Darby Bible

1And AbrahamH85 was oldH2204, [and] advanced in age; and Jehovah had blessedH1288 AbrahamH85 in all things. 2And AbrahamH85 saidH559 to his servantH5650, the eldest of his houseH1004, who ruledH4910 over all that he had, PutH7760 thy handH3027, I pray thee, under my thighH3409, 3and I will make thee swearH7650 by Jehovah, the 1GodH430 of the heavensH8064 and the 2GodH430 of the earthH776, that thou takeH3947 not a wifeH802 for my sonH1121 of the daughtersH1323 of the CanaanitesH3669, among whom I am dwellingH3427; 4but thou shalt go to my landH776 and to my kindredH4138, and takeH3947 a wifeH802 for my sonH1121 IsaacH3327. 5And the servantH5650 saidH559 to him, PerhapsH194 the womanH802 will not be willingH14 to follow me to this landH776: must I, then, bringH3318 thy sonH1121 again in any case to the landH776 from which thou hast removed? 6And AbrahamH85 saidH559 to him, Beware that thou bringH7725 not my sonH1121 thither again. 7Jehovah the 3GodH430 of the heavensH8064, who tookH3947 me out of my father's houseH1004, and out of the landH776 of my nativity, and who has spokenH1696 to me, and who has swornH7650 to me, sayingH559, Unto thy seedH2233 will I giveH5414 this landH776 — he will sendH7971 his angelH4397 before thee, that thou mayest takeH3947 a wifeH802 for my sonH1121 thence. 8And if the womanH802 be not willingH14 to follow thee, then thou shalt be quit of this my oathH7621: onlyH7535, bringH7725 not my sonH1121 thither again. 9And the servantH5650 putH7760 his handH3027 under the thighH3409 of AbrahamH85 his masterH113, and sworeH7650 unto him concerning that matterH1697. 10And the servantH5650 tookH3947 tenH6235 camelsH1581 of the camelsH1581 of his masterH113, and departed; now all the treasure of his masterH113 was under his handH3027; and he aroseH6965 and went to Aram-naharaim, to the cityH5892 of NahorH5152. 11And he made the camelsH1581 kneel down outside the cityH5892 by a wellH875 of waterH4325, at the timeH6256 of the eveningH6153, when the women cameH3318 out to drawH7579 [waterH4325]. 12And he saidH559, Jehovah, 4GodH430 of my masterH113 AbrahamH85, meet me, I pray thee, [with thy blessing] this dayH3117, and deal kindly with my masterH113 AbrahamH85. 13Behold, I standH5324 [hereH2009] by the well of waterH4325, and the daughtersH1323 of the menH376 of the cityH5892 comeH3318 out to drawH7579 waterH4325. 14And let it come to pass, [that] the maiden to whom I shall sayH559, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drinkH8354, and who will sayH559, DrinkH8354, and I will giveH8248 thy camelsH1581 drinkH8354 alsoH1571, beH1961 she whom thou hast appointedH3198 for thy servantH5650 IsaacH3327; and hereby I shall knowH3045 that thou hast dealt kindly with my masterH113. 15And it came to pass before he had endedH3615 speakingH1696, that behold, Rebecca came out, who wasH1961 bornH3205 to BethuelH1328, sonH1121 of MilcahH4435 the wifeH802 of NahorH5152, Abraham's brotherH251; and [she had] her pitcher upon her shoulderH7926. 16And the maiden was veryH3966 fair in countenance; a virginH1330, and no manH376 had knownH3045 her. And she wentH5927 downH3381 to the well, and filledH4390 her pitcher, and cameH5927 up. 17And the servantH5650 ranH7323 to meet her, and saidH559, Let me, I pray thee, sip a littleH4592 waterH4325 out of thy pitcher. 18And she saidH559, DrinkH8354, my lordH113! And she hasted and let down her pitcher on her handH3027, and gave him to drinkH8354. 19And when she had givenH8248 him enough to drinkH8354, she saidH559, I will drawH7579 [waterH8248] for thy camelsH1581 alsoH1571, until they have drunkH8354 enough. 20And she hasted and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ranH7323 againH5750 to the wellH875 to drawH7579 [waterH7579]; and she drewH7579 for all his camelsH1581. 