Genesis 16
Revised Version 1895
1NowH802 SaraiH8297 Abram’sH87 wifeH802 bare him noH3808 childrenH3205: and sheH3808 had an handmaid, an EgyptianH4713, whoseH8034 nameH8034 was HagarH1904. 2And SaraiH8297 saidH559 unto AbramH87, BeholdH2009 nowH4994, the LORDH3068 hath restrainedH6113 meH413 from bearingH3205; goH935 in, I prayH4994 thee, unto my handmaid; it may be that I shall obtainH1129 childrenH3205 by herH413. And AbramH87 hearkened to the voiceH6963 of SaraiH8297. 3And SaraiH8297 Abram’sH87 wifeH802 tookH3947 HagarH1904 the EgyptianH4713, herH3947 handmaid, afterH7093 AbramH87 had dweltH3427 tenH6235 yearsH8141 in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and gaveH5414 herH3947 to AbramH87 herH3947 husbandH376 to be his wifeH802. 4And he wentH935 in unto HagarH1904, and sheH3588 conceivedH2029: and when sheH3588 sawH7200 that sheH3588 had conceivedH2029, herH413 mistressH1404 was despisedH7043 in herH413 eyesH5869. 5And SaraiH8297 saidH559 unto AbramH87, My wrongH2555 be uponH5921 thee: I gaveH5414 my handmaid intoH413 thy bosomH2436; and when sheH3588 sawH7200 that sheH3588 had conceivedH2029, I was despisedH7043 in herH413 eyesH5869: the LORDH3068 judgeH8199 betweenH996 meH413 and thee. 6But AbramH87 saidH559 unto SaraiH8297, BeholdH2009, thy maidH8198 is in thy handH3027; doH6213 to herH413 that whichH5869 is goodH2896 in thine eyesH5869. And SaraiH8297 dealt hardly with herH413, and sheH2896 fledH1272 from herH413 faceH6440. 7And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 foundH4672 herH5921 by a fountain of waterH4325 in the wildernessH4057, by the fountain in the wayH1870 to ShurH7793. 8And he saidH559, HagarH1904, Sarai’sH8297 handmaid, whence camest thou? and whither goest thou? And sheH6440 saidH559, I fleeH1272 from the faceH6440 of my mistressH1404 SaraiH8297. 9And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto herH413, ReturnH7725 to thy mistressH1404, and submit thyself underH8478 herH413 handsH3027. 10And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto herH559, I will greatlyH7235 multiplyH7235 thy seedH2233, that it shall notH3808 be numberedH5608 for multitudeH7230. 11And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto herH413, BeholdH2009, thou art with childH2030, and shalt bearH3205 a sonH1121; and thou shalt callH7121 his nameH8034 IshmaelH3458, becauseH3588 the LORDH3068 hath heardH8085 thy affliction. 12And he shall be as a wild-ass among menH120; his handH3027 shall be againstH5921 everyH3605 manH120, and everyH3605 man’sH120 handH3027 againstH5921 him; and he shall dwellH7931 in the presenceH6440 of allH3605 his brethrenH251. 13And sheH3588 calledH7121 the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 that spake unto herH413, Thou art a GodH410 that seeth: for sheH3588 saidH559, Have I evenH1571 hereH1988 lookedH7200 afterH310 him that seeth meH413? 14Wherefore the wellH875 was calledH7121 Beer-lahai-roiH883; beholdH2009, it is betweenH996 KadeshH6946 and BeredH1260. 15And HagarH1904 bare AbramH87 a sonH1121: and AbramH87 calledH7121 the nameH8034 of his sonH1121, whichH834 HagarH1904 bare, IshmaelH3458. 16And AbramH87 was fourscore and sixH8337 yearsH8141 oldH1121, when HagarH1904 bare IshmaelH3458 to AbramH87.
