Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God
11WhatG5101 shall we sayG3004 thenG3767? Are we to 2continueG1961 in sinG266 soG2443 that graceG5485 may increaseG4121? 23May it neverG3361 be! HowG4459 shall we whoG3748 4diedG599 to sinG266 stillG2089 liveG2198 in it? 3OrG2228 do you not knowG50 that allG3745 of us whoG3745 have been 5baptizedG907 into 6ChristG5547 JesusG2424 have been baptizedG907 into His deathG2288? 4ThereforeG3767 we have been 7buriedG4916 with Him throughG1223 baptismG908 into deathG2288, soG3779 that as ChristG5547 was 8raisedG1453 from the deadG3498 throughG1223 the 9gloryG1391 of the FatherG3962, soG3779 we tooG2532 might walkG4043 in 10newnessG2538 of lifeG2222. 5For 11ifG1487 we have becomeG1096 12unitedG4854 with Him in the likenessG3667 of His deathG2288, certainlyG235 we shall alsoG2532 be 13in the likeness of His resurrectionG386, 6knowingG1097 thisG3778, that our 14oldG3820 15selfG444 was 16crucifiedG4957 with Him, in orderG2443 that our 17bodyG4983 of sinG266 might be 18doneG2673 awayG2673 with, so that we would noG3371 longerG3371 be slavesG1398 to sinG266; 7for 19he who has diedG599 is 20freedG1344 from sinG266.
8NowG1161 21ifG1487 we have diedG599 with ChristG5547, we believeG4100 that we shall alsoG2532 liveG4800 with Him, 9knowingG3609 that ChristG5547, having been 22raisedG1453 from the deadG3498, 23is neverG3765 to dieG599 againG3765; 24deathG2288 noG3765 longerG3765 is masterG2961 overG2961 Him. 10For the death that He diedG599, He diedG599 to sinG266 onceG2178 for allG2178; but the lifeG2198 that He livesG2198, He livesG2198 to GodG2316. 11EvenG2532 soG3779 considerG3049 yourselvesG1438 to be 25deadG3498 to sinG266, but aliveG2198 to GodG2316 in ChristG5547 JesusG2424.
12ThereforeG3767 do not let sinG266 26reignG936 in your mortalG2349 bodyG4983 soG1519 that you obeyG5219 its lustsG1939, 13and do not go on 27presentingG3936 28the membersG3196 of your body to sinG266 as 29instrumentsG3696 of unrighteousnessG93; but 30presentG3936 yourselvesG1438 to GodG2316 as those aliveG2198 from the deadG3498, and your membersG3196 as 31instrumentsG3696 of righteousnessG1343 to GodG2316. 14For 32sinG266 shall not 33be masterG2961 overG2961 you, for 34you are not underG5259 lawG3551 but 35underG5259 graceG5485.
15WhatG5101 thenG3767? 36Shall we sinG264 becauseG3754 we are not underG5259 lawG3551 but underG5259 graceG5485? 37May it neverG3361 be! 16Do you not 38knowG3609 that whenG3739 you presentG3936 yourselvesG1438 to someoneG3739 as 39slavesG1401 for obedienceG5218, you are slavesG1401 of the one whomG3739 you obeyG5219, eitherG2273 of 40sinG266 41resultingG1519 in deathG2288, orG2228 of obedienceG5218 42resultingG1519 in righteousnessG1343? 17But 43thanksG5485 be to GodG2316 that 44though you were slavesG1401 of sinG266, you becameG5219 obedientG5219 from the heartG2588 to that 45formG5179 of teachingG1322 to whichG3739 you were committedG3860, 18and having been 46freedG1659 from sinG266, you becameG1402 slavesG1402 of righteousnessG1343. 1947I am speakingG3004 in humanG442 termsG442 becauseG1223 of the weaknessG769 of your fleshG4561. For justG5618 48as you presentedG3936 your membersG3196 as slavesG1401 to impurityG167 and to lawlessnessG458, 49resultingG1519 in further lawlessnessG458, soG3779 nowG3568 presentG3936 your membersG3196 as slavesG1401 to righteousnessG1343, 50resultingG1519 in sanctificationG38.
20For 51whenG3753 you were slavesG1401 of sinG266, you were freeG1658 in regard to righteousnessG1343. 21ThereforeG3767 whatG5101 5253benefitG2590 were you thenG5119 54derivingG2192 55from the things of whichG3739 you are nowG3568 ashamedG1870? For the outcomeG5056 of thoseG1565 thingsG1565 is 56deathG2288. 22But nowG3570 having been 57freedG1659 from sinG266 and 58enslavedG1402 to GodG2316, you 59deriveG2192 your 6061benefitG2590, 62resultingG1519 in sanctificationG38, and 63the outcomeG5056, eternalG166 lifeG2222. 23For the wagesG3800 of 64sinG266 is deathG2288, but the freeG5486 giftG5486 of GodG2316 is 65eternalG166 lifeG2222 in ChristG5547 JesusG2424 our LordG2962.
