Genesis 48
Revised Version 1895
1And it cameH1961 to passH1961 afterH310 theseH428 things, that one saidH559 to JosephH3130, BeholdH2009, thy fatherH1 is sickH2470: and he tookH3947 with him his twoH8147 sonsH1121, ManassehH4519 and EphraimH669. 2And one toldH5046 JacobH3290, and saidH559, BeholdH2009, thy sonH1121 JosephH3130 cometh unto thee: and IsraelH3478 strengthenedH2388 himselfH2388, and satH3427 uponH5921 the bedH4296. 3And JacobH3290 saidH559 unto JosephH3130, GodH410 AlmightyH7706 appearedH7200 unto meH413 at LuzH3870 in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and blessedH1288 meH413, 4and saidH559 unto meH413, BeholdH2005, I will makeH5414 thee fruitfulH6509, and multiplyH7235 thee, and I will makeH5414 of thee a companyH6951 of peoplesH5971; and will giveH5414 this landH776 to thy seedH2233 afterH310 thee for an everlastingH5769 possessionH272. 5And nowH6258 thy twoH8147 sonsH1121, which were bornH3205 unto thee in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 beforeH413 I cameH935 unto thee intoH413 EgyptH4714, are mine; EphraimH669 and ManassehH4519, evenH5704 as ReubenH7205 and SimeonH8095, shall be mine. 6And thy issue, whichH834 thou begettest afterH310 them, shall be thine; they shall be calledH7121 afterH310 the nameH8034 of their brethrenH251 in their inheritanceH5159. 7And as for meH5921, when I cameH935 from PaddanH6307, RachelH7354 diedH4191 by meH5921 in the landH776 of CanaanH3667 in the wayH1870, when there was stillH5750 someH3530 wayH1870 to comeH935 unto EphrathH672: and I buriedH6912 herH5921 there in the wayH1870 to EphrathH672 (the sameH1931 is Beth-lehem). 8And IsraelH3478 beheld Joseph’sH3130 sonsH1121, and saidH559, Who are theseH428? 9And JosephH3130 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, They are my sonsH1121, whomH834 GodH430 hath givenH5414 meH413 hereH2088. And he saidH559, BringH3947 them, I prayH4994 thee, unto meH413, and I will blessH1288 them. 10Now the eyesH5869 of IsraelH3478 were dimH3513 for ageH2207, soH3808 that he couldH3201 notH3808 seeH7200. And he broughtH5066 them nearH5066 unto him; and he kissedH5401 them, and embracedH2263 them. 11And IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JosephH3130, I had notH3808 thoughtH559 to seeH7200 thy faceH6440: and, loH2009, GodH430 hath letH3808 meH413 seeH7200 thy seedH2233 also. 12And JosephH3130 broughtH3318 them outH3318 from betweenH5973 his kneesH1290; and he bowedH7812 himselfH7812 with his faceH639 to the earthH776. 13And JosephH3130 tookH3947 them bothH8147, EphraimH669 in his rightH3225 handH3225 towardH413 Israel’sH3478 leftH8040 handH3225, and ManassehH4519 in his leftH8040 handH3225 towardH413 Israel’sH3478 rightH3225 handH3225, and broughtH3947 them nearH5066 unto him. 14And IsraelH3478 stretchedH7971 outH7971 his rightH3225 handH3027, and laidH7896 it uponH5921 Ephraim’sH669 headH7218, who was the youngerH6810, and his leftH8040 handH3027 uponH5921 Manasseh’sH4519 headH7218, guiding his handsH3027 wittingly; for ManassehH4519 was the firstbornH1060. 15And he blessedH1288 JosephH3130, and saidH559, The GodH430 beforeH6440 whomH834 my fathersH1 AbrahamH85 and IsaacH3327 didH834 walkH1980, the GodH430 whichH834 hath fed meH6440 allH5704 my lifeH3117 longH5704 unto this dayH3117, 16the angelH4397 which hath redeemedH1350 meH7121 from allH3605 evilH7451, blessH1288 the ladsH5288; and letH1350 my nameH8034 be namedH8034 on them, and the nameH8034 of my fathersH1 AbrahamH85 and IsaacH3327; and letH1350 them growH1288 intoH776 a multitudeH7230 in the midstH7130 of the earthH776. 17And when JosephH3130 sawH7200 that his fatherH1 laidH7896 his rightH3225 handH3027 uponH5921 the headH7218 of EphraimH669, it displeasedH7489 him: and he heldH8551 upH7200 his father’sH1 handH3027, to removeH5493 it from Ephraim’sH669 headH7218 unto Manasseh’sH4519 headH7218. 18And JosephH3130 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, NotH3808 soH3651, my fatherH1: for this is the firstbornH1060; putH7760 thy rightH3225 handH3225 uponH5921 his headH7218. 19And his fatherH1 refusedH3985, and saidH559, I knowH3045 it, my sonH1121, I knowH3045 it: he also shall becomeH1961 a peopleH5971, and he also shall be greatH1431: howbeit his youngerH6996 brotherH251 shall be greaterH1431 thanH4480 he, and his seedH2233 shall becomeH1961 a multitudeH4393 of nationsH1471. 20And he blessedH1288 them that dayH3117, sayingH559, In thee shall IsraelH3478 blessH1288, sayingH559, GodH430 makeH7760 thee as EphraimH669 and as ManassehH4519: and he setH7760 EphraimH669 beforeH6440 ManassehH4519. 21And IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JosephH3130, BeholdH2009, I dieH4191: but GodH430 shall be with youH7725, and bringH7725 youH7725 againH7725 unto the landH776 of your fathersH1. 22Moreover I have givenH5414 to thee one portionH7926 aboveH5921 thy brethrenH251, whichH834 I tookH3947 outH5921 of the handH3027 of the AmoriteH567 with my swordH2719 and with my bowH7198.
