Isaiah 29
American Standard Version
1Ho ArielH740, ArielH740, the city where DavidH1732 encampedH2583! addH5595 ye yearH8141 to yearH8141; let the feastsH2282 come roundH5362: 2then will I distressH6693 ArielH740, and there shall beH1961 mourning and lamentation; and she shall beH1961 unto me as ArielH740. 3And I will encampH2583 against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with posted troops, and I will raiseH6965 siege works against thee. 4And thou shalt beH1961 brought downH7817, and shalt speakH1696 out of the groundH776, and thy speech shall beH1961 lowH8213 out of the dustH6083; and thy voiceH6963 shall beH1961 as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the groundH776, and thy speech shall whisperH6850 out of the dustH6083.
5But the multitudeH1995 of thy foes shall beH1961 like small dustH80, and the multitudeH1995 of the terrible onesH6184 as chaffH4671 that passeth awayH5674: yea, it shall beH1961 in an instantH6621 suddenlyH6597. 6She shall be visitedH6485 of Jehovah of hostsH6635 with thunderH6963, and with earthquakeH7494, and greatH1419 noise, with whirlwind and tempestH5591, and the flameH3851 of a devouringH398 fireH784. 7And the multitudeH1995 of all the nationsH1471 that fight against ArielH740, even all that fight against her and her stronghold, and that distressH6693 her, shall beH1961 as a dreamH2472, a visionH2377 of the nightH3915. 8And it shall beH1961 as when a hungryH7457 man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soulH5315 is emptyH7386: or as when a thirstyH6771 man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soulH5315 hath appetiteH5315: soH3651 shall the multitudeH1995 of all the nationsH1471 beH1961, that fight against mount ZionH6726.
9Tarry ye and wonder; take your pleasure and be blindH8173: they are drunken, but not with wineH3196; they staggerH5128, but not with strongH7941 drinkH7941. 10For Jehovah hath poured out upon you the spiritH7307 of deepH8639 sleepH8639, and hath closed your eyesH5869, the prophetsH5030; and your headsH7218, the seersH2374, hath he coveredH3680. 11And all visionH2380 is becomeH1961 unto you as the wordsH1697 of a bookH5612 that is sealedH2856, which men deliver to oneH2088 that is learned, sayingH559, ReadH7121 this, I pray thee; and he saith, I cannot, for it is sealedH2856: 12and the bookH5612 is delivered to him that is not learned, sayingH559, ReadH7121 this, I pray thee; and he saith, I am not learned.
13And the LordH136 saidH559, Forasmuch as this peopleH5971 drawH5066 nigh unto me, and with their mouthH6310 and with their lipsH8193 do honorH3513 me, but have removedH7368 their heartH3820 farH7368 from me, and their fearH3373 of me is a commandmentH4687 of menH376 which hath beenH1961 taughtH3925 them; 14thereforeH3651, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this peopleH5971, even a marvellous work and a wonder; and the wisdomH2451 of their wiseH2450 men shall perishH6, and the understandingH995 of their prudent men shall be hidH5641.
15WoeH1945 unto them that hideH5641 deepH6009 their counselH6098 from Jehovah, and whose worksH4639 are in the darkH4285, and that sayH559, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? 16Ye turn things upside down! Shall the potterH3335 be esteemedH2803 as clay; that the thing madeH6213 should sayH559 of him that madeH6213 it, He madeH6213 me not; or the thing formedH3335 sayH559 of him that formedH3335 it, He hath no understandingH995?
17Is it not yetH5750 a very littleH4592 while, and LebanonH3844 shall be turnedH7725 into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemedH2803 as a forestH3293? 18And in that dayH3117 shall the deafH2795 hearH8085 the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612, and the eyesH5869 of the blindH5787 shall seeH7200 out of obscurity and out of darknessH2822. 19The meek also shall increaseH3254 their joyH8057 in Jehovah, and the poor among menH120 shall rejoiceH1523 in the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478. 20For the terrible one is broughtH3615 to nought, and the scoffer ceaseth, and all they that watchH8245 for iniquity are cutH3772 off; 21that make a manH120 an offender in his cause, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gateH8179, and turnH5186 asideH5186 the just with a thingH1697 of nought.
22ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah, who redeemedH6299 AbrahamH85, concerningH413 the houseH1004 of JacobH3290: JacobH3290 shall not nowH6258 be ashamedH954, neither shall his faceH6440 nowH6258 wax pale. 23But when he seeth his childrenH3206, the workH4639 of my handsH3027, in the midstH7130 of him, they shall sanctifyH6942 my nameH8034; yea, they shall sanctifyH6942 the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of JacobH3290, and shall stand in aweH6206 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 24They also that errH8582 in spiritH7307 shall come to understandingH998, and they that murmur shall receive instructionH3948.
