovah rainedH4305 on SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017 brimstone and fireH784 from Jehovah out of heavenH8064, 25and overthrewH2015 those citiesH5892, and all the plain, and all the inhabitantsH3427 of the citiesH5892, and what grew upon the groundH127. 26And his wifeH802 lookedH5027 back from behind him, and she becameH1961 a pillar of saltH4417. 27And AbrahamH85 roseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242 [and went] to the placeH4725 whereH834 he had stoodH5975 before Jehovah; 28and he lookedH7200 toward SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017, and toward all the landH776 of the plain, and beheld, and lo, a smokeH7008 wentH5927 up from the landH776 as the smokeH7008 of a furnaceH3536. 29And it came to pass when 1GodH430 destroyedH7843 the citiesH5892 of the plain, that 2GodH430 rememberedH2142 AbrahamH85, and sentH7971 LotH3876 out of the midstH8432 of the overthrowH2015, when he overthrewH2015 the citiesH5892 in which LotH3876 dweltH3427. 30And LotH3876 wentH5927 up from ZoarH6820, and dweltH3427 in the mountainH2022, and his twoH8147 daughtersH1323 with him; for he fearedH3372 to dwellH3427 in ZoarH6820. And he dweltH3427 in a caveH4631, he and his twoH8147 daughtersH1323. 31And the first-born saidH559 to the youngerH6810, Our fatherH1 is oldH2204, and there is not a manH376 in the landH776 to comeH935 in to us after the manner of all the earthH776: 32come, let us giveH8248 our fatherH1 wineH3196 to drinkH8248, and let us lieH7901 with him, that we may preserveH2421 seedH2233 aliveH2421 of our fatherH1. 33And they gaveH8248 their fatherH1 wineH3196 to drinkH8248 that nightH3915. And the first-born wentH935 in, and layH7901 with her fatherH1, and he did not knowH3045 of her lyingH7901 downH7901, nor of her risingH6965. 34And it cameH935 to pass on the nextH4283 dayH4283 that the first-born saidH559 to the youngerH6810, Lo, I layH7901 lastH570 nightH3915 with my fatherH1: let us giveH8248 him wineH3196 to drinkH8248 to-night alsoH1571, and goH935 thou in, lieH7901 with him, that we may preserveH2421 seedH2233 aliveH2421 of our fatherH1. 35And they gaveH8248 their fatherH1 wineH3196 to drinkH8248 that nightH3915 alsoH1571. And the youngerH6810 aroseH6965, and layH7901 with him; and he did not knowH3045 of her lyingH7901 downH7901, nor of her risingH6965. 36And both the daughtersH1323 of LotH3876 were with child by their fatherH1. 37And the first-born boreH3205 a sonH1121, and calledH7121 his nameH8034 MoabH4124: the same is the fatherH1 of the Moabites to this dayH3117. 38And the youngerH6810, she alsoH1571 boreH3205 a sonH1121, and calledH7121 his nameH8034 Ben-ammi; the same is the fatherH1 of the children of AmmonH5983 to this dayH3117.
