Isaiah 10
Darby Bible
1WoeH1945 unto them that decree iniquitous decrees, and to the writers that prescribe oppression, 2to turnH5186 away the poorH6041 from judgmentH4941, and to takeH962 away the rightH4941 from the afflictedH6041 of my peopleH5971; that widowsH490 may beH1961 their prey, and that they may robH1497 the fatherlessH3490! 3And what will ye do in the dayH3117 of visitation, and in the sudden destructionH7722 [which] shall comeH935 from far? To whom will ye fleeH5127 for helpH5833, and whereH575 will ye leaveH5800 your gloryH3519? 4They can but crouch under the prisonersH616, and they shall fallH5307 under the slainH2026. For all this his angerH639 is not turnedH7725 awayH7725, and his handH3027 is stretchedH5186 out stillH5750. 5Ah! the Assyrian! the rodH7626 of mine angerH639! and the staffH4294 in their handH3027 is mine indignationH2195. 6I will sendH7971 him against a hypocritical nationH1471, and against the peopleH5971 of my wrathH5678 will I give him a charge; to take the spoilH7998, and to seize the preyH957, and to tread them down like the mire of the streetsH2351. 7But he meaneth not soH3651, neither doth his heartH3824 think soH3651; for it is in his heartH3824 to extirpate and cutH3772 off nationsH1471 not a fewH4592. 8For he saith, Are not my princesH8269 all kingsH4428? 9Is not Calno as Karkemish? Is not HamathH2574 as ArpadH774? Is not SamariaH8111 as DamascusH1834? 10As my handH3027 hath foundH4672 the kingdomsH4467 of the idolsH457, — and their graven images exceeded those of JerusalemH3389 and SamariaH8111, 11— shall I not, as I have done unto SamariaH8111 and her idolsH457, soH3651 do to JerusalemH3389 and her images? 12And it shall come to pass, when the LordH136 hath performed his whole workH4639 upon mount ZionH6726 and upon JerusalemH3389, I will punishH6485 the fruitH6529 of the stoutness of heartH3824 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and the gloryH8597 of his high looks. 13For he saith, By the strengthH3581 of my handH3027 I have done [it], and by my wisdomH2451, for I am intelligent; and I have removedH5493 the bounds of the peoplesH5971, and have robbed their treasures, and, like a valiant man, I have broughtH3381 downH3381 them that sitH3427 [on thrones]; 14and my handH3027 hath foundH4672 as a nestH7064 the riches of the peoplesH5971, and as one gathereth forsaken eggsH1000, have I gatheredH622 all the earthH776; and there wasH1961 none that moved the wingH3671, or openedH6475 the mouthH6310, or chirped. 15— Shall the axeH1631 boast itself against him that heweth therewith? shall the saw magnifyH1431 itself against him that wieldeth it? As if the rodH7626 should wieldH5130 them that liftH7311 it up; as if the staffH4294 should liftH7311 up [him who is] not woodH6086! 16ThereforeH3651 shall the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635, sendH7971 among his fat ones leanness, and under his gloryH3519 he shall kindle a burningH3344, like the burningH3344 of a fireH784: 17and the lightH216 of IsraelH3478 shall beH1961 for a fireH784, and his HolyH6918 OneH259 for a flameH3852; and it shall burnH1197 and devourH398 his thorns and his briars in oneH259 dayH3117, 18and it shall consume the gloryH3519 of his forestH3293, and of his fruitful field, both soulH5315 and bodyH1320; and they shall beH1961 as when a sick man fainteth. 19And the remainderH7605 of the treesH6086 of his forestH3293 shall beH1961 few: yea, a child might writeH3789 them. 20And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, [that] the remnantH7605 of IsraelH3478 and such as are escapedH6413 of the houseH1004 of JacobH3290 shall no more againH5750 rely upon him that smote them; but they shall rely upon Jehovah, the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478, in truthH571. 21The remnantH7605 shall returnH7725, the remnantH7605 of JacobH3290, unto the mightyH1368 1GodH410. 22For though thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 beH1961 as the sandH2344 of the seaH3220, [only] a remnantH7605 of them shall returnH7725: the consumption determined shall overflowH7857 in righteousnessH6666. 23For a consumption, and [one] determined, will the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635, accomplish in the midstH7130 of all the landH776. 24ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635: O my peopleH5971 that dwellest in ZionH6726, be not afraidH3372 of the Assyrian; he shall smite thee with a rodH7626, and shall liftH5375 up his staffH4294 against thee, after the manner of EgyptH4714: 25for yetH5750 a very littleH4592 while, and the indignationH2195 shall be accomplished, and mine angerH639, in their destruction. 26And Jehovah of hostsH6635 will stirH5782 up a scourgeH7752 against him, according to the slaughterH4347 of MidianH4080 at the rockH6697 of OrebH6159; and his rodH4294 [shall be] upon the seaH3220, and he will liftH5375 it up after the manner of EgyptH4714. 27And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, [that] his burdenH5448 shall beH1961 taken awayH5493 from off thy shoulderH7926, and his yokeH5923 from off thy neckH6677; and the yokeH5923 shall beH1961 destroyed because of the anointing. ... 28He is comeH935 to Aiath, he hath passedH5674 through MigronH4051; at Michmash he layeth up his baggage. 29They are gone through the passH5674; they make their lodging at GebaH1387: RamahH7414 trembleth, GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586 is fledH5127. 30Lift up thy voiceH6963, daughterH1323 of GallimH1554! Hearken, O Laish! — PoorH6041 AnathothH6068! 31Madmenah is fugitiveH5074; the inhabitantsH3427 of Gebim takeH5756 to flight. 32StillH5750 a dayH3117 of halting at NobH5011; he shaketh his handH3027 [against] the mount of the daughterH1323 of Zion, the hillH2022 of JerusalemH3389. ... 33Behold the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635, shall lop the boughs with violence; and the highH1364 ones of statureH6967 shall be hewn downH1438, and the haughtyH7311 shall be brought lowH8213; 34and he shall make clearings in the thicketsH5442 of the forestH3293 with ironH1270; and LebanonH3844 shall fallH5307 by a mightyH117 oneH117.
