Isaiah 40
Revised Version 1895
1ComfortH5162 ye, comfortH5162 ye my peopleH5971, saith your GodH430. 2SpeakH1696 ye comfortably to JerusalemH3389, and cryH7121 unto herH3605, that herH3605 warfareH6635 is accomplishedH4390, that herH3605 iniquityH5771 is pardoned; that sheH3588 hath receivedH3947 of the LORD’SH3068 handH3027 doubleH3718 for allH3605 herH3605 sinsH2403. 3The voiceH6963 of one that crieth, PrepareH6437 ye in the wildernessH4057 the wayH1870 of the LORDH3068, makeH3474 straightH3474 in the desertH6160 a highwayH4546 for our GodH430. 4EveryH3605 valleyH1516 shall be exaltedH5375, and everyH3605 mountainH2022 and hillH2022 shall be madeH1961 lowH8213: and the crooked shall be madeH1961 straight, and the rough placesH3605 plainH4334: 5and the gloryH3519 of the LORDH3068 shall be revealedH1540, and allH3605 fleshH1320 shall seeH7200 it togetherH3162: for the mouthH6310 of the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696 it. 6The voiceH6963 of one sayingH559, CryH7121. And one saidH559, WhatH4100 shall I cryH7121? AllH3605 fleshH1320 is grassH2682, and allH3605 the goodliness thereof is as the flowerH6731 of the fieldH7704: 7The grassH2682 withereth, the flowerH6731 fadeth; becauseH3588 the breathH7307 of the LORDH3068 bloweth uponH7307 it: surelyH3588 the peopleH5971 is grassH2682. 8The grassH2682 withereth, the flowerH6731 fadeth: but the wordH1697 of our GodH430 shall standH6965 for everH5769. 9O thou that tellest goodH1319 tidingsH1319 to ZionH6726, getH5927 thee upH5927 intoH5921 the highH1364 mountainH2022: O thou that tellest goodH1319 tidingsH1319 to JerusalemH3389, liftH7311 upH5927 thy voiceH6963 with strengthH3581; liftH7311 it upH5927, be notH408 afraidH3372; sayH559 unto the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, BeholdH2009, your GodH430! 10BeholdH2009, the LordH136 GODH136 will comeH935 as a mightyH2389 one, and his armH2220 shall ruleH4910 for him: beholdH2009, his rewardH7939 is with him, and his recompence beforeH6440 him. 11He shall feedH7462 his flockH5739 like a shepherdH7462, he shall gatherH6908 the lambsH5763 in his armH2220, and carryH5375 them in his bosomH2436, and shall gently leadH5095 those that giveH5375 suck. 12Who hath measuredH4058 the watersH4325 in the hollowH8168 of his handH8168, and metedH8505 outH8254 heavenH8064 with the spanH2239, and comprehended the dustH6083 of the earthH776 in a measureH4058, and weighedH8254 the mountainsH2022 in scalesH3976, and the hillsH1389 in a balanceH6425? 13Who hath directedH3045 the spiritH7307 of the LORDH3068, or being his counsellor hath taughtH3045 him? 14With whomH4310 tookH3045 he counselH3289, and who instructedH3045 him, and taughtH3925 him in the pathH734 of judgmentH4941, and taughtH3925 him knowledgeH1847, and shewed to him the wayH1870 of understandingH8394? 15BeholdH2005, the nationsH1471 are as a dropH4752 of a bucketH1805, and are countedH2803 as the small dustH7834 of the balanceH3976: beholdH2005, he taketh up the islesH339 as a very little thing. 16And LebanonH3844 is notH369 sufficientH1767 to burnH1197, norH369 the beastsH2416 thereof sufficientH1767 for a burntH5930 offering. 17AllH3605 the nationsH1471 are as nothingH369 beforeH5048 him; they are countedH2803 to him lessH657 thanH3605 nothingH369, and vanity. 18To whomH4310 then will ye likenH1819 GodH410? or whatH4100 likenessH1823 will ye compareH1819 unto him? 19The gravenH6459 imageH6459, a workman melted it, and the goldsmithH6884 spreadeth it over with goldH2091, and casteth for it silverH3701 chainsH7577. 20He that is tooH3808 impoverished for suchH3808 an oblation chooseth a treeH6086 that will notH3808 rotH7537; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to setH3559 up a gravenH6459 imageH6459, that shall notH3808 be movedH4131. 21Have ye notH3808 knownH3045? have ye notH3808 heardH8085? hath it notH3808 been toldH5046 youH3045 from the beginningH7218? have ye notH3808 understoodH995 from the foundationsH4146 of the earthH776? 22It is he that sitteth uponH5921 the circleH2329 of the earthH776, and the inhabitantsH3427 thereof are as grasshoppersH2284; that stretcheth outH5186 the heavensH8064 as a curtainH1852, and spreadeth them outH5186 as a tentH168 to dwellH3427 in: 23that bringeth princes to nothingH369; he maketh the judgesH8199 of the earthH776 as vanity. 24Yea, they have notH1571 been plantedH5193; yea, they have notH1571 been sownH2232; yea, their stockH1503 hath notH1571 takenH5375 rootH8327 in the earthH776: moreoverH1571 he bloweth upon them, and they witherH3001, and the whirlwind taketh them awayH5375 as stubbleH7179. 25To whomH4310 then will ye likenH1819 meH413, that I should be equalH1819 to him? saith the HolyH6918 One. 26LiftH5375 upH5375 your eyesH5869 on highH4791, and seeH7200 who hath createdH1254 theseH428, that bringeth outH3318 their hostH6635 by numberH4557: he calleth them allH3605 by nameH8034; by the greatnessH7230 of his might, and for that he is strongH3581 in powerH3581, notH3808 one is lacking. 27WhyH4100 sayest thou, O JacobH3290, and speakest, O IsraelH3478, My wayH1870 is hidH5641 from the LORDH3068, and my judgmentH4941 is passedH5674 awayH5674 from my GodH430? 28Hast thou notH3808 knownH3045? hast thou notH3808 heardH8085? the everlastingH5769 GodH430, the LORDH3068, the Creator of the endsH7098 of the earthH776, fainteth notH3808, neitherH3808 is wearyH3021; there is noH3808 searchingH2714 of his understandingH8394. 29He giveth powerH3581 to the faintH3287; and to him that hath noH369 might he increaseth strengthH3581. 30Even the youthsH5288 shall faint and be wearyH3021, and the youngH5288 menH5288 shall utterly fallH3782: 31but they that waitH6960 upon the LORDH3068 shall renew their strengthH3581; they shall mountH5927 upH5927 with wingsH83 as eaglesH5404; they shall runH7323, and notH3808 be wearyH3021; they shall walk, and notH3808 faint.
