Isaiah 22
Darby Bible
1The burdenH4853 of the valleyH1516 of visionH2384. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly goneH5927 up to the housetops? 2Thou that wast fullH4395 of stir, a townH7151 of tumult, a joyous cityH5892: thy slainH2491 men are not slainH2491 with the swordH2719, nor deadH4191 in battleH4421. 3All thy rulersH7101 have fledH1272 togetherH3162, they are taken prisonersH631 without the bowH7198: all that are foundH4672 of thee are made prisonersH631 togetherH3162; they were fleeingH1272 farH7350 off. 4ThereforeH3651 saidH559 I, LookH8159 away from me; let me weepH1065 bitterly: labour not to comfortH5162 me, because of the spoiling of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971. 5For it is a dayH3117 of trouble, and of treading down, and of perplexity, from the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635, in the valleyH1516 of visionH2384; [a dayH3117 of] breaking down the wallH7023, and of crying to the mountainH2022: 6— ElamH5867 beareth the quiverH827 with chariotsH7393 of menH120 [and] horsemenH6571; and KirH7024 uncovereth the shieldH4043. 7And it shall come to pass [that] thy choicest valleysH6010 shall beH1961 fullH4390 of chariotsH7393, and the horsemenH6571 shall setH7896 themselves in array at the gateH8179. 8And he uncovereth the coveringH4539 of JudahH3063: and thou didst lookH5027 in that dayH3117 to the armour in the houseH1004 of the forestH3293; 9and ye have seenH7200 the breaches of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, that they are manyH7235; and ye have gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 the watersH4325 of the lower poolH1295; 10and ye have numbered the housesH1004 of JerusalemH3389, and have brokenH5422 down the housesH1004 to fortifyH1219 the wallH2346; 11and ye have madeH6213 a reservoir between the twoH2346 wallsH2346 for the waterH4325 of the oldH3465 poolH1295: but ye have not had regard unto the maker thereof, neither have ye lookedH7200 unto him that fashioned it long ago. 12And in that dayH3117 did the LordH136 Jehovah of hostsH6635 callH7121 to weepingH1065, and to mourningH4553, and to baldnessH7144, and to girding with sackclothH8242; 13and behold joyH8057 and rejoicing, slaying oxenH1241, and killingH2026 sheepH6629, eatingH398 fleshH1320, and drinkingH8354 wineH3196: — Let us eatH398 and drinkH8354, for to-morrow we dieH4191. 14And it was revealedH1540 in mine earsH241 by Jehovah of hostsH6635: Assuredly this iniquityH5771 shall not be purged from you till ye dieH4191, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635. 15ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah of hostsH6635: GoH935, get thee in unto this steward, unto ShebnaH7644, who is over the houseH1004, [and sayH559,] 16What hast thou hereH6311? and whom hast thou hereH6311, that thou hast hewn thee out a sepulchre hereH6311, [as] he that heweth out his sepulchre on highH4791, cutting out in the rockH5553 a habitation for himself? 17Behold, Jehovah will hurl thee with the force of a mighty manH1397, and will coverH5844 thee entirely. 18Rolling thee up completely, he will roll thee as a ball into a wideH7342 country: there shalt thou dieH4191, and there shall be the chariotsH4818 of thy gloryH3519, O shameH7036 of thy lord's houseH1004! 19And I will drive thee from thine office, and from thy station will I pull thee downH2040. 20And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, that I will callH7121 my servantH5650 EliakimH471 the sonH1121 of Hilkijah; 21and I will clotheH3847 him with thy robe, and strengthenH2388 him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his handH3027; and he shall beH1961 a fatherH1 to the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, and to the houseH1004 of JudahH3063. 22And the keyH4668 of the houseH1004 of DavidH1732 will I lay upon his shoulderH7926; and he shall openH6605, and none shall shutH5462; and he shall shutH5462, and none shall openH6605. 23And I will fasten him [as] a nail in a sure placeH4725; and he shall beH1961 for a throneH3678 of gloryH3519 to his father's houseH1004: 24and they shall hangH8518 upon him all the gloryH3519 of his father's houseH1004, the offspring and the issue, all the smallH6996 vesselsH3627, as well the vesselsH3627 of cups as all the vesselsH3627 of flagons. 25In that dayH3117, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, shall the nail that is fastened in a sure placeH4725 be removedH4185, and be cutH3772 down, and fallH5307; and the burdenH4853 that was upon it shall be cutH3772 off: for Jehovah hath spokenH1696.