21And the manH376 was astonished at her, remaining silentH2790, to knowH3045 whether Jehovah had madeH3045 his journeyH1870 prosperous or not. 22And it came to pass when the camelsH1581 had drunkH8354 enough, that the manH376 tookH3947 a goldH2091 ringH5141, of half a shekel weightH4948, and twoH8147 braceletsH6781 for her handsH3027, tenH6235 [shekels] weightH4948 of goldH2091, 23and saidH559, Whose daughterH1323 art thou? tellH5046 me, I pray thee. Is there room [in] thy father's houseH1004 for us to lodge? 24And she saidH559 to him, I am the daughterH1323 of BethuelH1328 the sonH1121 of MilcahH4435, whom she boreH3205 to NahorH5152. 25And she saidH559 to him, There is strawH8401, and alsoH1571 muchH7227 provender with us; alsoH1571 roomH4725 to lodge. 26And the manH376 stooped, and bowedH7812 downH7812 before Jehovah, 27and saidH559, BlessedH1288 be Jehovah, 5GodH430 of my masterH113 AbrahamH85, who has not withdrawn his loving-kindness and his faithfulnessH571 from my masterH113; I being in the wayH1870, Jehovah has ledH5148 me to the houseH1004 of my master's brethren. 28And the maiden ranH7323 and toldH5046 these thingsH1697 to her mother's houseH1004. 29And Rebecca had a brotherH251, namedH8034 LabanH3837; and LabanH3837 ranH7323 out to the manH376, to the well. 30And it cameH935 to pass when he sawH7200 the ringH5141 and the braceletsH6781 on his sister's handH3027, and when he heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of Rebecca his sisterH269, sayingH559, ThusH3541 spokeH1696 the manH376 to me — that he cameH935 to the manH376, and behold, he wasH1961 standingH5975 by the camelsH1581, by the well. 31And he saidH559, ComeH935 in, blessedH1288 of Jehovah! whyH4100 standest thou outside? for I have prepared the houseH1004, and room for the camelsH1581. 32And the manH376 cameH935 into the houseH1004; and he ungirded the camelsH1581, and gaveH5414 the camelsH1581 strawH8401 and provender, and waterH4325 to washH7364 his feetH7272, and the feetH7272 of the menH376 who were with him. 33And there was set [meat] before him to eatH398; but he saidH559, I will not eatH398 until I have made known my business. And he saidH559, SpeakH1696 on. 34And he saidH559, I am Abraham's servantH5650. 35And Jehovah has blessedH1288 my masterH113 greatly, and he is becomeH1431 greatH1431; and he has givenH5414 him sheepH6629 and cattleH1241, and silverH3701 and goldH2091, and bondmen and bondwomen, and camelsH1581 and asses. 36And SarahH8283, my master's wifeH802, boreH3205 a sonH1121 to my masterH113 after she had grown old; and unto him has he givenH5414 all that he has. 37And my masterH113 madeH7650 me swearH7650, sayingH559, Thou shalt not takeH3947 a wifeH802 for my sonH1121 of the daughtersH1323 of the CanaaniteH3669, in whose landH776 I am dwellingH3427; 38but thou shalt by all means go to my father's houseH1004 and to my familyH4940, and takeH3947 a wifeH802 for my sonH1121. 39And I saidH559 to my masterH113, PerhapsH194 the womanH802 will not follow me? 40And he saidH559 to me, Jehovah, before whom I have walkedH1980, will sendH7971 his angelH4397 with thee, and prosperH6743 thy wayH1870, that thou mayest takeH3947 a wifeH802 for my sonH1121 of my familyH4940, and out of my father's houseH1004. 41ThenH227 shalt thou beH1961 quit of my oathH423, when thou shalt have comeH935 to my familyH4940. And if they giveH5414 thee not [one], thou shalt beH1961 quit of my oathH423. 42And I cameH935 this dayH3117 to the well, and saidH559, Jehovah, 6GodH430 of my masterH113 AbrahamH85, if now thou wilt prosperH6743 my wayH1870 on which I goH1980, 43behold, I standH5324 by the well of waterH4325, and let it come to pass that the damsel who cometh forthH3318 to drawH7579 [waterH4325], and to whom I shall sayH559, GiveH8248 me, I pray thee, a littleH4592 waterH4325 out of thy pitcher to drinkH8248, 44and she shall sayH559 to me, Both drinkH8354 thou, and I will alsoH1571 drawH7579 for thy camelsH1581 — that she should be the womanH802 whom Jehovah hath appointedH3198 for my master's sonH1121. 