Isaiah 29
Darby Bible
1WoeH1945 to ArielH740, to ArielH740, the city of David's encampment! AddH5595 ye yearH8141 to yearH8141; let the feastsH2282 come roundH5362. 2But I will distressH6693 ArielH740, and there shall beH1961 sorrow and sadness; and it shall beH1961 unto me as an ArielH740. 3And I will campH2583 against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with watch-posts, and I will raiseH6965 forts against thee. 4And thou shalt beH1961 brought lowH8213, thou shalt speakH1696 out of the groundH776, and thy speech shall come lowH8213 out of the dustH6083, and thy voiceH6963 shall beH1961 as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the groundH776, and thy speech shall whisperH6850 out of the dustH6083. 5And the multitudeH1995 of thine enemies shall beH1961 like small dustH80, and the multitudeH1995 of the terrible onesH6184 as chaffH4671 that passeth awayH5674; and it shall beH1961 in an instantH6621, suddenlyH6597. 6Thou shalt be visitedH6485 by Jehovah of hostsH6635 with thunderH6963 and with earthquakeH7494 and greatH1419 noise, with whirlwind and tempestH5591, and the flameH3851 of devouringH398 fireH784. 7And the multitudeH1995 of all the nationsH1471 that warH6633 against ArielH740, even all that warH6633 against her and her fortifications, and that distressH6693 her, shall beH1961 as a dreamH2472 of a nightH3915 visionH2377. 8It shall even beH1961 as when the hungryH7457 dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; and he awaketh, and his soulH5315 is emptyH7386; or as when the thirstyH6771 dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; and he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soulH5315 craveth: soH3651 shall the multitudeH1995 of all the nationsH1471 beH1961 that warH6633 against mount ZionH6726. 9Be astoundedH8539 and astonishedH8539, blindH8173 yourselves and be blindH8173! They are drunken, but not with wineH3196; they staggerH5128, but not with strongH7941 drinkH7941. 10For Jehovah hath poured out upon you a spiritH7307 of deepH8639 sleepH8639, and hath closed your eyesH5869; the prophetsH5030 and your chiefsH7218, the seersH2374, hath he coveredH3680. 11And the whole visionH2380 is becomeH1961 unto you as the wordsH1697 of a bookH5612 that is sealedH2856, which they giveH5414 to oneH2088 that can readH7121, sayingH559, ReadH7121 this, I pray thee; and he saith, I cannot, for it is sealedH2856. 12And they giveH5414 the bookH5612 to him that cannot readH7121, sayingH559, ReadH7121 this, I pray thee; and he saith, I cannot readH7121. 13And the LordH136 saith, Forasmuch as this peopleH5971 drawH5066 near with their mouthH6310, and honour me with their lipsH8193, but their heartH3820 is removedH7368 farH7368 from me, and their fearH3373 of me is a commandmentH4687 taughtH3925 of menH376; 14thereforeH3651, behold, I will proceed to do marvellously with this peopleH5971, to do marvellously, even with wonder, and the wisdomH2451 of their wiseH2450 [men] shall perishH6, and the understandingH995 of their intelligent ones shall be hidH5641. 15WoeH1945 unto them that hideH5641 deepH6009, far from Jehovah, their counselH6098! And their worksH4639 are in the darkH4285, and they sayH559, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? 16[Oh] your perverseness! — Shall the potterH3335 be esteemedH2803 as the clay, so that the workH4639 should sayH559 of him that madeH6213 it, He madeH6213 me not; or the thing formedH3335 sayH559 of him that formedH3335 it, He hath no understandingH995? 17Is it not yetH5750 a very littleH4592 while, and LebanonH3844 shall be turnedH7725 into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemedH2803 as a forestH3293? 18And in that dayH3117 shall the deafH2795 hearH8085 the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612, and, out of obscurity and out of darknessH2822, the eyesH5869 of the blindH5787 shall seeH7200; 19and the meek shall increaseH3254 their joyH8057 in Jehovah, and the needyH34 among menH120 shall rejoiceH1523 in the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478. 20For the terrible one shall comeH3615 to nought, and the scorner shall be no more, and all that watchH8245 for iniquity shall be cutH3772 off, 21that make a manH120 an offender for a wordH1697, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gateH8179, and pervert [the judgment of] the righteousH6662 by futility. 22ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah who redeemedH6299 AbrahamH85, concerningH413 the houseH1004 of JacobH3290: JacobH3290 shall not nowH6258 be ashamedH954, neither shall his faceH6440 nowH6258 be pale; 23for when he seeth his childrenH3206, the workH4639 of my handsH3027, in the midstH7130 of him, they shall hallow my nameH8034, and hallow the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of JacobH3290, and shall fear the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 24And they that are of erring spiritH7307 shall knowH3045 understandingH998, and the disobedient shall learnH3925 doctrine.
