2But He repliedἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611to them, “When it is eveningὀψίαςopsiasG3798,you sayλέγετε·legeteG3004, ‘It will befairG2105weatherG2105,for the skyοὐρανός.ouranosG3772is redπυρράζειpurrazeiG4449.’
3And in the morningπρωΐ·prōiG4404, ‘There will bea stormχειμών,cheimōnG5494todayσήμερονsēmeronG4594,for the skyοὐρανός.ouranosG3772is redπυρράζειpurrazeiG4449and threateningστυγνάζωνstugnazōnG4768.’You knowγινώσκετεginōsketeG1097howG1097to discernδιακρίνειν,diakrineinG1252theappearanceπρόσωπονprosōponG4383of the skyοὐρανοῦouranouG3772,but are you unableοὐ δύνασθε;ou dunastheG1410G3756to discernthe signsσημεῖαsēmeiaG4592of the timesκαιρῶνkairōnG2540?
4An evilπονηρὰponēraG4190and adulterousμοιχαλὶςmoichalisG3428generationγενεὰgeneaG1074wantsἐπιζητεῖ·epizēteiG1934asignσημεῖονsēmeionG4592; and so asignσημεῖονsēmeionG4592will not be givenδοθήσεταιdothēsetaiG1325to it, exceptG1508the signσημεῖονsēmeionG4592of JonahἸωνᾶIōnaG2495.”And He leftκαταλιπὼνkatalipōnG2641them and wentG565awayἀπῆλθεν.¶apēlthenG565.
5And the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101cameἐλθόντεςelthontesG2064to the otherπέρανperanG4008sideG4008of the sea,but they had forgottenἐπελάθοντοepelathontoG1950to bringλαβεῖν.¶labeinG2983anybreadἄρτουςartousG740.
6And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to them,“WatchὁρᾶτεhorateG3708outG3708andbewareπροσέχετεprosecheteG4337of theleavenζύμηςzumēsG2219of thePhariseesΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnG5330and SadduceesΣαδδουκαίων.SaddoukaiōnG4523.”
7They began to discussδιελογίζοντοdielogizontoG1260thisamongἐνenG1722themselvesἑαυτοῖςhe'autoisG1438,sayingλέγοντεςlegontesG3004, “He said thatbecauseὅτιhotiG3754we did not bringἐλάβομεν.¶elabomenG2983anybreadἄρτουςartousG740.”
8But JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424,awareΓνοὺςGnousG1097of this,saidG3004, “You menG3640ofG3640littleὀλιγόπιστοι,oligopistoiG3640faithG3640,whyτίtiG5101are you discussingδιαλογίζεσθεdialogizestheG1260amongἐνenG1722yourselvesἑαυτοῖς,he'autoisG1438the factthat you haveἔχετε;echeteG2192noοὐκoukG3756breadἄρτουςartousG740?

12ThenΤότεToteG5119they understoodσυνῆκανsunēkanG4920that He did not sayG3004to bewareπροσέχεινprosecheinG4337of theleavenζύμηςzumēsG2219of breadἄρτωνartōnG740,but of the teachingδιδαχῆςdidachēsG1322of thePhariseesΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnG5330and SadduceesΣαδδουκαίων.¶SaddoukaiōnG4523.
13NowδὲdeG1161when JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424cameἘλθὼνElthōnG2064into the regionμέρηmerēG3313ofCaesareaΚαισαρείαςKaisareiasG2542PhilippiΦιλίππουPhilippouG5376,He was askingἠρώταērōtaG2065His disciplesμαθητὰςmathētasG3101,“WhoτίναtinaG5101do peopleἄνθρωποιanthrōpoiG444sayG3004thatthe SonυἱὸνhuionG5207of Manἀνθρώπου;anthrōpouG444is?”
14And they saidG3004, “Someμέν·menG3588G3303sayJohnἸωάννηνIōannēnG2491the Baptistβαπτιστήν,baptistēnG910;and othersἄλλοιalloiG243,ElijahἨλίαν,ĒlianG2243; and stillothersἕτεροιheteroiG2087,JeremiahἸερεμίανIeremianG2408,orἢēG2228oneἕναhenaG1520of the otherprophetsπροφητῶν.prophētōnG4396.”
15He saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them,“But whoτίναtinaG5101do you yourselvesὑμεῖςhumeisG4771sayλέγετεlegeteG3004that I amG1510?”
16SimonΣίμωνSimōnG4613PeterΠέτροςPetrosG4074answeredἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisG611, “You are theChristχριστὸςchristosG5547,the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207ofthe livingζῶντος.¶zōntosG2198GodθεοῦtheouG2316.”
