Genesis 12
American Standard Version
1Now Jehovah saidH559 unto AbramH87, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindredH4138, and from thy father’sH1 houseH1004, unto the landH776 that I will showH7200 thee: 2and I will makeH6213 of thee a greatH1419 nationH1471, and I will blessH1288 thee, and makeH6213 thy nameH8034 greatH1419; and beH1961 thou a blessingH1293: 3and I will blessH1288 them that blessH1288 thee, and him that curseth thee will I curseH7043: and in thee shall all the familiesH4940 of the earthH127 be blessedH1288. 4So AbramH87 wentH3318, as Jehovah had spokenH1696 unto him; and LotH3876 wentH3318 with him: and AbramH87 was seventyH7657 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 old whenH834 he departed out of HaranH2771. 5And AbramH87 tookH3947 SaraiH8297 his wifeH802, and LotH3876 his brother’sH251 sonH1121, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the soulsH5315 that they had gotten in HaranH2771; and they wentH3318 forthH3318 to goH3318 into the landH776 of CanaanH3667; and into the landH776 of CanaanH3667 they cameH935. 6And AbramH87 passedH5674 through the landH776 unto the placeH4725 of ShechemH7927, unto the oak of MorehH4176. And the CanaaniteH3669 was thenH227 in the landH776. 7And Jehovah appearedH7200 unto AbramH87, and saidH559, Unto thy seedH2233 will I giveH5414 this landH776: and there builded he an altarH4196 unto Jehovah, who appearedH7200 unto him. 8And he removed from thence unto the mountainH2022 on the eastH6924 of Beth-el, and pitchedH5186 his tentH168, having Beth-el on the westH3220, and Ai on the eastH6924: and there he builded an altarH4196 unto Jehovah, and calledH7121 upon the nameH8034 of Jehovah. 9And AbramH87 journeyed, goingH1980 on still toward the SouthH5045.
10And there wasH1961 a famineH7458 in the landH776: and AbramH87 wentH3381 downH3381 into EgyptH4714 to sojourn there; for the famineH7458 wasH1961 sore in the landH776. 11And it cameH935 to pass, when he wasH1961 comeH935 near to enter into EgyptH4714, that he saidH559 unto SaraiH8297 his wifeH802, Behold now, I knowH3045 that thou art a fair womanH802 to look upon: 12and it will come to pass, when the EgyptiansH4713 shall seeH7200 thee, that they will sayH559, This isH1961 his wifeH802: and they will killH2026 me, but they will save thee aliveH2421. 13SayH559, I pray thee, thou art my sisterH269; that it may be wellH3190 with me for thy sakeH4616, and that my soulH5315 may liveH2421 because of thee. 14And it cameH935 to pass, that, when AbramH87 wasH1961 comeH935 into EgyptH4714, the Egyptians beheld the womanH802 that she wasH1961 veryH3966 fair. 15And the princesH8269 of PharaohH6547 sawH7200 her, and praisedH1984 her to PharaohH6547: and the womanH802 was takenH3947 into Pharaoh’s houseH1004. 16And he dealt wellH3190 with AbramH87 for her sakeH5668: and he had sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and he-asses, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and she-asses, and camelsH1581. 17And Jehovah plagued PharaohH6547 and his houseH1004 with greatH1419 plaguesH5061 because of SaraiH8297, Abram’s wifeH802. 18And PharaohH6547 calledH7121 AbramH87, and saidH559, What is this that thou hast done unto me? whyH4100 didst thou not tellH5046 me that she was thy wifeH802? 19whyH4100 saidst thou, She is my sisterH269, so that I tookH3947 her to be my wifeH802? nowH6258 thereforeH6258 behold thy wifeH802, takeH3947 her, and go thy way. 20And PharaohH6547 gave menH376 charge concerning him: and they brought him on the way, and his wifeH802, and all that he had.
