Isaiah 5
Darby Bible
1I will singH7891 to my well-belovedH3039 a songH7892 of my beloved touching his vineyardH3754: My well-belovedH3039 had a vineyardH3754 upon a fruitful hill. 2And he dug it, and gathered out the stonesH5619 thereof, and plantedH5193 it with the choicest vine; and he builtH1129 a towerH4026 in the midstH8432 of it, and alsoH1571 hewed out a winepressH3342 therein; and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, but it brought forth wild grapes. 3And nowH6258, inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 and menH376 of JudahH3063, judgeH8199, I pray you, between me and my vineyardH3754. 4What was there yetH5750 to do to my vineyardH3754 that I have not done in it? Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? — 5And nowH6258, let me tell you what I am about to do to my vineyardH3754: I will take awayH5493 its hedgeH4881, and it shall beH1961 eaten up; I will breakH6555 down its wallH1447, and it shall beH1961 trodden under foot; 6and I will makeH7896 it a waste — it shall not be prunedH2168 nor cultivated, but there shall comeH5927 up briars and thorns; and I will commandH6680 the cloudsH5645 that they rainH4306 no rainH4306 upon it. 7For the vineyardH3754 of Jehovah of hostsH6635 is the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, and the menH376 of JudahH3063 the plant of his delightH8191: and he looked for justiceH4941, and behold, blood-shedding; for righteousnessH6666, and behold, a cryH6818. 8WoeH1945 unto them that add houseH1004 to houseH1004, that join fieldH7704 to fieldH7704, until there is no more room, and that ye dwellH3427 yourselves aloneH905 in the midstH7130 of the landH776! 9In mine earsH241 Jehovah of hostsH6635 [hath said], ManyH7227 housesH1004 shall assuredly becomeH1961 a desolationH8047, greatH1419 and excellent ones, without inhabitantH3427. 10Yea, tenH6235 acres of vineyardH3754 shall yield oneH259 bathH1324, and a homer of seedH2233 shall yield an ephahH374. 11WoeH1945 unto them that, risingH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, run after strongH7941 drinkH7941; that linger till twilightH5399, [till] wineH3196 inflameth them! 12And harpH3658 and lyre, tambour and fluteH2485, and wineH3196 are in their banquets; but they regard not the workH4639 of Jehovah, nor do they seeH7200 the operation of his handsH3027. 13ThereforeH3651 my peopleH5971 are led away captive from lack of knowledgeH1847, and their nobility die of famineH7458, and their multitudeH1995 are parched with thirstH6772. 14ThereforeH3651 doth SheolH7585 enlargeH7337 its desireH5315, and openH7337 its mouthH6310 without measure; and her splendour shall descend [into it], and her multitudeH1995, and her tumultH1995, and [all] that is joyful within her. 15And the mean manH376 shall be bowedH7817 downH7817, and the great manH376 brought lowH8213, and the eyesH5869 of the lofty shall be brought lowH8213; 16and Jehovah of hostsH6635 shall be exaltedH1361 in judgmentH4941, and the holyH6918 1GodH410 hallowed in righteousnessH6666. 17And the lambsH3532 shall feed as on their pastureH1699, and the wasteH2723 placesH2723 of the fat ones shall strangers eatH398. 18WoeH1945 unto them that drawH4900 iniquityH5771 with cordsH5688 of vanityH7723, and sinH2403 as with cart-ropes! 19who sayH559, Let him hastenH4116, let him speed his workH4639, that we may seeH7200 [it]; and let the counselH6098 of the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478 drawH7126 nigh and comeH935, that we may knowH3045 it! 20WoeH1945 unto them who call evilH7451 goodH2896, and goodH2896 evilH7451; who putH7760 darknessH2822 for lightH216, and lightH216 for darknessH2822; who putH7760 bitterH4751 for sweetH4966, and sweetH4966 for bitterH4751! 21WoeH1945 unto them that are wiseH2450 in their own eyesH5869, and intelligent in their own esteem! 22WoeH1945 unto them that are mightyH1368 for drinkingH8354 wineH3196, and menH376 valiant to mix strongH7941 drinkH8354; 23who justifyH6663 the wickedH7563 for a bribeH7810, and turnH5493 awayH5493 the righteousnessH6666 of the righteousH6662 from them! 24ThereforeH3651 as a tongueH3956 of fireH784 devoureth the stubbleH7179, and dryH2842 grassH2842 sinketh down in the flameH3852, their rootH8328 shall beH1961 as rottenness, and their blossomH6525 shall goH5927 up as dustH80; for they have rejectedH3988 the lawH8451 of Jehovah of hostsH6635, and despised the wordH565 of the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478. 25ThereforeH3651 is the angerH639 of Jehovah kindled against his peopleH5971, and he hath stretchedH5186 out his handH3027 against them and hath smitten them; and the mountainsH2022 trembledH7264, and their carcases are becomeH1961 as dung in the midstH7130 of the streetsH2351. For all this his angerH639 is not turnedH7725 awayH7725, and his handH3027 is stretchedH5186 out stillH5750. 26And he will liftH5375 up a banner to the nationsH1471 afarH7350 off, and will hissH8319 for one from the endH7097 of the earthH776; and behold, it will comeH935 rapidly [and] lightly. 27None among them is wearyH5889, none stumbleth; they slumberH5123 not, nor sleepH3462; none hath the girdle of his loinsH2504 loosed, nor the thongH8288 of his sandalsH5275 broken; 28their arrowsH2671 are sharp, and all their bowsH7198 bentH1869; their horses' hoofsH6541 are reckonedH2803 as the flint, and their wheelsH1534 as a whirlwind. 29Their roaringH7580 is like a lionessH3833, they roarH7580 as the youngH3715 lionsH3715; yea, they growlH5098, and snatch the preyH2964, and carry it awayH5337 safe, and there is none to deliverH5337; 30and they shall roar against them in that dayH3117 like the roaring of the seaH3220. And if one look upon the earthH776, behold darknessH2822 [and] distressH6862, and the lightH216 is darkened in the heavens thereof.
