Isaiah 3

Darby Bible

1For behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635, will take awayH5493 from JerusalemH3389 and from JudahH3063 stay and staffH4938, the whole stay of breadH3899, and the whole stay of waterH4325, 2the mightyH1368 manH376 and the manH376 of warH4421, the judgeH8199 and the prophetH5030, and the divinerH7080 and the elderH2205, 3the captain of fiftyH2572, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the clever among artificers, and the oneH5375 versed in enchantments. 4And I will appoint youthsH5288 as their princesH8269, and children shall ruleH4910 over them. 5And the peopleH5971 shall be oppressed oneH376 by the other, and each by his neighbour; the child will be insolent against the elderH2205, and the base against the honourable. 6When a manH376 shall take hold of his brotherH251, in his father's houseH1004, [and shall say:] Thou hast clothingH8071; beH1961 our chief, and let this ruin beH1961 under thy handH3027; 7he will liftH5375 up [his hand] in that dayH3117, sayingH559, I cannot beH1961 a healer, and in my houseH1004 there is neither breadH3899 nor clothingH8071; ye shall not makeH7760 me a chief of the peopleH5971. 8For JerusalemH3389 stumbleth and JudahH3063 falleth, because their tongueH3956 and their doings are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyesH5869 of his gloryH3519. 9The look of their faceH6440 doth witness against them, and they declareH5046 their sinH2403 as SodomH5467: they hideH3582 it not. WoeH188 unto their soulH5315! for they have brought evilH7451 upon themselves. 10SayH559 ye of the righteousH6662 that it shall be well [with him], for they shall eatH398 the fruitH6529 of their doings. 11WoeH188 unto the wickedH7563! it shall be ill [with him], because the desert of his handsH3027 shall be rendered unto him. 12[As for] my peopleH5971, children are their oppressorsH5065, and womenH802 ruleH4910 over them. My peopleH5971! they that guide thee misleadH8582 [thee], and destroy the wayH1870 of thy pathsH734. 13Jehovah setteth himself to plead, and standeth to judgeH1777 the peoplesH5971. 14Jehovah will enter into judgmentH4941 with the eldersH2205 of his peopleH5971 and their princesH8269, [saying:] It is ye that have eaten up the vineyardH3754: the spoil of the poorH6041 is in your housesH1004. 15What mean ye that ye crushH1792 my peopleH5971, and grindH2912 the facesH6440 of the afflictedH6041? saith the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635. 16And Jehovah saidH559, Because the daughtersH1323 of ZionH6726 are haughty, and walkH1980 with stretched-outH5186 neckH1627 and wanton eyesH5869, and goH1980 along mincing, and making a tinkling with their feetH7272; 17therefore the Lord will make bald the crown of the head of the daughtersH1323 of ZionH6726, and Jehovah will lay bareH6168 their secret parts. 18In that dayH3117 the LordH136 will take awayH5493 the ornament of anklets, and the little suns and crescents, 19the pearl-drops, and the bracelets, and the veils, 20the head-dresses, and the stepping chains, and the girdles, and the scent-boxes, and the amulets; 21the finger-rings, and the nose-rings; 22the festival-robes, and the tunics, and the mantles, and the wallets; 23the mirrors, and the fine linenH5466 bodices, and the turbansH6797, and the flowing veils. 24And it shall come to pass, instead of perfume there shall beH1961 rottenness; and instead of a girdle, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldnessH7144; and instead of a robe of display, a girding of sackclothH8242; brand instead of beautyH3308. 25Thy men shall fallH5307 by the swordH2719, and thy mightyH1369 in the fight; 26and her gates shall lamentH578 and mournH56; and, stripped, she shall sitH3427 upon the groundH776.
