Genesis 43
American Standard Version
1And the famineH7458 was sore in the landH776. 2And it cameH935 to pass, when they had eatenH398 up the grainH7668 which they had broughtH935 out of EgyptH4714, their fatherH1 saidH559 unto them, GoH935 again, buyH7666 us a littleH4592 foodH400. 3And JudahH3063 spake unto him, sayingH559, The manH376 did solemnly protest unto us, sayingH559, Ye shall not seeH7200 my faceH6440, except your brotherH251 be with you. 4If thou wilt sendH7971 our brotherH251 with us, we will goH3381 downH3381 and buyH7666 thee foodH400: 5but if thou wilt not sendH7971 him, we will not goH3381 down; for the manH376 saidH559 unto us, Ye shall not seeH7200 my faceH6440, except your brotherH251 be with you. 6And IsraelH3478 saidH559, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tellH5046 the manH376 whether ye had yetH5750 a brotherH251? 7And they saidH559, The manH376 askedH7592 straitly concerning ourselves, and concerning our kindredH4138, sayingH559, Is your fatherH1 yetH5750 aliveH2416? have ye another brotherH251? and we toldH5046 him according to the tenor of these wordsH1697: could we in any wise knowH3045 that he would sayH559, BringH3381 your brotherH251 downH3381? 8And JudahH3063 saidH559 unto IsraelH3478 his fatherH1, SendH7971 the ladH5288 with me, and we will ariseH6965 and goH7971; that we may liveH2421, and not dieH4191, both we, and thou, and alsoH1571 our littleH2945 onesH2945. 9I will be suretyH6148 for him; of my handH3027 shalt thou requireH1245 him: if I bringH935 him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever: 10for except we had lingered, surely we had nowH6258 returnedH7725 a second timeH6471. 11And their fatherH1 IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto them, If it be soH3651 now, do this: takeH3947 of the choice fruits of the landH776 in your vesselsH3627, and carry down the manH376 a present, a littleH4592 balmH6875, and a littleH4592 honeyH1706, spicery and myrrhH3910, nuts, and almondsH8247; 12and takeH3947 doubleH4932 moneyH3701 in your handH3027; and the moneyH3701 that was returnedH7725 in the mouthH6310 of your sacksH572 carry again in your handH3027; peradventure it was an oversight: 13takeH3947 also your brotherH251, and ariseH6965, goH7725 again unto the manH376: 14and GodH410 AlmightyH7706 giveH5414 you mercy before the manH376, that he may release unto you your otherH312 brotherH251 and BenjaminH1144. And if I be bereavedH7921 of my children, I am bereavedH7921. 15And the menH376 tookH3947 that present, and they tookH3947 doubleH4932 moneyH3701 in their handH3027, and BenjaminH1144; and roseH6965 up, and wentH3381 downH3381 to EgyptH4714, and stoodH5975 before JosephH3130.
16And when JosephH3130 sawH7200 BenjaminH1144 with them, he saidH559 to the steward of his houseH1004, BringH935 the menH376 into the houseH1004, and slay, and make ready; for the menH376 shall dine with me at noonH6672. 17And the manH376 did as JosephH3130 bade; and the manH376 broughtH935 the menH376 to Joseph’sH3130 houseH1004. 18And the menH376 were afraidH3372, because they were broughtH935 to Joseph’sH3130 houseH1004; and they saidH559, Because of the moneyH3701 that was returnedH7725 in our sacksH572 at the firstH8462 time are we broughtH935 in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fallH5307 upon us, and takeH3947 us for bondmen, and our asses. 19And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s houseH1004, and they spake unto him at the doorH6607 of the houseH1004, 20and saidH559, Oh, my lordH113, we cameH3381 indeed downH3381 at the firstH8462 time to buyH7666 foodH400: 21and it cameH935 to pass, when we cameH935 to the lodging-place, that we openedH6605 our sacksH572, and, behold, every man’sH376 moneyH3701 wasH1961 in the mouthH6310 of his sackH572, our moneyH3701 in full weightH4948: and we have broughtH935 it again in our handH3027. 22And otherH312 moneyH3701 have we broughtH3381 downH3381 in our handH3027 to buyH7666 foodH400: we knowH3045 not who putH7760 our moneyH3701 in our sacksH572. 23And he saidH559, PeaceH7965 be to you, fearH3372 not: your GodH430, and the GodH430 of your fatherH1, hath givenH5414 you treasure in your sacksH572: I had your moneyH3701. And he broughtH935 SimeonH8095 out unto them. 24And the manH376 broughtH935 the menH376 into Joseph’s houseH1004, and gaveH5414 them waterH4325, and they washedH7364 their feetH7272; and he gaveH5414 their asses provender. 25And they made ready the present against Joseph’s comingH935 at noonH6672: for they heardH8085 that they should eatH398 breadH3899 there.
26And whenH834 JosephH3130 cameH935 home, they broughtH935 him the present which was in their handH3027 into the houseH1004, and bowedH7812 downH7812 themselves to him to the earthH776. 27And he askedH7592 them of their welfareH7965, and saidH559, Is your fatherH1 well, the oldH2205 manH2205 of whom ye spake? Is he yetH5750 aliveH2416? 28And they saidH559, Thy servantH5650 our fatherH1 is well, he is yetH5750 aliveH2416. And they bowedH7812 the head, and made obeisance. 29And he liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869, and sawH7200 BenjaminH1144 his brotherH251, his mother’sH517 sonH1121, and saidH559, Is this your youngestH6996 brotherH251, of whom ye spake unto me? And he saidH559, GodH430 be gracious unto thee, my sonH1121. 30And JosephH3130 madeH4116 hasteH4116; for his heart yearned over his brotherH251: and he soughtH1245 where to weepH1058; and he entered into his chamberH2315, and weptH1058 there. 31And he washedH7364 his faceH6440, and cameH3318 out; and he refrained himself, and saidH559, SetH7760 on breadH3899. 32And they setH7760 on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the EgyptiansH4713, that did eatH398 with him, by themselves: because the EgyptiansH4713 might not eatH398 breadH3899 with the HebrewsH5680; for that is an abominationH8441 unto the EgyptiansH4713. 33And they satH3427 before him, the first-born according to his birthrightH1062, and the youngestH6810 according to his youth: and the menH376 marvelled oneH376 with another. 34And he tookH5375 and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin’s mess was fiveH2568 times so muchH7235 as any of theirs. And they drankH8354, and were merry with him.
