Matthew 27:27-56
271ThenG5119 the soldiersG4757 of the governorG2232 tookG3880 JesusG2424 into 2the 3PraetoriumG4232 and gatheredG4863 the wholeG3650 Roman 45cohortG4686 aroundG1909 Him. 28They strippedG1562 Him and 6putG4060 a scarletG2847 robeG5511 on Him. 297And after twistingG4120 together a crownG4735 of thornsG173, they putG2007 it on His headG2776, and a 8reedG2563 in His rightG1188 handG1188; and they kneltG1120 downG1120 beforeG1715 Him and mockedG1702 Him, sayingG3004, “9HailG5463, KingG935 of the JewsG2453!” 3010They spatG1716 on Him, and tookG2983 the reedG2563 and began to beatG5180 Him on the headG2776. 3111AfterG3753 they had mockedG1702 Him, they tookG1562 the scarlet robeG5511 offG1562 Him and putG1746 His own garmentsG2440 back on Him, and ledG520 Him awayG520 to crucifyG4717 Him.
3212As they were comingG1831 out, they foundG2147 a manG444 of 13CyreneG2956 namedG3686 SimonG4613, 14whomG3778 they pressedG29 into serviceG29 to bearG142 His crossG4716.
3315And when they cameG2064 to a placeG5117 calledG3004 16GolgothaG1115, whichG3739 meansG3004 PlaceG5117 of a SkullG2898, 3417they gaveG1325 Him 18wineG3631 to drinkG4095 mixedG3396 with gallG5521; and after tastingG1089 it, He was unwillingG3756G2309 to drinkG4095.
35And when they had crucifiedG4717 Him, 19they dividedG1266 up His garmentsG2440 amongG1266 themselves by castingG906 20lotsG2819. 36And sittingG2521 downG2521, they began to 21keepG5083 watchG5083 overG5083 Him thereG1563. 37And aboveG1883 His headG2776 they putG2007 up the chargeG156 againstG156 Him 22which readG1125, “23THISG3778 IS JESUSG2424 THE KINGG935 OF THE JEWSG2453.”
38At that timeG5119 twoG1417 robbersG3027 were crucifiedG4717 with Him, oneG1520 on the rightG1188 and oneG1520 on the leftG2176. 39And thoseG3588 passingG3899 by were 24hurlingG987 abuseG987 at Him, 25waggingG2795 their headsG2776 40and sayingG3004, “26You who are going to destroyG2647 the templeG3485 and rebuildG3618 it in threeG5140 daysG2250, saveG4982 YourselfG4572! 27IfG1487 You are the SonG5207 of GodG2316, comeG2597 downG2597 from the crossG4716.” 41In the sameG3668 wayG3668 the chiefG749 priestsG749 alsoG2532, along with the scribesG1122 and eldersG4245, were mockingG1702 Him and sayingG3004, 42“28He savedG4982 othersG243; 29He cannotG1410G3756 saveG4982 HimselfG1438. 30He is the KingG935 of IsraelG2474; let Him nowG3568 comeG2597 downG2597 from the crossG4716, and we will believeG4100 in Him. 4331He trustsG3982 in GodG2316; let GodG2316 rescueG4506 Him nowG3568, ifG1487 He 32delightsG2309 in Him; for He saidG3004, ‘I amG1510 the SonG5207 of GodG2316.’” 4433The robbersG3027 who had been crucifiedG4957 with Him were alsoG2532 insultingG3679 Him with the sameG846 words.
4534NowG1161 from the 35sixthG1623 hourG5610 darknessG4655 36fellG1096 upon allG3956 the landG1093 untilG2193 the 37ninthG1729 hourG5610. 46AboutG4012 the ninthG1729 hourG5610 JesusG2424 criedG310 out with a loudG3173 voiceG5456, sayingG3004, “38EliG2241, EliG2241, lamaG2982 sabachthaniG4518?” that is, “My GodG2316, My GodG2316, whyG2444 have You forsakenG1459 Me?” 47And someG5100 of thoseG3588 who were standingG2476 thereG1563, when they heardG191 it, began sayingG3004, “ThisG3778 manG3778 is callingG5455 for ElijahG2243.” 4839ImmediatelyG2112 oneG1520 of them ranG5143, and takingG2983 a spongeG4699, he filledG4092 it with sourG3690 wineG3690 and putG4060 it on a reedG2563, and gaveG4222 Him a drinkG4222. 49But the restG3062 of them saidG3004, “40LetG863 us seeG3708 whetherG1487 ElijahG2243 will comeG2064 to saveG4982 Him41.” 50And JesusG2424 42criedG2896 out againG3825 with a loudG3173 voiceG5456, and yieldedG863 up His spiritG4151. 5143And beholdG2400, 44the 45veilG2665 of the templeG3485 was tornG4977 in twoG1417 from topG509 to bottomG2736; and 46the earthG1093 shookG4579 and the rocksG4073 were splitG4977. 52The tombsG3419 were openedG455, and manyG4183 bodiesG4983 of the 47saintsG40 who had 48fallenG2837 asleepG2837 were raisedG1453; 53and comingG1831 out of the tombsG3419 afterG3326 His resurrectionG1454 they enteredG1525 49the holyG40 cityG4172 and appearedG1718 to manyG4183. 5450NowG1161 the centurionG1543, and thoseG3588 who were with him 51keepingG5083 guardG5083 overG5083 JesusG2424, when they sawG3708 52the earthquakeG4578 and the things that were happeningG1096, became veryG4970 frightenedG5399 and saidG3004, “TrulyG230 thisG3778 was 5354the SonG5207 of GodG2316!”
5555ManyG4183 womenG1135 were thereG1563 lookingG2334 on from a distanceG3113, whoG3748 had followedG190 JesusG2424 from GalileeG1056 while 5657ministeringG1247 to Him. 56AmongG1722 them was 58MaryG3137 MagdaleneG3094, and MaryG3137 the motherG3384 of JamesG2385 and JosephG2501, and 59the motherG3384 of the sonsG5207 of ZebedeeG2199.
