Genesis 44
1And he commandedH6680 the steward of his houseH1004, sayingH559, FillH4390 the men’sH376 sacksH572 with foodH400, as much as they can carryH5375, and putH7760 every man’sH376 moneyH3701 in his sack’s mouthH6310. 2And putH7760 my cupH1375, the silverH3701 cupH1375, in the sack’s mouthH6310 of the youngestH6996, and his grainH7668 moneyH3701. And he did according to the wordH1697 that JosephH3130 had spokenH1696. 3As soon as the morningH1242 was lightH215, the menH376 were sentH7971 awayH7971, they and their asses. 4And whenH834 they were goneH3318 out of the cityH5892, and were not yet farH7368 off, JosephH3130 saidH559 unto his steward, Up, follow after the menH376; and whenH834 thou dost overtakeH5381 them, sayH559 unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evilH7451 for goodH2896? 5Is not this that in which my lordH113 drinketh, and whereby he indeedH5172 divineth? ye have done evilH7489 in so doing. 6And he overtookH5381 them, and he spake unto them these wordsH1697. 7And they saidH559 unto him, Wherefore speaketh my lordH113 such wordsH1697 as these? FarH2486 be it from thy servantsH5650 that they should do such a thingH1697. 8Behold, the moneyH3701, which we foundH4672 in our sacks’ mouthsH6310, we broughtH7725 again unto thee out of the landH776 of CanaanH3667: howH349 then should we stealH1589 out of thy lord’sH113 houseH1004 silverH3701 or goldH2091? 9With whomsoever of thy servantsH5650 it beH1961 foundH4672, let him dieH4191, and we alsoH1571 will beH1961 my lord’sH113 bondmen. 10And he saidH559, NowH6258 alsoH1571 let it beH1961 according unto your wordsH1697: he with whom it is foundH4672 shall beH1961 my bondman; and ye shall beH1961 blameless. 11Then they hasted, and took down every manH376 his sackH572 to the groundH776, and openedH6605 every manH376 his sackH572. 12And he searchedH2664, and beganH2490 at the eldest, and left off at the youngestH6996: and the cupH1375 was foundH4672 in Benjamin’s sackH572. 13Then they rent their clothesH8071, and laded every manH376 his ass, and returnedH7725 to the cityH5892.
14And JudahH3063 and his brethren cameH935 to Joseph’sH3130 houseH1004; and he was yetH5750 there: and they fellH5307 before him on the groundH776. 15And JosephH3130 saidH559 unto them, What deedH4639 is this that ye have done? knowH3045 ye not that such a manH376 as I can indeed divine? 16And JudahH3063 saidH559, What shall we sayH559 unto my lordH113? what shall we speakH1696? or howH4100 shall we clear ourselves? GodH430 hath foundH4672 out the iniquityH5771 of thy servantsH5650: behold, we are my lord’sH113 bondmen, both we, and he alsoH1571 in whose handH3027 the cupH1375 is foundH4672. 17And he saidH559, FarH2486 beH1961 it from me that I should do so: the manH376 in whose handH3027 the cupH1375 is foundH4672, he shall beH1961 my bondman; but as for you, get you up in peaceH7965 unto your fatherH1.
18Then JudahH3063 came near unto him, and saidH559, Oh, my lordH113, let thy servantH5650, I pray thee, speakH1696 a wordH1697 in my lord’sH113 earsH241, and let not thine angerH639 burnH2734 against thy servantH5650; for thou art even as PharaohH6547. 19My lordH113 askedH7592 his servantsH5650, sayingH559, Have ye a fatherH1, or a brotherH251? 20And we saidH559 unto my lordH113, We have a fatherH1, an oldH2205 manH2205, and a childH3206 of his oldH2205 ageH2208, a littleH6996 one; and his brotherH251 is deadH4191, and he aloneH905 is leftH3498 of his motherH517; and his fatherH1 loveth him. 21And thou saidst unto thy servantsH5650, BringH3381 him downH3381 unto me, that I may setH7760 mine eyesH5869 upon him. 22And we saidH559 unto my lordH113, The ladH5288 cannot leaveH5800 his fatherH1: for if he should leaveH5800 his fatherH1, his fatherH1 would dieH4191. 23And thou saidst unto thy servantsH5650, Except your youngestH6996 brotherH251 comeH3381 down with you, ye shall seeH7200 my faceH6440 no more. 24And it came to pass when we came up unto thy servantH5650 my fatherH1, we toldH5046 him the wordsH1697 of my lordH113. 25And our fatherH1 saidH559, GoH7725 again, buyH7666 us a littleH4592 foodH400. 26And we saidH559, We cannot goH3381 down: if our youngestH6996 brotherH251 be with us, then will we goH3381 down; for we may not seeH7200 the man’sH376 faceH6440, except our youngestH6996 brotherH251 be with us. 27And thy servantH5650 my fatherH1 saidH559 unto us, Ye knowH3045 that my wifeH802 bare me twoH8147 sons: 28and the oneH259 wentH3318 out from me, and I saidH559, SurelyH389 he is tornH2963 in pieces; and I have not seenH7200 him since: 29and if ye takeH3947 this oneH2088 alsoH1571 from me, and harmH7451 befall him, ye will bringH3381 down my grayH7872 hairsH7872 with sorrow to SheolH7585. 30NowH6258 thereforeH6258 when I comeH935 to thy servantH5650 my fatherH1, and the ladH5288 is not with us; seeing that his lifeH5315 is boundH7194 up in the lad’sH5288 lifeH5315; 31it will come to pass, when he seeth that the ladH5288 is not with us, that he will dieH4191: and thy servantsH5650 will bringH3381 down the grayH7872 hairsH7872 of thy servantH5650 our fatherH1 with sorrowH3015 to SheolH7585. 32For thy servantH5650 became suretyH6148 for the ladH5288 unto my fatherH1, sayingH559, If I bringH935 him not unto thee, then shall I bear the blame to my fatherH1 for ever. 33NowH6258 thereforeH6258, let thy servantH5650, I pray thee, abide instead of the ladH5288 a bondman to my lordH113; and let the ladH5288 goH5927 up with his brethren. 34For howH349 shall I goH5927 up to my fatherH1, if the ladH5288 be not with me? lestH6435 I seeH7200 the evilH7451 that shall comeH5927 on my fatherH1.
