Isaiah 8

Darby Bible

1And Jehovah saidH559 to me, TakeH3947 thee a greatH1419 tablet, and writeH3789 thereon with a man's style, concerning Maher-shalal-hash-bazH4122. 2And I took unto me to witnessH5707, sure witnessesH5707, Urijah the priestH3548, and ZechariahH2148 the sonH1121 of Jeberechiah. 3And I came near to the prophetessH5031, and she conceivedH2029 and boreH3205 a sonH1121; and Jehovah saidH559 unto me, CallH7121 his nameH8034, Maher-shalal-hash-bazH4122. 4For before the ladH5288 knoweth to cry, My fatherH1! and, My motherH517! the riches of DamascusH1834 and the spoilH7998 of SamariaH8111 shall be takenH5375 awayH5375 before the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804. 5And Jehovah spokeH1696 againH5750 to me, sayingH559, 6Forasmuch as this peopleH5971 refuseth the watersH4325 of Shiloah which flow softly, and rejoiceth in RezinH7526 and in the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425, 7thereforeH3651 behold, the LordH136 will bringH5927 up upon them the watersH4325 of the riverH5104, strong and manyH7227, the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 and all his gloryH3519; and he shall mount up over all his channelsH650, and goH1980 over all his banksH1415: 8and he shall passH5674 through JudahH3063; he shall overflowH7857 it and go further, he shall reachH5060 even to the neckH6677; and the stretching out of his wingsH3671 shall fillH4393 the breadthH7341 of thy landH776, O Immanuel! 9Rage, ye peoplesH5971, and be broken in pieces! And giveH238 earH238, all ye distantH4801 parts of the earthH776: GirdH247 yourselves, and be broken in pieces; girdH247 yourselves, and be broken in pieces! 10Settle a planH6098, and it shall come to nought; speakH1696 a wordH1697, and it shall not standH6965: for 1GodH410 is with us. 11For Jehovah spoke thusH3541 to me with a strong handH3027, and he instructed me not to walk in the wayH1870 of this peopleH5971, sayingH559, 12Ye shall not sayH559, ConspiracyH7195, of everythingH3605 of which this peopleH5971 saith, ConspiracyH7195; and fearH3372 ye not their fearH3372, and be not in dread. 13Jehovah of hostsH6635, him shall ye sanctifyH6942; and let him be your fearH4172, and let him be your dread. 14And he will beH1961 for a sanctuaryH4720; and for a stoneH68 of stumbling, and for a rockH6697 of offence to both the housesH1004 of IsraelH3478, for a gin and for a snareH4170 to the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389. 15And manyH7227 among them shall stumbleH3782, and fallH5307, and be brokenH7665, and snared, and takenH3920. 16Bind up the testimonyH8584, sealH2856 the lawH8451 among my disciples. 17And I will waitH2442 for Jehovah, who hideth his faceH6440 from the houseH1004 of JacobH3290; and I will look for him. 18Behold, I and the childrenH3206 that Jehovah hath givenH5414 me are for signsH226 and for wondersH4159 in IsraelH3478, from Jehovah of hostsH6635, who dwelleth in mount ZionH6726. 19And when they shall sayH559 unto you, SeekH1875 unto the necromancers and unto the soothsayers, who chirp and who mutter, [sayH559,] Shall not a peopleH5971 seekH1875 unto their 2GodH430? [Will they go] for the living unto the deadH4191? 20To the lawH8451 and the testimonyH8584! If they speak not according to this wordH1697, for them there is no daybreak. 21And they shall passH5674 through it, hardH7185 pressed and hungryH7457; and it shall come to passH5674 when they are hungryH7457, they will fret themselves, and curseH7043 their kingH4428 and their 3GodH430, and will gaze upwardH4605: 22and they will look to the earthH776; and behold, troubleH6869 and darknessH2825, gloomH653 of anguish; and they shall be drivenH5080 into thick darknessH2825.
