Isaiah 40
Darby Bible
1ComfortH5162 ye, comfortH5162 ye my peopleH5971, saith your 1GodH430. 2SpeakH1696 to the heartH3820 of JerusalemH3389, and cry unto her, that her time of suffering is accomplished, that her iniquityH5771 is pardoned; for she hath receivedH3947 of Jehovah's handH3027 doubleH3718 for all her sinsH2403. 3The voiceH6963 of one crying in the wildernessH4057: Prepare ye the wayH1870 of Jehovah, makeH3474 straightH3474 in the desertH6160 a highwayH4546 for our 2GodH430! 4Every valleyH1516 shall beH1961 raised up, and every mountainH2022 and hillH2022 shall beH1961 brought lowH8213; and the crooked shall beH1961 made straight, and the rough places a plainH4334. 5And the gloryH3519 of Jehovah shall be revealedH1540, and all fleshH1320 shall seeH7200 [it] togetherH3162: for the mouthH6310 of Jehovah hath spokenH1696. 6A voiceH6963 saith, Cry. And he saith, What shall I cry? — All fleshH1320 is grassH2682, and all the comeliness thereof as the flowerH6731 of the fieldH7704. 7The grassH2682 withereth, the flowerH6731 fadeth, for the breathH7307 of Jehovah bloweth upon it: surely the peopleH5971 is grassH2682. 8The grassH2682 withereth, the flowerH6731 fadeth; but the wordH1697 of our 3GodH430 abideth for everH5769. 9O ZionH6726, that bringest glad tidings, get thee up into a highH1364 mountainH2022; O JerusalemH3389, that bringest glad tidings, liftH7311 up thy voiceH6963 with strengthH3581: liftH7311 it up, be not afraidH3372; sayH559 unto the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, Behold your 4GodH430! 10Behold, the LordH136 Jehovah will comeH935 with might, and his armH2220 shall ruleH4910 for him; behold, his rewardH7939 is with him, and his recompence before him. 11He will feedH7462 his flockH5739 like a shepherdH7462: he will gatherH6908 the lambs with his armH2220, and carryH5375 them in his bosomH2436; he will gently leadH5095 those that give suck. 12Who hath measuredH4058 the watersH4325 in the hollow of his hand, and meted out the heavensH8064 with [his] spanH2239, and grasped the dustH6083 of the earthH776 in a measureH4058, and weighedH8254 the mountainsH2022 in a balanceH6425, and the hillsH1389 in scales? 13Who hath directed the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah, and, [as] his counsellor, hath taught him? 14With whom took he counselH3289, and [who] gaveH995 him intelligence, and instructed him in the pathH734 of judgmentH4941, and taughtH3925 him knowledgeH1847, and shewed him the wayH1870 of understandingH8394? 15Behold, the nationsH1471 are esteemedH2803 as a drop of the bucket, and as the fineH1851 dust on the scales; behold, he taketh up the isles as an atom. 16And LebanonH3844 is not sufficient to burnH1197, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering. 17All the nationsH1471 are as nothingH369 before him; they are esteemedH2803 by him less than a cipher, and vanity. 18To whom then will ye likenH1819 5GodH410? and what likenessH1823 will ye compare unto him? 19The workman casteth a graven imageH6459, and the goldsmithH6884 spreadeth it over with goldH2091, and casteth silverH3701 chains [for it]. 20He that is impoverished, so that he hath no offering, chooseth a treeH6086 that doth not rotH7537; he seeketh unto him a skilled workman to prepareH3559 a graven imageH6459 that shall not be moved. 21— Do ye not knowH3045? Have ye not heardH8085? Hath it not been toldH5046 you from the beginning? Have ye not understoodH995 the foundation of the earthH776? 22[It is] he that sitteth upon the circleH2329 of the earthH776, and the inhabitantsH3427 thereof are as grasshoppersH2284; that stretcheth out the heavensH8064 as a gauze curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tentH168 to dwellH3427 in; 23that bringeth the princes to nothingH369, that maketh the judgesH8199 of the earthH776 as vanity. 24Scarcely are they plantedH5193, scarcely are they sownH2232, scarcely hath their stock takenH5375 rootH8327 in the earthH776, but he alsoH1571 bloweth upon them and they witherH3001, and the whirlwind taketh them awayH5375 as stubbleH7179. 25To whom then will ye likenH1819 me, or shall I be equal? saith the HolyH6918 OneH6918. 26LiftH5375 up your eyesH5869 on highH4791, and seeH7200! Who hath createdH1254 these thingsH428, bringing out their hostH6635 by numberH4557? He calleth them all by nameH8034; through the greatnessH7230 of his might and strengthH3581 of powerH3581, not oneH376 faileth. 27WhyH4100 sayest thou, JacobH3290, and speakest, O IsraelH3478, My wayH1870 is hidH5641 from Jehovah, and my rightH4941 is passedH5674 awayH5674 from my 6GodH430? 28Dost thou not knowH3045, hast thou not heardH8085, that the everlasting 7GodH430, Jehovah, the Creator of the endsH7098 of the earthH776, fainteth not nor tireth? There is no searchingH2714 of his understandingH8394. 29He giveth powerH3581 to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strengthH3581. 30Even the youthsH5288 shall faint and shall tire, and the youngH5288 menH5288 shall stumbleH3782 and fall; 31but they that waitH6960 upon Jehovah shall renew [their] strengthH3581: they shall mount up with wingsH83 as eaglesH5404; they shall runH7323, and not tire; they shall walk, and not faint.