17And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to him,“BlessedμακάριοςmakariosG3107are you,SimonΣίμωνSimōnG4613BarjonaΒαριωνᾶ,BariōnaG920,becauseὅτιhotiG3754fleshσὰρξsarxG4561and bloodαἷμαhaimaG129did not revealἀπεκάλυψένapekalupsenG601thisto you, but My FatherπατήρpatērG3962whoG3588is in heavenοὐρανοῖς.ouranoisG3772.
18And I alsoG2532sayλέγωlegōG3004to you that you arePeterΠέτροςPetrosG4074,and upon thisταύτῃtautēG3778rockπέτρᾳpetraG4073I will buildοἰκοδομήσωoikodomēsōG3618My churchἐκκλησίαν,ekklēsianG1577;and the gatesπύλαιpulaiG4439ofHadesᾅδουhadouG86will not overpowerκατισχύσουσινkatischusousinG2729it.
19I will giveδώσωdōsōG1325youthe keysκλεῖδαςkleidasG2807of the kingdomβασιλείαςbasileiasG932of heavenοὐρανῶν,ouranōnG3772; andwhateverὃ ἐὰνho eanG3739G1437youbindδήσῃςdēsēsG1210on earthγῆς,gēsG1093shall have been boundδεδεμένονdedemenonG1210in heavenοὐρανοῖς,ouranoisG3772,and whateverὃ ἐὰνho eanG3739G1437youlooseλύσῃςlusēsG3089on earthγῆς,gēsG1093shall have been loosedλελυμένονlelumenonG3089in heavenοὐρανοῖς.¶ouranoisG3772.”
20ThenΤότεToteG5119He gaveG2008the disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101strictG2008ordersG2008that they were to tellG3004noG3367oneμηδενὶmēdeniG3367that He was theChristχριστός.¶christosG5547.
21From thatG5119timeτότεtoteG5119JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424beganἤρξατοērxatoG757topointG1166outG1166to His disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101that it was necessaryδεῖdeiG1163for Him to goἀπελθεῖνapeltheinG565to JerusalemἹεροσόλυμαHi'erosolumaG2414and tosufferπαθεῖνpatheinG3958manyπολλὰpollaG4183thingsG4183from the eldersπρεσβυτέρωνpresbuterōnG4245,chiefἀρχιερέωνarchiereōnG749priestsG749,and scribesγραμματέωνgrammateōnG1122,and to be killedἀποκτανθῆναιapoktanthēnaiG615,and to be raisedG1453upG1453on the thirdτρίτῃtritēG5154dayἡμέρᾳhēmeraG2250.
22And yetPeterΠέτροςPetrosG4074tookG4355Him asideG4355and beganἤρξατοērxatoG757to rebukeἐπιτιμᾶνepitimanG2008Him, sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “GodG2436forbidG2436it, Lordκύριε·kurieG2962!Thisτοῦτο.¶toutoG3778shall neverοὐ μὴou mēG3756G3361happenἔσταιestaiG1510to You!”
23But He turnedστραφεὶςstrapheisG4762and saidG3004to PeterΠέτρῳ·PetrōG4074,“GetὕπαγεhupageG5217behindὀπίσωopisōG3694Me,Satanσατανᾶ,satanaG4567!You are a stumblingσκάνδαλονskandalonG4625blockG4625to Me; for you are not settingG5426your mindG5426onG5426God’sθεοῦtheouG2316purposes, but men’sἀνθρώπων.¶anthrōpōnG444.”
24ThenΤότεToteG5119JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to His disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101,“IfεἴeiG1487anyoneτιςtisG5100wantsθέλειtheleiG2309to comeἐλθεῖν,eltheinG2064afterὀπίσωopisōG3694Me, he must denyἀπαρνησάσθωaparnēsasthōG533himselfἑαυτὸνhe'autonG1438,takeἀράτωaratōG142upG142his crossσταυρὸνstauronG4716,and followἀκολουθείτωakoloutheitōG190Me.
25Forwhoeverὃς ἐὰνhos eanG3739G1437wantsθέλῃthelēG2309to saveσῶσαι,sōsaiG4982hislifeψυχὴνpsuchēnG5590will loseἀπολέσειapoleseiG622it; but whoeverὃς ἂνhos anG3739G302losesἀπολέσῃapolesēG622hislifeψυχὴνpsuchēnG5590for My sakeἕνεκενhenekenG1752will findεὑρήσειheurēseiG2147it.
26For whatΤίTiG5101goodG5623will it doG5623a personἄνθρωπος,anthrōposG444ifἐὰνeanG1437he gainsκερδήσῃ,kerdēsēG2770the wholeὅλονholonG3650worldκόσμονkosmonG2889, butforfeitsζημιωθῇ;zēmiōthēaG2210his soulψυχὴνpsuchēnG5590?OrἢēG2228whatτίtiG5101will a personἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444giveδώσειdōseiG1325in exchangeἀντάλλαγμαantallagmaG465for his soulψυχῆςpsuchēsG5590?
