Isaiah 28
Darby Bible
1WoeH1945 to the crownH5850 of pride of the drunkardsH7910 of EphraimH669, and to the fading flowerH6731 of his glorious adornment, which is on the headH7218 of the fat valleyH1516 of them that are overcome with wineH3196. 2Behold, the LordH136 hath a mightyH2389 and strongH2389 one, as a stormH2230 of hailH1259 [and] a destroying tempest; as a stormH2230 of mightyH2389 watersH4325 overflowingH7857, shall he cast down to the earthH776 with might. 3The crownH5850 of pride of the drunkardsH7910 of EphraimH669 shall be trodden under feetH7272; 4and the fading flower of his glorious adornment which is on the headH7218 of the fat valleyH1516 shall beH1961 like an early fig before the summerH7019: as soon as he that seeth it perceiveth it, scarcely is it in his handH3709, he swalloweth it down. 5In that dayH3117 will Jehovah of hostsH6635 beH1961 for a crownH5850 of gloryH8597, and for a diadem of beautyH8597, unto the remnantH7605 of his peopleH5971; 6and for a spiritH7307 of judgmentH4941 to him that sitteth in judgmentH4941, and for strengthH1369 to them that turnH7725 the battleH4421 to the gateH8179. 7But these alsoH1571 have erredH7686 through wineH3196, and through strongH7941 drinkH7941 are they goneH8582 astrayH8582. The priestH3548 and the prophetH5030 have erredH7686 through strongH7941 drinkH7941; they are overpowered by wineH3196, they are goneH8582 astrayH8582 through strongH7941 drinkH7941; they have erredH7686 in vision, they have stumbled [in] judgment. 8For all tablesH7979 are fullH4390 of filthy vomitH6892, so that there is no [more] placeH4725. 9Whom shall he teachH3384 knowledgeH1844? and whom shall he make to understandH995 the reportH8052? Them that are weanedH1580 from the milkH2461, withdrawn from the breastsH7699? 10For [it is] precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a littleH2191, there a littleH2191. ... 11For with stammering lipsH8193 and a strange tongueH3956 will he speakH1696 to this peopleH5971; 12to whom he saidH559, This is the restH5117: cause the wearyH5889 to restH5117; and this is the refreshing. But they wouldH14 not hearH8085. 13And the wordH1697 of Jehovah wasH1961 unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a littleH2191, there a littleH2191: that they might go, and fall backwardH268, and beH1961 brokenH7665, and snared, and takenH3920. 14ThereforeH3651 hearH8085 the wordH1697 of Jehovah, ye scornful menH376, that ruleH4910 this peopleH5971 which is in JerusalemH3389. 15For ye have saidH559, We have madeH6213 a covenantH1285 with deathH4194, and with SheolH7585 have we madeH6213 an agreement; when the overflowingH7857 scourge shall passH5674 through, it shall not comeH935 unto us; for we have madeH6213 liesH8267 our refugeH4268, and under falsehoodH8267 have we hidH5641 ourselves. 16ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: Behold, I lay for foundation in ZionH6726 a stoneH68, a tried stoneH68, a preciousH3368 corner-stone, a sure foundation: he that trusteth shall not make haste. 17And I will appointH7760 judgmentH4941 for a line, and righteousnessH6666 for a plummet; and the hailH1259 shall sweep away the refugeH4268 of liesH3577, and the watersH4325 shall overflowH7857 the hiding-place. 18And your covenantH1285 with deathH4194 shall beH1961 annulled, and your agreement with SheolH7585 shall not standH6965; when the overflowingH7857 scourgeH7752 shall passH5674 through, ye shall beH1961 trodden down by it. 19As it passeth through it shall takeH3947 you; for morningH1242 by morningH1242 shall it passH5674 through, by dayH3117 and by nightH3915; and it shall beH1961 terror onlyH7535 to understandH995 the reportH8052. 20For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on, and the covering too narrow when he would wrap himself in it. 21For Jehovah will riseH6965 up as on mount Perazim, he will be moved with anger as in the valleyH6010 of GibeonH1391; that he may do his workH4639, his strangeH2114 workH4639, and perform his actH6213, his unwonted actH6213. 22NowH6258 thereforeH6258 be ye not scorners, lestH6435 your bonds be madeH2388 strongH2388; for I have heardH8085 from the LordH136 Jehovah of hostsH6635 a consumption, and [one] determined, upon the whole landH776. 23GiveH238 earH238, and hearH8085 my voiceH6963; hearken, and hearH8085 my speech. 24Doth the ploughman plough all dayH3117 to sowH2232? Is he [all dayH3117] opening and breaking the clods of his landH127? 25Doth he not, when he hath levelled the faceH6440 thereof, cast abroad dill, and scatterH6327 cummin, and setH7760 the wheatH2406 in rows, and the barleyH8184 in an appointedH7760 placeH7760, and the rye in its border? 26His 1GodH430 doth instructH3384 him in [his] judgmentH4941, he doth teachH3384 him. 27For the dill is not threshedH1758 with a threshingH1758 instrument, neither is a cart-wheel turnedH5437 about upon the cummin; but dill is beaten out with a staffH4294, and cummin with a rodH7626. 28BreadH3899 [corn] is crushedH1854, because he will not ever be threshingH1758 it; and if he drove the wheels of his cartH5699 and his horses [over it], he would not crushH1854 it. 29This alsoH1571 cometh forthH3318 from Jehovah of hostsH6635; he is wonderfulH6381 in counselH6098, greatH1431 in wisdomH8454.
