Romans 8
(Ezekiel 36:16–38; Galatians 5:16–26)
1ThereforeG686, there is nowG3568 noG3762 condemnationG2631 for those whoG3588 are inG1722 ChristG5547 JesusG2424.1 2ForG1063 inG1722 ChristG5547 JesusG2424 theG3588 lawG3551 of theG3588 SpiritG4151 ofG3588 lifeG2222 set youG47712 freeG1659 fromG575 theG3588 lawG3551 of sinG266 andG2532 deathG2288. 3ForG1063 whatG3588 theG3588 lawG3551 was powerless to doG102 inG1722 thatG3739 it was weakenedG770 byG1223 theG3588 fleshG4561, GodG2316 did by sendingG3992 HisG1438 own SonG5207 inG1722 the likenessG3667 of sinfulG266 manG4561, as an offering forG4012 sinG266.3 He thus condemnedG2632 sinG266 inG1722 theG3588 fleshG4561, 4so thatG2443 theG3588 righteous standardG1345 of theG3588 lawG3551 might be fulfilledG4137 inG1722 usG1473, whoG3588 do notG3361 walkG4043 according toG2596 the fleshG4561 butG235 according toG2596 the SpiritG4151.
ThoseG3588 who liveG1510 according toG2596 the fleshG4561 set their mindsG5426 on the thingsG3588 of theG3588 fleshG4561; butG1161 thoseG3588 who live according toG2596 the SpiritG4151 set their minds on the thingsG3588 of theG3588 SpiritG4151. 6TheG3588 mindG5427 of theG3588 fleshG4561 is deathG2288, butG1161 theG3588 mindG5427 of theG3588 SpiritG4151 is lifeG2222 andG2532 peaceG1515, 7becauseG1360 theG3588 mindG5427 of theG3588 fleshG4561 is hostileG2189 toG1519 GodG2316: It does not submitG3756G5293 toG3588 God’sG2316 lawG3551, norG1063G3761 can itG1410 do so. 8ThoseG3588 controlled byG1722 the fleshG45614 cannotG3756G1410 pleaseG700 GodG2316.
9YouG4771, howeverG1161, areG1510 controlled not byG3756G1722 the fleshG4561, butG235 byG1722 the SpiritG4151, ifG1512 the SpiritG4151 of GodG2316 livesG3611 inG1722 youG4771. AndG1161 ifG1487 anyoneG5100 does notG3756 haveG2192 the SpiritG4151 of ChristG5547, heG3778 does notG3756 belongG1510 toG846 Christ. 10ButG1161 ifG1487 ChristG5547 is inG1722 youG4771, your bodyG4983 is deadG3498 because ofG1223 sinG266, yetG1161 your spiritG4151 is aliveG22225 because ofG1223 righteousnessG1343. 11AndG1161 ifG1487 theG3588 SpiritG4151 of HimG3588 who raisedG1453 JesusG2424 fromG1537 the deadG3498 is livingG3611 inG1722 youG4771, He whoG3588 raisedG1453 ChristG5547 JesusG2424 fromG1537 the deadG34986 will also give lifeG2532G2227 to yourG4771 mortalG2349 bodiesG4983 throughG1223 HisG846 SpiritG4151, whoG3588 livesG1774 inG1722 youG4771.
Heirs with Christ
12ThereforeG686G3767, brothersG80, we haveG1510 an obligationG3781, but it is notG3756 to theG3588 fleshG4561, to liveG2198 according toG2596 it. 13ForG1063 ifG1487 you liveG2198 according toG2596 the fleshG4561, you willG3195 dieG599; butG1161 ifG1487 by the SpiritG4151 you put to deathG2289 theG3588 deedsG4234 of theG3588 bodyG4983, you will liveG2198. 14ForG1063 all whoG3745 are ledG71 by the SpiritG4151 of GodG2316 areG1510 sonsG5207 of GodG2316.
15ForG1063 you did not receiveG3756G2983 a spiritG4151 of slaveryG1397 that returns youG3825 toG1519 fearG5401, butG235 you receivedG2983 the SpiritG4151 of adoption to sonshipG5206, byG1722 whomG3739 we cryG2896, “AbbaG5! FatherG3962!” 16TheG3588 SpiritG4151 HimselfG846 testifies withG4828 ourG1473 spiritG4151 thatG3754 we areG1510 God’sG2316 childrenG5043. 17AndG1161 ifG1487 we are childrenG5043, thenG2532 we are heirsG2818: heirsG2818 of GodG2316 andG1161 co-heirsG4789 with ChristG5547—if indeedG1512 we suffer withG4841 Him, so thatG2443 we may also be glorified withG2532G4888 Him.
