Genesis 23

American Standard Version

1And the lifeH2416 of SarahH8283 wasH1961 a hundredH3967 and sevenH7651 and twentyH6242 yearsH8141: these wereH1961 the yearsH8141 of the lifeH2416 of SarahH8283. 2And SarahH8283 diedH4191 in Kiriath-arbaH7153 (the same is HebronH2275), in the landH776 of CanaanH3667: and AbrahamH85 cameH935 to mournH5594 for SarahH8283, and to weepH1058 for her. 3And AbrahamH85 roseH6965 up from before his deadH4191, and spake unto the children of HethH2845, sayingH559, 4I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: giveH5414 me a possessionH272 of a burying-place with you, that I may buryH6912 my deadH4191 out of my sight. 5And the children of HethH2845 answered AbrahamH85, sayingH559 unto him, 6HearH8085 us, my lordH113; thou art a princeH5387 of GodH430 among us: in the choice of our sepulchres buryH6912 thy deadH4191; none of us shall withholdH3607 from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest buryH6912 thy deadH4191. 7And AbrahamH85 roseH6965 up, and bowedH7812 himself to the peopleH5971 of the landH776, even to the children of HethH2845. 8And he communed with them, sayingH559, If it be your mind that I should buryH6912 my deadH4191 out of my sight, hearH8085 me, and entreatH6293 for me to EphronH6085 the sonH1121 of ZoharH6714, 9that he may giveH5414 me the caveH4631 of MachpelahH4375, which he hath, which is in the endH7097 of his fieldH7704; for the fullH4392 price let him giveH5414 it to me in the midstH8432 of you for a possessionH272 of a burying-place. 10Now EphronH6085 was sittingH3427 in the midstH8432 of the children of HethH2845: and EphronH6085 the HittiteH2850 answered AbrahamH85 in the audience of the children of HethH2845, even of all that wentH935 in at the gateH8179 of his cityH5892, sayingH559, 11Nay, my lordH113, hearH8085 me: the fieldH7704 giveH5414 I thee, and the caveH4631 that is therein, I giveH5414 it thee; in the presence of the children of my peopleH5971 giveH5414 I it thee: buryH6912 thy deadH4191. 12And AbrahamH85 bowedH7812 himself downH7812 before the peopleH5971 of the landH776. 13And he spake unto EphronH6085 in the audience of the peopleH5971 of the landH776, sayingH559, But if thou wilt, I pray thee, hearH8085 me: I will giveH5414 the price of the fieldH7704; takeH3947 it of me, and I will buryH6912 my deadH4191 there. 14And EphronH6085 answered AbrahamH85, sayingH559 unto him, 15My lordH113, hearken unto me: a piece of landH776 worth fourH702 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701, what is that betwixt me and thee? buryH6912 therefore thy deadH4191. 16And AbrahamH85 hearkened unto EphronH6085; and AbrahamH85 weighedH8254 to EphronH6085 the silverH3701 which he had named in the audience of the children of HethH2845, fourH702 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701, current moneyH3701 with the merchant.

17So the fieldH7704 of EphronH6085, which was in MachpelahH4375, which was before MamreH4471, the fieldH7704, and the caveH4631 which was therein, and all the treesH6086 that were in the fieldH7704, that were in all the borderH1366 thereof roundH5439 about, were made sure 18unto AbrahamH85 for a possession in the presence of the children of HethH2845, before all that wentH935 in at the gateH8179 of his cityH5892. 19And after this, AbrahamH85 buriedH6912 SarahH8283 his wifeH802 in the caveH4631 of the fieldH7704 of MachpelahH4375 before MamreH4471 (the same is HebronH2275), in the landH776 of CanaanH3667. 20And the fieldH7704, and the caveH4631 that is therein, were made sure unto AbrahamH85 for a possessionH272 of a burying-place by the children of HethH2845.