45Before I endedH3615 speakingH1696 in my heartH3820, behold, Rebecca cameH3318 forthH3318 with her pitcher on her shoulderH7926, and wentH3318 downH3381 to the well, and drewH7579 [waterH8248]; and I saidH559 to her, GiveH8248 me, I pray thee, to drinkH8248. 46And she hasted and let down her pitcher from her [shoulder], and saidH559, DrinkH8354, and I will giveH8248 thy camelsH1581 drinkH8354 alsoH1571. And I drankH8354; and she gave the camelsH1581 drinkH8354 alsoH1571. 47And I askedH7592 her, and saidH559, Whose daughterH1323 art thou? And she saidH559, The daughterH1323 of BethuelH1328, Nahor's sonH1121, whom MilcahH4435 boreH3205 to him. And I putH7760 the ringH5141 on her noseH639, and the braceletsH6781 on her handsH3027. 48And I stooped, and bowedH7812 downH7812 before Jehovah; and I blessedH1288 Jehovah, 7GodH430 of my masterH113 AbrahamH85, who has ledH5148 me the right wayH1870 to takeH3947 my master's brother's daughterH1323 for his sonH1121. 49And nowH6258, if ye will deal kindly and truly with my masterH113, tellH5046 me; and if not, tellH5046 me; and I will turnH6437 to the rightH3225 handH3225 or to the left. 50And LabanH3837 and BethuelH1328 answered and saidH559, The thingH1697 proceeds from Jehovah: we cannot speakH1696 to thee badH7451 or goodH2896. 51Behold, Rebecca is before thee: takeH3947 [her], and go awayH3947; and let her beH1961 wifeH802 of thy master's sonH1121, as Jehovah has saidH1696. 52And it came to pass, when Abraham's servantH5650 heardH8085 their wordsH1697, that he bowedH7812 downH7812 to the earthH776 before Jehovah. 53And the servantH5650 broughtH3318 forthH3318 silverH3701 articlesH3627, and goldH2091 articlesH3627, and clothingH899, and he gaveH5414 [them] to Rebecca; and he gaveH5414 to her brotherH251, and to her motherH517, preciousH4030 thingsH3627. 54And they ateH398 and drankH8354, he and the menH376 that were with him, and lodged. And they roseH6965 up in the morningH1242; and he saidH559, SendH7971 me awayH7971 to my masterH113. 55And her brotherH251 and her motherH517 saidH559, Let the maiden abide with us [some] daysH3117, or [sayH559] tenH6218; after that she shall go. 56And he saidH559 to them, Do not hinder me, seeing Jehovah has prospered my wayH1870: sendH7971 me awayH7971, and I will goH7971 to my masterH113. 57And they saidH559, Let us callH7121 the maiden and inquire at her mouthH6310. 58And they calledH7121 Rebecca and saidH559 to her, Wilt thou go with this manH376? And she saidH559, I will go. 59And they sentH7971 awayH7971 Rebecca their sisterH269, and her nurse, and Abraham's servantH5650, and his menH376. 60And they blessedH1288 Rebecca, and saidH559 to her, Thou art our sisterH269; mayest thou becomeH1961 thousandsH505 of tens of thousandsH505; and may thy seedH2233 possessH3423 the gateH8179 of their enemies! 61And Rebecca aroseH6965, and her maidsH5291, and they rodeH7392 upon the camelsH1581, and followed the manH376. And the servantH5650 tookH3947 Rebecca, and went away. 62And IsaacH3327 had just returned from Beer-lahai-roiH883; for he was dwellingH3427 in the southH5045 country. 63And IsaacH3327 had goneH3318 out to meditate in the fieldsH7704 toward the beginning of eveningH6153. And he liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 and sawH7200, and behold, camelsH1581 were comingH935. 64And Rebecca liftedH5375 up her eyesH5869 and sawH7200 IsaacH3327, and she sprang off the camelH1581. 65And she had saidH559 to the servantH5650, Who is the manH376 that is walkingH1980 in the fieldsH7704 to meet us? And the servantH5650 saidH559, That is my masterH113! Then she tookH3947 the veilH6809, and coveredH3680 herself. 66And the servantH5650 told IsaacH3327 all thingsH1697 that he had done. 67And IsaacH3327 led her into his motherH517 Sarah's tentH168; and he tookH3947 Rebecca, and she becameH1961 his wifeH802, and he lovedH157 her. And IsaacH3327 wasH1961 comfortedH5162 after [the death of] his motherH517.
