Genesis 26
American Standard Version
1And there wasH1961 a famineH7458 in the landH776, besides the firstH7223 famineH7458 that wasH1961 in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85. And IsaacH3327 went unto AbimelechH40 kingH4428 of the PhilistinesH6430, unto GerarH1642. 2And Jehovah appearedH7200 unto him, and saidH559, GoH3381 not downH3381 into EgyptH4714; dwellH7931 in the landH776 which I shall tell thee of: 3sojourn in this landH776, and I will beH1961 with thee, and will blessH1288 thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seedH2233, I will giveH5414 all these landsH776, and I will establishH6965 the oathH7621 which I sware unto AbrahamH85 thy fatherH1; 4and I will multiplyH7235 thy seedH2233 as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064, and will giveH5414 unto thy seedH2233 all these landsH776; and in thy seedH2233 shall all the nationsH1471 of the earthH776 be blessedH1288; 5because that AbrahamH85 obeyed my voiceH6963, and keptH8104 my chargeH4931, my commandmentsH4687, my statutesH2708, and my lawsH8451. 6And IsaacH3327 dweltH3427 in GerarH1642: 7and the menH376 of the placeH4725 askedH7592 him of his wifeH802; and he saidH559, She is my sisterH269: for he fearedH3372 to sayH559, My wifeH802; lestH6435, saidH559 he, the menH376 of the placeH4725 should killH2026 me for RebekahH7259; because she was fair to look upon. 8And it came to pass, when he had beenH1961 there a long time, that AbimelechH40 kingH4428 of the PhilistinesH6430 lookedH7200 out at a windowH2474, and sawH7200, and, behold, IsaacH3327 wasH1961 sporting with RebekahH7259 his wifeH802. 9And AbimelechH40 calledH7121 IsaacH3327, and saidH559, Behold, of a surety she is thy wifeH802: and howH349 saidst thou, She is my sisterH269? And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto him, Because I saidH559, LestH6435 I dieH4191 because of her. 10And AbimelechH40 saidH559, What is this thou hast done unto us? oneH259 of the peopleH5971 might easily have lainH7901 with thy wifeH802, and thou wouldest have broughtH935 guiltiness upon us. 11And AbimelechH40 charged all the peopleH5971, sayingH559, He that toucheth this manH376 or his wifeH802 shall surely be putH4191 to deathH4191.
12And IsaacH3327 sowedH2232 in that landH776, and foundH4672 in the same yearH8141 a hundredfold: and Jehovah blessedH1288 him. 13And the manH376 waxed greatH1431, and grewH1431 more and more until he becameH1431 veryH3966 greatH1431: 14and he had possessions of flocksH6629, and possessions of herdsH1241, and a greatH7227 household: and the PhilistinesH6430 envied him. 15Now all the wellsH875 which his father’sH1 servantsH5650 had digged in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85 his fatherH1, the PhilistinesH6430 had stoppedH5640, and filledH4390 with earthH6083. 16And AbimelechH40 saidH559 unto IsaacH3327, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we. 17And IsaacH3327 departed thence, and encampedH2583 in the valley of GerarH1642, and dweltH3427 there.
18And IsaacH3327 digged again the wellsH875 of waterH4325, which they had digged in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85 his fatherH1; for the PhilistinesH6430 had stoppedH5640 them after the deathH4194 of AbrahamH85: and he calledH7121 their namesH8034 after the namesH8034 by which his fatherH1 had calledH7121 them. 19And Isaac’s servantsH5650 digged in the valley, and foundH4672 there a wellH875 of springing waterH4325. 20And the herdsmen of GerarH1642 strove with Isaac’s herdsmen, sayingH559, The waterH4325 is ours: and he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of the wellH875 Esek, because they contendedH7378 with him. 21And they digged another wellH875, and they strove for that alsoH1571: and he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it Sitnah. 22And he removed from thence, and digged another wellH875; and for that they strove not: and he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it RehobothH7344; and he saidH559, For nowH6258 Jehovah hath madeH7337 room for us, and we shall be fruitfulH6509 in the landH776.
23And he wentH5927 up from thence to Beer-sheba. 24And Jehovah appearedH7200 unto him the same nightH3915, and saidH559, I am the GodH430 of AbrahamH85 thy fatherH1: fearH3372 not, for I am with thee, and will blessH1288 thee, and multiplyH7235 thy seedH2233 for my servantH5650 Abraham’s sakeH5668. 25And he builded an altarH4196 there, and calledH7121 upon the nameH8034 of Jehovah, and pitchedH5186 his tentH168 there: and there Isaac’s servantsH5650 digged a wellH875.
26Then AbimelechH40 wentH1980 to him from GerarH1642, and Ahuzzath his friend, and PhicolH6369 the captain of his hostH6635. 27And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto them, Wherefore are ye comeH935 unto me, seeing ye hateH8130 me, and have sentH7971 me awayH7971 from you? 28And they saidH559, We sawH7200 plainly that Jehovah wasH1961 with thee: and we saidH559, Let there now beH1961 an oathH423 betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us makeH3772 a covenantH1285 with thee, 29that thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touchedH5060 thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but goodH2896, and have sentH7971 thee awayH7971 in peaceH7965: thou art nowH6258 the blessedH1288 of Jehovah. 30And he madeH6213 them a feastH4960, and they did eatH398 and drinkH8354. 31And they roseH7925 up betimes in the morningH1242, and sware oneH376 to another: and IsaacH3327 sentH7971 them awayH7971, and they departed from him in peaceH7965. 32And it cameH935 to pass the same dayH3117, that Isaac’s servantsH5650 cameH935, and toldH5046 him concerning the wellH875 which they had digged, and saidH559 unto him, We have foundH4672 waterH4325. 33And he calledH7121 it Shibah: thereforeH3651 the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 is Beer-sheba unto this dayH3117.
34And when EsauH6215 wasH1961 fortyH705 yearsH8141 old he tookH3947 to wifeH802 Judith the daughterH1323 of BeeriH882 the HittiteH2850, and BasemathH1315 the daughterH1323 of ElonH356 the HittiteH2850: 35and they wereH1961 a grief of mind unto IsaacH3327 and to RebekahH7259.
