Genesis 39
1And JosephH3130 was broughtH3381 downH3381 to EgyptH4714; and PotipharH6318, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard, an EgyptianH4713, boughtH7069 him of the handH3027 of the IshmaelitesH3459, that had broughtH3381 him downH3381 thither. 2And Jehovah wasH1961 with JosephH3130, and he wasH1961 a prosperous manH376; and he wasH1961 in the houseH1004 of his masterH113 the EgyptianH4713. 3And his masterH113 sawH7200 that Jehovah was with him, and that Jehovah madeH6213 all that he did to prosperH6743 in his handH3027. 4And JosephH3130 foundH4672 favorH2580 in his sight, and he ministered unto him: and he madeH5414 him overseer over his houseH1004, and all that he had he putH5414 into his handH3027. 5And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his houseH1004, and over all that he had, that Jehovah blessedH1288 the Egyptian’s houseH1004 for Joseph’s sake; and the blessingH1293 of Jehovah wasH1961 upon all that he had, in the houseH1004 and in the fieldH7704. 6And he leftH5800 all that he had in Joseph’s handH3027; and he knewH3045 not aught that wasH1961 with him, save the breadH3899 which he did eatH398. And JosephH3130 wasH1961 comely, and well-favored.
7And it came to pass after these thingsH1697, that his master’sH113 wifeH802 cast her eyesH5869 upon JosephH3130; and she saidH559, LieH7901 with me. 8But he refusedH3985, and saidH559 unto his master’sH113 wifeH802, Behold, my masterH113 knoweth not what is with me in the houseH1004, and he hath putH5414 all that he hath into my handH3027: 9he is not greaterH1419 in this houseH1004 than I; neither hath he keptH2820 backH2820 anythingH3972 from me but thee, because thou art his wifeH802: howH349 then can I do this greatH1419 wickednessH7451, and sinH2398 against GodH430? 10And it came to pass, as she spake to JosephH3130 dayH3117 by dayH3117, that he hearkened not unto her, to lieH7901 by her, or to beH1961 with her. 11And it cameH935 to pass about this time, that he wentH935 into the houseH1004 to do his workH4399; and there was none of the menH376 of the houseH1004 there within. 12And she caught him by his garmentH899, sayingH559, LieH7901 with me: and he left his garmentH899 in her handH3027, and fledH5127, and got him out. 13And it came to pass, when she sawH7200 that he had leftH5800 his garmentH899 in her handH3027, and wasH1961 fledH5127 forth, 14that she calledH7121 unto the menH376 of her houseH1004, and spake unto them, sayingH559, SeeH7200, he hath broughtH935 in a HebrewH5680 unto us to mock us: he cameH935 in unto me to lieH7901 with me, and I cried with a loud voiceH6963: 15and it came to pass, when he heardH8085 that I liftedH7311 up my voiceH6963 and cried, that he left his garmentH899 by me, and fledH5127, and got him out. 16And she laid up his garmentH899 by her, until his masterH113 cameH935 home. 17And she spake unto him according to these wordsH1697, sayingH559, The HebrewH5680 servantH5650, whom thou hast broughtH935 unto us, cameH935 in unto me to mock me: 18and it came to pass, as I liftedH7311 up my voiceH6963 and cried, that he leftH5800 his garmentH899 by me, and fledH5127 out.
19And it came to pass, when his masterH113 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of his wifeH802, which she spake unto him, sayingH559, After this mannerH1697 did thy servantH5650 to me; that his wrath wasH1961 kindled. 20And Joseph’s masterH113 tookH3947 him, and putH5414 him into the prison, the placeH4725 whereH834 the king’sH4428 prisonersH631 were boundH631: and he wasH1961 there in the prison. 21But Jehovah wasH1961 with JosephH3130, and showed kindness unto him, and gaveH5414 him favorH2580 in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’sH3130 handH3027 all the prisonersH615 that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he wasH1961 the doer of it. 23The keeper of the prison lookedH7200 not to anything that was under his handH3027, because Jehovah was with him; and that which he did, Jehovah madeH6213 it to prosperH6743.
