Isaiah 14

Darby Bible

1For Jehovah will have mercyH7355 on JacobH3290, and will yetH5750 chooseH977 IsraelH3478, and set them in rest in their own landH127; and the stranger shall be united to them, and they shall be joined to the houseH1004 of JacobH3290. 2And the peoplesH5971 shall takeH3947 them and bringH935 them to their placeH4725; and the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 shall possessH5157 them in the landH127 of Jehovah for servantsH5650 and handmaids; and they shall takeH3947 them captiveH7617 whose captivesH7617 they wereH1961, and they shall ruleH7287 over their oppressorsH5065. 3And it shall come to pass in the dayH3117 that Jehovah shall giveH5117 thee restH5117 from thy sorrow and from thy trouble and from the hardH7186 bondage wherein thou wast made to serveH5647, 4that thou shalt takeH5375 up this proverbH4912 against the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and sayH559, HowH349 hath the oppressorH5065 ceased, — the exactress of gold ceased! 5Jehovah hath brokenH7665 the staffH4294 of the wickedH7563, the sceptre of the rulersH4910. 6He that smote the peoplesH5971 in wrathH5678 with a relentless stroke, he that ruled the nationsH1471 in angerH639, is persecuted unsparingly. 7The whole earthH776 is at restH5117, is quietH8252: they breakH6476 forthH6476 into singing. 8Even the cypressesH1265 rejoiceH8055 at thee, the cedarsH730 of LebanonH3844, [saying,] Since thou art laidH7901 downH7901, no feller is comeH5927 up against us. 9SheolH7585 from beneath is moved for thee to meet [thee] at thy comingH935, stirring up the dead for thee, all the he-goats of the earthH776; making to riseH6965 from their thronesH3678 all the kingsH4428 of the nationsH1471. 10All of them shall answerH6030 and sayH559 unto thee, Art thou alsoH1571 become powerless as we; art thou become like unto us! 11— Thy pomp is broughtH3381 downH3381 to SheolH7585, the noise of thy lyres: the maggotH7415 is spreadH3331 under thee, and wormsH8438 cover thee. 12HowH349 art thou fallenH5307 from heavenH8064, Lucifer, sonH1121 of the morning! Thou art cutH1438 down to the groundH776, that didst prostrate the nationsH1471! 13And thou that didst sayH559 in thy heartH3824, I will ascend into the heavensH8064, I will exaltH7311 my throneH3678 above the starsH3556 of 1GodH410, and I will sitH3427 upon the mount of assembly, in the recesses of the northH6828; 14I will ascend above the heights of the cloudsH5645, I will be like the Most HighH1116: 15none the less art thou broughtH3381 downH3381 to SheolH7585, to the recesses of the pitH953. 16They that seeH7200 thee shall narrowly lookH7200 upon thee; they shall considerH7200 thee, [saying,] Is this the manH376 that made the earthH776 to trembleH7264, that shookH7493 kingdomsH4467; 17[that] madeH7760 the worldH8398 as a wildernessH4057, and overthrew the citiesH5892 thereof; [that] dismissed not his prisonersH615 homewards? 18— All the kingsH4428 of the nationsH1471, all of them, lieH7901 in gloryH3519, every oneH376 in his own houseH1004; 19but thou art castH7993 out of thy graveH6913 like an abominable branchH5342, covered with the slainH2026 — those thrust through with the swordH2719, that goH3381 down to the stonesH68 of the pitH953: like a carcase troddenH947 under foot. 20Thou shalt not be joined with them in burialH6900; for thou hast destroyedH7843 thy landH776, hast slainH2026 thy peopleH5971. Of the seedH2233 of evildoers no mention shall be made for everH5769. 21PrepareH3559 ye slaughter for his children, because of the iniquityH5771 of their fathersH1; that they may not riseH6965 up and possessH3423 the earthH776, nor fillH4390 the faceH6440 of the worldH8398 with citiesH5892. 22For I will riseH6965 up against them, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, and cutH3772 off from BabylonH894 nameH8034 and remnantH7605, and scion and descendant, saith Jehovah. 23And I will makeH7760 it a possession for the bittern, and poolsH98 of waterH4325; and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635. 24Jehovah of hostsH6635 hath swornH7650 sayingH559, Assuredly as I have thought, soH3651 shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, it shall standH6965: 25to breakH7665 the Assyrian in my landH776; and upon my mountainsH2022 will I treadH947 him under foot; and his yokeH5923 shall departH5493 from off them, and his burdenH5448 departH5493 from off their shouldersH7926. 26This is the counselH6098 which is purposed concerning the whole earthH776; and this is the handH3027 which is stretchedH5186 out upon all the nationsH1471. 27For Jehovah of hostsH6635 hath purposed, and who shall frustrate [it]? And his handH3027 is stretchedH5186 out, and who shall turnH7725 it backH7725? 28In the yearH8141 of the deathH4194 of kingH4428 AhazH271 wasH1961 this burdenH4853: 29RejoiceH8055 not thou, PhilistiaH6429, all of thee, because the rodH7626 that smote thee is brokenH7665; for out of the serpent's rootH8328 shall comeH3318 forthH3318 a viper, and his fruitH6529 shall be a fiery flying serpent. 30And the firstbornH1060 of the poor shall feedH7462, and the needyH34 shall lieH7257 down in safety; but I will killH2026 thy rootH8328 with famineH7458, and thy remnantH7611 shall be slainH2026. 31Howl, O gateH8179! cryH2199, O cityH5892! thou, PhilistiaH6429, art wholly dissolved; for there cometh from the northH6828 a smokeH6227, and none remaineth apart in his gatherings [of troops]. 32And what shall be answeredH6030 to the messengersH4397 of the nationH1471? That Jehovah hath foundedH3245 ZionH6726, and the afflictedH6041 of his peopleH5971 find refugeH2620 in it.
