Isaiah 24

Darby Bible

1Behold, Jehovah maketh the landH776 empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside downH3427, and scattereth abroad its inhabitantsH3427. 2And it shall beH1961, as with the peopleH5971, so with the priestH3548; as with the servantH5650, so with his masterH113; as with the maid, so with her mistressH1404; as with the buyerH7069, so with the sellerH4376; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with him from whom usury is taken. 3The landH776 shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled; for Jehovah hath spokenH1696 this wordH1697. 4The landH776 mourneth, it fadeth away; the worldH8398 languisheth, it fadeth away: the haughty peopleH5971 of the landH776 do languishH535. 5And the landH776 is pollutedH2610 under the inhabitantsH3427 thereof; for they have violated the lawsH8451, changedH2498 the statuteH2706, brokenH6565 the everlasting covenantH1285. 6ThereforeH3651 doth the curseH423 devourH398 the earthH776, and they that dwellH3427 therein are held guiltyH816; thereforeH3651 the inhabitantsH3427 of the earthH776 are consumedH398, and few men are leftH7604. 7The newH8492 wineH8492 mourneth, the vineH1612 languisheth, all that were merry-hearted do sigh; 8the mirth of tambours ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joyH4885 of the harpH3658 ceaseth. 9They do not drinkH8354 wineH3196 with a songH7892; strongH7941 drinkH8354 is bitterH4843 to them that drinkH8354 it. 10The city of solitude is brokenH7665 downH7665; every houseH1004 is shutH5462 up, so that none entereth in. 11There is a crying for wineH3196 in the streetsH2351; all joyH8057 is darkened, the mirth of the landH776 is goneH1540; 12desolationH8047 remaineth in the cityH5892, and the gateH8179 is smitten, — a ruin. 13For so will it beH1961 in the midstH8432 of the landH776 among the peoplesH5971, as the shaking of an olive-tree, as the grape-gleanings when the vintage is done. 14These shall liftH5375 up their voiceH6963, they shall shoutH7442 for the majesty of Jehovah, they shall cry aloudH7442 from the seaH3220. 15ThereforeH3651 glorifyH3513 Jehovah in the east, the nameH8034 of Jehovah, the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478, in the isles of the westH3220. 16From the end of the earthH776 have we heardH8085 songsH2158: Glory to the righteousH6662! And I saidH559, My leanness, my leanness, woeH188 unto me! The treacherousH898 have dealtH898 treacherouslyH898; yea, the treacherousH898 have dealtH898 very treacherouslyH898. 17FearH6343, and the pitH6354, and the snareH6341 are upon thee, inhabitantH3427 of the landH776. 18And it shall come to pass, [that] he who fleeth from the soundH6963 of the fearH6343 shall fallH5307 into the pitH6354; and he that cometh up out of the midstH8432 of the pitH6354 shall beH1961 takenH3920 in the snareH6341; for the windowsH699 on highH4791 are openH6605, and the foundationsH4146 of the earthH776 shakeH7493. 19The earthH776 is utterly brokenH6565 down, the earthH776 is completely dissolved, the earthH776 is violently moved. 20The earthH776 reeleth to and fro like a drunkardH7910, and is shakenH5128 like a night hutH4412; and its transgressionH6588 is heavyH3513 upon it; and it falleth and shall not riseH6965 again. 21And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, [that] Jehovah will punishH6485 the hostH6635 of the highH4791 ones on highH4791, and the kingsH4428 of the earthH127 upon the earthH127. 22And they shall be brought together, [as] an assemblage of prisonersH616 for the pitH953, and shall be shutH5462 up in prisonH4525, and after many daysH3117 shall they be visitedH6485. 23And the moonH3842 shall be confounded, and the sunH2535 ashamedH954; for Jehovah of hostsH6635 shall reignH4427 on mount ZionH6726, and in JerusalemH3389, and before his ancients in gloryH3519.
