Genesis 23

NowH1961 SarahH8283 lived to beH2416 127H3967H6242H7651H8141 yearsH8141 oldH8141H8283H2416. 2She diedH4191 in Kiriath-arbaH7153 (that isH1931, HebronH2275) in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and AbrahamH85 went outH935 to mournH5594 and to weepH1058 forH8283 her.

Then AbrahamH85 got upH6965 fromH5921 besideH6440 his dead wifeH4191 and saidH1696 toH413 the HittitesH1121H2845H559,1 4“IH595 am a foreignerH1616 and an outsiderH8453 among youH5973. GiveH5414 me a burialH6913 siteH272 among youH5973 so that I can buryH6912 my deadH4191H6440.”

The HittitesH1121H2845 repliedH6030 to AbrahamH85H559, 6“Listen to usH8085, sirH113. YouH859 are God’sH430 chosen oneH5387 among usH8432. BuryH6912 your deadH4191H376 in the finestH4005 of our tombsH6913. NoneH3808 of usH4480 will withholdH3607 his tombH6913 for buryingH6912 your deadH4191.”

Then AbrahamH85 roseH6965 and bowed downH7812 before the peopleH5971 of the landH776, the HittitesH1121H2845. 8“IfH518H3426H854 you are willingH5315 for me to buryH6912 my deadH4191,” he saidH1696 to themH854H559H6440, “listen to meH8085, and approachH6293 EphronH6085 sonH1121 of ZoharH6714 on my behalf 9to sellH5414 me the caveH4631 of MachpelahH4375 that belongsH834 to him; itH834 is at the endH7097 of his fieldH7704. Let him sell itH5414 to me in your presenceH8432 for fullH4392 priceH3701, so that I may have a burialH6913 siteH272.”

Now EphronH6085 was sittingH3427 amongH8432 the sonsH1121 of HethH2845. So in the presenceH241 of allH3605 the HittitesH1121H2845 who had comeH935 to the gateH8179 of his cityH5892H559, EphronH6085 the HittiteH2850 answeredH6030 AbrahamH85, 11“NoH3808, my lordH113. Listen to meH8085. I giveH5414 you the fieldH7704, and I giveH5414 you the caveH4631 that is in itH834. I give itH5414 to you in the presenceH5869 of my peopleH1121H5971. BuryH6912 your deadH4191.”

Again AbrahamH85 bowed downH7812 beforeH6440 the peopleH5971 of the landH776 13and saidH1696 toH413 EphronH6085 in their presenceH241H5971H776H559H389, “IfH518 youH859 will pleaseH3863 listen to meH8085, I will pay youH5414 the priceH3701 of the fieldH7704. AcceptH3947 it from meH4480, so that I may buryH6912 my deadH4191 thereH8033.”

EphronH6085 answeredH6030 AbrahamH85, 15“Listen to meH8085, my lordH113. The landH776 is worth fourH702 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701,2 but whatH4100 is thatH1931 between you and meH996? BuryH6912 your deadH4191.”

AbrahamH85 agreedH8085 toH413 Ephron’s termsH6085 andH85 weighed outH8254 for him the priceH3701 he had namedH1696 in the hearingH241 of the HittitesH1121H2845: fourH702 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701, according to the standardH5674 of the merchantsH5503.

So Ephron’sH6085 fieldH7704 at MachpelahH4375 nearH6440 MamreH4471, the caveH4631 thatH834 was in it, and allH3605 the treesH6086 withinH3605 the boundariesH1366H5439 of the fieldH7704 were deeded overH6965 18to Abraham’sH85 possessionH4736 in the presenceH5869 of allH3605 the HittitesH1121H2845 who had comeH935 to the gateH8179 of his cityH5892. 19AfterH310 thisH3651, AbrahamH85 buriedH6912 his wifeH802 SarahH8283 inH413 the caveH4631 of the fieldH7704 at MachpelahH4375 nearH5921H6440 MamreH4471 (that isH1931, HebronH2275) in the landH776 of CanaanH3667. 20So the fieldH7704 and itsH834 caveH4631 were deededH6965 by the HittitesH1121H2845 to AbrahamH85 as a burialH6913H854 siteH272.
