The Temptation of Jesus
11ThenG5119 JesusG2424 was ledG321 upG321 by the SpiritG4151 into the wildernessG2048 2to be temptedG3985 by the devilG1228. 2And after He had 3fastedG3522 for fortyG5065 daysG2250 and fortyG5065 nightsG3571, He 4thenG5305 became hungryG3983. 3And 5the tempterG3985 cameG4334 and saidG3004 to Him, “IfG1487 You are the 6SonG5207 of GodG2316, commandG3004 that theseG3778 stonesG3037 becomeG1096 breadG740.” 4But He answeredG611 and saidG3004, “It is writtenG1125: ‘7ManG444 shall not liveG2198 on breadG740 aloneG3441, but on everyG3956 wordG4487 that comesG1607 outG1607 ofG1223 the mouthG4750 of GodG2316.’”
5ThenG5119 the devilG1228 tookG3880 Him alongG3880 into 8the holyG40 cityG4172 and had Him standG2476 on the pinnacleG4419 of the templeG2413, 6and he saidG3004 to Him, “IfG1487 You are the SonG5207 of GodG2316, throwG906 YourselfG4572 downG2736; for it is writtenG1125: ‘9He will giveG1781 His angelsG32 ordersG1781 concerningG4012 You’; and ‘On their handsG5495 they will liftG142 You up, SoG3379 thatG3379 You do notG3379 strikeG4350 Your footG4228 againstG4314 a stoneG3037.’” 7JesusG2424 saidG5346 to him, “10On the otherG3825 handG3825, it is writtenG1125: ‘11You shall not putG1598 the LordG2962 your GodG2316 toG1598 theG1598 testG1598.’”
812AgainG3825, the devilG1228 tookG3880 Him alongG3880 to a veryG3029 highG5308 mountainG3735 and showedG1166 Him allG3956 the kingdomsG932 of the worldG2889 and their gloryG1391; 9and he saidG3004 to Him, “13AllG3956 theseG3778 thingsG3778 I will giveG1325 You, ifG1437 You fallG4098 downG4098 and 14worshipG4352 me.” 10ThenG5119 JesusG2424 saidG3004 to him, “GoG5217 awayG5217, SatanG4567! For it is writtenG1125: ‘15You shall worshipG4352 the LordG2962 your GodG2316, and 16serveG3000 Him onlyG3441.’” 11ThenG5119 the devilG1228 leftG863 Him; and beholdG2400, 17angelsG32 cameG4334 and began to serveG1247 Him.
Jesus Begins His Ministry
12NowG1161 when Jesus heardG191 that 18JohnG2491 had been takenG3860 intoG3860 custodyG3860, 19He withdrewG402 into GalileeG1056; 13and leavingG2641 NazarethG3478, He cameG2064 and 20settledG2730 in CapernaumG2746, which is by the seaG3864, in the regionG3725 of ZebulunG2194 and NaphtaliG3508. 14This happened soG2443 thatG2443 whatG3588 was spokenG3004 throughG1223 IsaiahG2268 the prophetG4396 would be fulfilledG4137:15“21The landG1093 of ZebulunG2194 and the landG1093 of NaphtaliG3508, 22By the wayG3598 of the seaG2281, on the otherG4008 sideG4008 of the JordanG2446, GalileeG1056 of the 23GentilesG1484--1624The peopleG2992 who were sittingG2521 in darknessG4653 sawG3708 a greatG3173 LightG5457, And thoseG3588 who were sittingG2521 in the landG5561 and shadowG4639 of deathG2288, Upon them a LightG5457 dawnedG393.”
1725From that timeG5119 JesusG2424 beganG757 to 26preachG2784 and sayG3004, “27RepentG3340, for the kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 hasG1448 comeG1448 nearG1448.”
The First Disciples
1828NowG1161 as Jesus was walkingG4043 by 29the SeaG2281 of GalileeG1056, He sawG3708 twoG1417 brothersG80, 30SimonG4613, who was calledG3004 PeterG4074, and his brotherG80 AndrewG406, castingG906 a netG293 into the seaG2281; for they were fishermenG231. 19And He saidG3004 to them, “31FollowG1205G3694 Me, and I will makeG4160 you fishersG231 of peopleG444.” 20ImmediatelyG2112 they leftG863 their netsG1350 and followedG190 Him. 21GoingG4260 onG4260 fromG1564 thereG1564 He sawG3708 twoG1417 otherG243 brothersG80, 3233JamesG2385 the son of ZebedeeG2199, and his brotherG80 34JohnG2491, in the boatG4143 with their fatherG3962 ZebedeeG2199, mendingG2675 their netsG1350; and He calledG2564 them. 22ImmediatelyG2112 they leftG863 the boatG4143 and their fatherG3962, and followedG190 Him.
Ministry in Galilee
23Jesus was goingG4013 35aboutG4013 in allG3650 of GalileeG1056, 36teachingG1321 in their synagoguesG4864 and 37proclaimingG2784 the 38gospelG2098 of the kingdomG932, and 39healingG2323 everyG3956 diseaseG3554 and everyG3956 sicknessG3119 amongG1722 the peopleG2992.
24And the newsG189 about Him spreadG565 40throughoutG1519G3650 SyriaG4947; and they broughtG4374 to Him allG3956 who were illG2192G2560, those sufferingG4912 with variousG4164 diseasesG3554 and severeG931 painG931, 41demon-possessedG1139, peopleG4583 withG4583 42epilepsyG4583, and peopleG3885 who were 43paralyzedG3885; and He healedG2323 them. 25LargeG4183 crowdsG3793 44followedG190 Him from GalileeG1056 and 45the DecapolisG1179, and JerusalemG2414, and JudeaG2449, and from 46beyondG4008 the JordanG2446.
