Isaiah 5
Revised Version 1895
1LetH4994 meH4994 singH7891 for my wellbeloved a songH7892 of my belovedH1730 touching his vineyardH3754. My wellbeloved had a vineyardH3754 in a very fruitful hillH7161: 2and he madeH6213 a trench about it, and gatheredH6960 outH2672 the stonesH5619 thereof, and plantedH5193 it with the choicest vine, and builtH1129 a towerH4026 in the midstH8432 of it, and also hewedH2672 outH2672 a winepressH3342 therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapesH6025, and it broughtH6213 forth wild grapesH6025. 3And nowH6258, O inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 and menH376 of JudahH3063, judgeH8199, I prayH4994 youH6258, betwixt meH4994 and my vineyardH3754. 4WhatH4100 couldH4100 have been doneH6213 moreH5750 to my vineyardH3754, that I have notH3808 doneH6213 in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapesH6025, broughtH6213 it forth wild grapesH6025? 5And nowH6258 goH1961 to; I will tellH3045 youH834 whatH834 I will doH6213 to my vineyardH3754: I will takeH5493 awayH5493 the hedgeH4881 thereof, and it shall be eaten upH853; I will breakH6555 downH6555 the fenceH1447 thereof, and it shall be trodden downH6555: 6and I will layH7896 it wasteH1326; it shall notH3808 be prunedH2168 norH3808 hoed; but there shall comeH5927 upH5927 briersH7898 and thornsH7898: I will also commandH6680 the cloudsH5645 that they rainH4306 noH3808 rainH4306 uponH5921 it. 7For the vineyardH3754 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 is the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, and the menH376 of JudahH3063 his pleasant plantH5194: and he lookedH2009 for judgmentH4941, but beholdH2009 oppression; for righteousnessH6666, but beholdH2009 a cryH6818. 8WoeH1945 unto them that joinH7126 houseH1004 to houseH1004, that lay fieldH7704 to fieldH7704, tillH5704 there be noH657 roomH1004, and ye be madeH7126 to dwellH3427 aloneH905 in the midstH7130 of the landH776! 9In mine earsH241 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, Of a truth manyH7227 housesH1004 shall be desolateH8047, evenH3808 greatH1419 and fair, withoutH3808 inhabitantH3427. 10For tenH6235 acresH6776 of vineyardH3754 shall yieldH6213 one bathH1324, and a homer of seedH2233 shall yieldH6213 but an ephahH374. 11WoeH1945 unto them that riseH7925 upH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, that they may followH7291 strongH7941 drinkH7941; that tarryH309 lateH309 into the night, till wineH3196 inflameH1814 them! 12And the harpH3658 and the lute, the tabret and the pipe, and wineH3196, are in their feasts: but they regardH7200 notH3808 the workH4639 of the LORDH3068, neitherH3808 have they consideredH7200 the operation of his handsH3027. 13Therefore my peopleH5971 are goneH1540 intoH1540 captivityH1540, for lackH1097 of knowledgeH1847: and their honourable menH4962 are famishedH7458, and their multitudeH1995 are parchedH6704 with thirstH6772. 14Therefore hell hath enlargedH7337 herH3381 desireH5315, and openedH6473 herH3381 mouthH6310 withoutH1097 measureH2706: and their glory, and their multitudeH1995, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth among them, descendH3381 intoH3381 it. 15And the mean manH376 is bowedH7817 downH7817, and the great manH376 is humbledH7817, and the eyesH5869 of the loftyH1364 are humbledH7817: 16but the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 is exaltedH1361 in judgmentH4941, and GodH410 the HolyH6918 One is sanctifiedH6942 in righteousnessH6666. 17Then shall the lambsH3532 feedH398 as in their pastureH1699, and the wasteH2723 placesH2723 of the fatH4220 ones shall wanderers eatH398. 18WoeH1945 unto them that drawH4900 iniquityH5771 with cordsH5688 of vanityH7723, and sinH2403 as it were with a cartH5699 rope: 19that sayH559, Let him makeH3045 speedH4116, let him hastenH4116 his workH4639, that weH7200 may seeH7200 it: and let the counselH6098 of the HolyH6918 One of IsraelH3478 drawH7126 nigh and comeH935, that weH7200 may knowH3045 it! 20WoeH1945 unto them that callH559 evilH7451 goodH2896, and goodH2896 evilH7451; that putH7760 darknessH2822 for lightH216, and lightH216 for darknessH2822; that putH7760 bitterH4751 for sweetH4966, and sweetH4966 for bitterH4751! 21WoeH1945 unto them that are wiseH2450 their ownH6440 eyesH5869, and prudentH995 in their ownH6440 sightH5869! 22WoeH1945 unto them that are mightyH1368 to drinkH8354 wineH3196, and menH376 of strengthH2428 to mingle strongH7941 drinkH8354: 23which justifyH6663 the wickedH7563 for a rewardH6118, and takeH5493 awayH5493 the righteousnessH6666 of the righteousH6662 from him! 24Therefore as the tongueH3956 of fireH784 devoureth the stubbleH7179, and as the dryH2842 grassH2842 sinketh downH3588 in the flameH3852, soH3651 their rootH8328 shall be as rottenness, and their blossomH6525 shall goH5927 upH5927 as dustH80: becauseH3588 they have rejectedH3988 the lawH8451 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, and despisedH5006 the wordH565 of the HolyH6918 One of IsraelH3478. 25Therefore is the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 kindledH2734 againstH5921 his peopleH5971, and he hath stretchedH5186 forth his handH3027 againstH5921 them, and hath smittenH5221 them, and the hillsH2022 didH3808 trembleH7264, and their carcases were as refuseH7725 in the midstH7130 of the streetsH2351. For allH3605 this his angerH639 is notH3808 turnedH7725 awayH7725, but his handH3027 is stretchedH5186 outH5186 stillH5750. 26And he will liftH5375 upH5375 an ensign to the nationsH1471 from farH7350, and will hissH8319 for them from the endH7097 of the earthH776: and, beholdH2009, they shall comeH935 with speedH4120 swiftlyH7031: 27NoneH369 shall be wearyH5889 norH3808 stumbleH3782 among them; noneH369 shall slumberH5123 norH3808 sleepH3462; neitherH3808 shall the girdleH232 of their loinsH2504 be loosed, norH3808 the latchet of their shoesH5275 be brokenH5423: 28whoseH834 arrowsH2671 are sharpH8150, and allH3605 their bowsH7198 bentH1869; their horses’ hoofsH6541 shall be countedH2803 like flint, and their wheelsH1534 like a whirlwindH1534: 29their roaringH7580 shall be like a lionH3715, they shall roarH7580 like youngH3715 lionsH3715: yea, they shall roarH7580, and layH270 holdH270 of the preyH2964, and carry it awayH5337 safe, and there shall be noneH369 to deliverH5337. 30And they shall roar againstH5921 them in that dayH3117 like the roaringH5098 of the seaH3220: and ifH2009 one lookH2009 unto the landH776, beholdH2009 darknessH2822 and distressH6862, and the lightH216 is darkenedH2821 in the cloudsH6183 thereof.