Future Glory
(2 Corinthians 5:1–10)
I considerG3049 thatG3754 our presentG3568G2540 sufferingsG3804 are notG3756 comparableG514 toG4314 theG3588 gloryG1391 that will beG3195 revealedG601 inG1519 usG1473. 19TheG3588 creationG2937 waitsG553 in eager expectationG603 for theG3588 revelationG602 of theG3588 sonsG5207 of GodG2316. 20ForG1063 theG3588 creationG2937 was subjectedG5293 toG3588 futilityG3153, notG3756 by its own willG1635, butG235 because ofG1223 theG3588 One who subjectedG5293 it, inG1909 hopeG1680 21thatG3754 theG3588 creationG2937 itselfG846 will be set freeG1659 fromG575 its bondageG1397 to decayG5356 and brought intoG1519 theG3588 gloriousG3588G1391 freedomG1657 of theG3588 childrenG5043 of GodG2316.
We knowG1492 thatG3754 theG3588 wholeG3956 creationG2937 has been groaning togetherG4959 in the pains of childbirthG4944 untilG891 the present timeG3568. 23NotG3756 onlyG3440 thatG1161, butG235 weG1473 ourselvesG846, who haveG2192 theG3588 firstfruitsG536 of theG3588 SpiritG4151, groanG4727 inwardlyG846G1722G1438 as we wait eagerly forG553 our adoption as sonsG5206, theG3588 redemptionG629 of ourG1473 bodiesG4983. 24ForG1063 in thisG3588 hopeG1680 we were savedG4982; butG1161 hopeG1680 that is seenG991 isG1510 noG3756 hopeG1680 at all. Who hopes forG1679 whatG3739 he can already seeG991? 25ButG1161 ifG1487 we hope forG1679 whatG3739 we do not yet seeG3756G991, we wait forG553 it patientlyG1223G5281.
In the same wayG5615G2532, theG3588 SpiritG4151 helps usG4878 in ourG1473 weaknessG769. ForG1063 we do not knowG3756G1492 howG5101 we oughtG2526G1163 to prayG4336, butG235 theG3588 SpiritG4151 HimselfG846 intercedesG5241 for us with groansG4726 too deep for wordsG215. 27AndG1161 He whoG3588 searchesG2045 our heartsG2588 knowsG1492 theG3588 mindG5427 of theG3588 SpiritG4151, becauseG3754 the Spirit intercedesG1793 forG5228 the saintsG40 according toG2596 the will of GodG2316.
God Works in All Things
(Ephesians 1:3–14)
28AndG1161 we knowG1492 thatG3754 GodG2316 works all things togetherG4903G3956 forG1519 the goodG18 of those whoG3588 loveG25 Him, whoG3588 areG1510 calledG2822 according toG2596 His purposeG4286. 29ForG3754 thoseG3739 God foreknewG4267, He also predestinedG2532G4309 to be conformed toG4832 theG3588 imageG1504 ofG3588 HisG846 SonG5207, so thatG1519 HeG846 would beG1510 the firstbornG4416 amongG1722 manyG4183 brothersG80. 30AndG1161 thoseG3739 He predestinedG4309, He also calledG2532G2564; those He calledG2564, He also justifiedG2532G1344; those He justifiedG1344, He also glorifiedG2532G1392.
31WhatG5101 thenG3767 shall we sayG2046 in response toG4314 these thingsG3778? IfG1487 GodG2316 is forG5228 usG1473, whoG5101 can be againstG2596 usG1473? 32He whoG3739 did not spareG5339G3756 His ownG2398 SonG5207 butG235 gaveG3860 Him upG846 forG5228 usG1473 allG3956, howG4459 will He notG3780 alsoG2532, along withG4862 HimG846, freely giveG5483 usG1473 allG3956 thingsG3588? 33WhoG5101 will bring any chargeG1458 againstG2596 God’sG2316 electG1588? It is GodG2316 who justifiesG1344. 34WhoG5101 is thereG3588 to condemnG2632 us? For ChristG5547 JesusG2424, whoG3588 diedG599, andG1161 more than thatG3123 was raised to lifeG1453, isG1510 atG1722 the right handG1188 of GodG2316—andG2532 He is intercedingG1793 forG5228 usG1473.
More than Conquerors
(Psalm 44:1–26)
35WhoG5101 shall separateG5563 usG1473 fromG575 theG3588 loveG26 of ChristG5547? Shall troubleG2347 orG2228 distressG4730 orG2228 persecutionG1375 orG2228 famineG3042 orG2228 nakednessG1132 orG2228 dangerG2794 orG2228 swordG3162? 36AsG2531 it is writtenG1125:
37NoG235, inG1722 allG3956 these thingsG3778 we are more than conquerorsG5245 throughG1223 Him whoG3588 lovedG25 usG1473. 38ForG1063 I am convincedG3982 thatG3754 neitherG3777 deathG2288 norG3777 lifeG2222, neitherG3777 angelsG32 norG3777 principalitiesG746, neitherG3777 the presentG1764 norG3777 the futureG3195, norG3777 any powersG1411, 39neitherG3777 heightG5313 norG3777 depthG899, norG3777 anythingG5100 elseG2087 in all creationG2937, will be ableG1410 to separateG5563 usG1473 fromG575 theG3588 loveG26 of GodG2316 thatG3588 is inG1722 ChristG5547 JesusG2424 ourG1473 LordG2962.
