Isaiah 22
American Standard Version
1The burdenH4853 of the valleyH1516 of visionH2384.
What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly goneH5927 up to the housetops? 2O thou that art fullH4395 of shoutings, a tumultuous cityH5892, a joyous townH7151; thy slainH2491 are not slainH2491 with the swordH2719, neither are they deadH4191 in battleH4421. 3All thy rulersH7101 fledH1272 awayH1272 togetherH3162, they were boundH631 by the archers; all that were foundH4672 of thee were boundH631 togetherH3162; they fledH1272 afarH7350 off. 4ThereforeH3651 saidH559 I, LookH8159 away from me, I will weepH1065 bitterly; labor not to comfortH5162 me for the destructionH7701 of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971.
5For it is a dayH3117 of discomfiture, and of treading down, and of perplexity, from the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635, in the valleyH1516 of visionH2384; a breaking down of the wallsH7023, and a crying to the mountainsH2022. 6And ElamH5867 bareH6168 the quiverH827, with chariotsH7393 of menH120 and horsemenH6571; and KirH7024 uncovered the shieldH4043. 7And it came to pass, that thy choicest valleysH6010 wereH1961 fullH4390 of chariotsH7393, and the horsemenH6571 setH7896 themselves in array at the gateH8179. 8And he took away the coveringH4539 of JudahH3063; and thou didst lookH5027 in that dayH3117 to the armor in the houseH1004 of the forestH3293. 9And ye sawH7200 the breaches of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, that they were manyH7235; and ye gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 the watersH4325 of the lower poolH1295; 10and ye numbered the housesH1004 of JerusalemH3389, and ye brake down the housesH1004 to fortifyH1219 the wallH2346; 11ye madeH6213 also a reservoir between the twoH2346 wallsH2346 for the waterH4325 of the oldH3465 poolH1295. But ye lookedH7200 not unto him that had done this, neither had ye respect unto him that purposed it long ago.
12And in that dayH3117 did the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635, callH7121 to weepingH1065, and to mourningH4553, and to baldnessH7144, and to girding with sackclothH8242: 13and, behold, joyH8057 and gladnessH8057, slaying oxenH1241 and killingH2026 sheepH6629, eatingH398 fleshH1320 and drinkingH8354 wineH3196: Let us eatH398 and drinkH8354, for to-morrow we shall dieH4191. 14And Jehovah of hostsH6635 revealedH1540 himself in mine earsH241, Surely this iniquityH5771 shall not be forgiven you till ye dieH4191, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635.
15ThusH3541 saith the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635, GoH935, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto ShebnaH7644, who is over the houseH1004, and sayH559, 16What doest thou hereH6311? and whom hast thou hereH6311, that thou hast hewed thee out hereH6311 a sepulchre? hewing him out a sepulchre on highH4791, graving a habitation for himself in the rockH5553! 17Behold, Jehovah, like a strong manH1397, will hurl thee away violently; yea, he will wrap thee up closely. 18He will surely wind thee round and round, and toss thee like a ball into a large country; there shalt thou dieH4191, and there shall be the chariotsH4818 of thy gloryH3519, thou shameH7036 of thy lord’sH113 houseH1004. 19And I will thrust thee from thine office; and from thy station shalt thou be pulled downH2040. 20And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, that I will callH7121 my servantH5650 EliakimH471 the sonH1121 of HilkiahH2518: 21and I will clotheH3847 him with thy robe, and strengthenH2388 him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his handH3027; and he shall beH1961 a fatherH1 to the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, and to the houseH1004 of JudahH3063. 22And the keyH4668 of the houseH1004 of DavidH1732 will I lay upon his shoulderH7926; and he shall openH6605, and none shall shutH5462; and he shall shutH5462, and none shall openH6605. 23And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure placeH4725; and he shall beH1961 for a throneH3678 of gloryH3519 to his father’sH1 houseH1004. 24And they shall hangH8518 upon him all the gloryH3519 of his father’sH1 houseH1004, the offspring and the issue, every smallH6996 vesselH3627, from the cups even to all the flagons. 25In that dayH3117, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, shall the nail that was fastened in a sure placeH4725 give way; and it shall be hewn downH5307, and fallH5307; and the burdenH4853 that was upon it shall be cutH3772 off; for Jehovah hath spokenH1696 it.
