Isaiah 29

(Luke 19:41–44)

1Woe to youH1945, O ArielH740,1the cityH7151 of ArielH740 where DavidH1732H3254 campedH2583!YearH8141 uponH5921 yearH8141let your festivalsH2282 recurH5362.2And I will constrainH6693 ArielH740,and there will beH1961 mourningH8386 and lamentationH592;she will beH1961 like an altar hearthH7402 before Me.3I will campH2583 in a circleH1754 around youH5921;I will besiegeH6696 youH5921 with towersH4674and set upH6965 siege worksH4694 against youH5921.4You will be brought lowH8213,you will speakH1696 from the groundH776,and out of the dustH6083your wordsH565 will be muffledH7817.Your voiceH6963 will beH1961 like a spiritH178 from the groundH776;your speechH565 will whisperH6850 out of the dustH6083.
5But your manyH1995 foesH2114 will beH1961 like fineH1851 dustH80,the multitudeH1995 of the ruthlessH6184H1961 like blowingH5674 chaffH4671.Then suddenlyH6597, in an instantH6621,6you will be visitedH6485 byH5973 the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635with thunderH7482 and earthquakeH7494 and loudH1419 noiseH6963,with windstormH5492 and tempestH5591 and consumingH398 flameH3851 of fireH784.7AllH3605 the manyH1995 nationsH1471going out to battleH6633 againstH5921 ArielH740—even allH3605 who war against herH6633,laying siegeH4685 and attackingH6693 her—will beH1961 like a dreamH2472,like a visionH2377 in the nightH3915,8as whenH834 a hungry manH7457H2009 dreamsH2492 he is eatingH398,then awakensH6974 still hungryH7386H5315;as whenH834 a thirsty manH6771H2009 dreamsH2492 he is drinkingH8354,then awakensH6974H2009 faintH5889H5315 and parchedH8264.SoH3651 will it beH1961 for allH3605 the manyH1995 nationsH1471who go to battleH6633 againstH5921 MountH2022 ZionH6726.
9StopH4102 and be astonishedH8539;blind yourselvesH8173 and be sightlessH8173;be drunkH7937, but notH3808 with wineH3196;staggerH5128, but notH3808 from strong drinkH7941.10ForH3588 the LORDH3068 has poured outH5258 on youH5921a spiritH7307 of deep sleepH8639.He has shutH6105 your eyesH5869, O prophetsH5030;He has coveredH3680 your headsH7218, O seersH2374.

11And the entireH3605 visionH2380 will beH1961 to you like the wordsH1697 sealedH2856 in a scrollH5612. If itH834 is handedH5414 toH413 someone to readH3045H5612H559H7121H4994H2088, he will sayH559, “I cannotH3808H3201, becauseH3588 itH1931 is sealedH2856.” 12Or if the scrollH5612 is handedH5414 toH5921 oneH834 unableH3808 to readH3045H5612H559H7121H4994H2088, he will sayH559, “I cannot readH3808H3045H5612.”

13ThereforeH3282H3588 the LordH136 saidH559:

“TheseH2088 peopleH5971 draw near to MeH5066 with their mouthsH6310and honor MeH3513 with their lipsH8193,but their heartsH3820 are farH7368 from MeH4480.Their worshipH3374 of MeH853 is butH1961 rulesH4687 taughtH3925 by menH582.314ThereforeH3651H2005 I will againH3254 confoundH6381 theseH2088 peopleH5971with wonderH6381 upon wonderH6382.The wisdomH2451 of the wiseH2450 will vanishH6,and the intelligenceH998 of the intelligentH995 will be hiddenH5641.4”
15WoeH1945 to those who dig deepH6009to hideH5641 their plansH6098H1961 from the LORDH3068.In darknessH4285 they do their worksH4639 and sayH559,“WhoH4310 sees usH7200, and whoH4310 will knowH3045?”

Sanctification for the Godly

16You have turned things upside downH2017, as ifH518 the potterH3335 were regardedH2803 as clayH2563. ShallH3588 what is formedH4639 sayH559 to him who formed itH6213, “He did notH3808 make meH6213”?5 Can the potteryH3336 sayH559 of the potterH3335, “He has noH3808 understandingH995”?

17In a veryH3808H5750 shortH4592 timeH4213,will not LebanonH3844 becomeH7725 an orchardH3759,and the orchardH3759 seemH2803 like a forestH3293?18On thatH1931 dayH3117 the deafH2795 will hearH8085 the wordsH1697 of the scrollH5612,and out ofH652 the deep darknessH2822 the eyesH5869 of the blindH5787 will seeH7200.19The humbleH6035 will increaseH3254 their joyH8057 in the LORDH3068,and the poorH34 among menH120 will rejoiceH1523 in the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478.
20ForH3588 the ruthlessH6184 will vanishH656,the mockersH3887 will disappearH3615,and allH3605 who lookH8245 for evilH205will be cut downH3772—21those who indictH2398 a manH120 with a wordH1697,who ensnareH6983 the mediatorH3198 at the gateH8179,and who with false chargesH8414deprive the innocentH6662 of justiceH5186.

22ThereforeH3651 the LORDH3068 whoH834 redeemedH6299 AbrahamH85 saysH559 ofH413 the houseH1004 of JacobH3290:

“NoH3808 longerH6258 will JacobH3290 be ashamedH954and noH3808 moreH6258 will his faceH6440 grow paleH2357.23ForH3588 when he seesH7200 his childrenH3206 around himH7130,the workH4639 of My handsH3027,they will honorH6942 My nameH8034,they will sanctifyH6942 the HolyH6918 One of JacobH3290,andH853 they will stand in aweH6206of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478.24Then the waywardH8582 in spiritH7307 will comeH3045 to understandingH998,and those who grumbleH7279 will acceptH3925 instructionH3948.”
