1 Corinthians 7 1 But concerning Περὶ Peri G4012 the things ὧν hōn G3739 of which ye have written G1125 [ to me]: [ It is ] good καλὸν kalon G2570 for a man ἀνθρώπῳ anthrōpō G444 not to touch ἅπτεσθαι· haptesthai G681 a woman γυναικὸς gunaikos G1135 ; 3 Let the husband ἀνὴρ anēr G435 render G591 her due to the wife γυναικὶ gunaiki G1135 , and in like manner the wife γυνὴ gunē G1135 to the husband ἀνδρί. andri G435 . 4 The wife γυνὴ gunē G1135 has not authority ἐξουσιάζει exousiazei G1850 over her own ἰδίου idiou G2398 body σώματος sōmatos G4983 , but the husband ἀνήρ· anēr G435 : in like manner also καὶ kai G2532 the husband ἀνὴρ anēr G435 has not authority ἐξουσιάζει exousiazei G1850 over his own ἰδίου idiou G2398 body σώματος sōmatos G4983 , but the wife γυνή. gunē G1135 . 5 Defraud G650 not one ἀλλήλους allēlous G240 another , unless , it may be ἦτε, ēte G1510 , by consent for a time καιρόν, kairon G2540 , that ye may devote yourselves to prayer προσευχῇ proseuchēa G4335 , and again πάλιν palin G3825 be G1510 together , that Satan σατανᾶς satanas G4567 tempt G3985 you not because of your incontinency. 6 But this I say λέγω legō G3004 , as consenting [ to ], not as commanding [ it ]. 8 But I say Λέγω Legō G3004 to the unmarried ἀγάμοις agamois G22 and to the widows χήραις, chērais G5503 , It is good καλὸν kalon G2570 for them that they remain μείνωσιν meinōsin G3306 even G2532 as I . 9 But if they have not control over themselves , let them marry γαμησάτωσαν· gamēsatōsan G1060 ; for it is G1510 better to marry γαμῆσαι gamēsai G1060 than to burn πυροῦσθαι.¶ purousthai G4448 . 10 But to the married G1060 I enjoin, not I , but the Lord κύριος, kurios G2962 , Let not wife γυναῖκα gunaika G1135 be separated G5563 from husband ἀνδρὸς andros G435 ; 11 ( but if also G2532 she shall have been separated G5563 , let her remain μενέτω menetō G3306 unmarried ἄγαμος agamos G22 , or be reconciled to her husband ἀνδρὶ andri G435 ;) and let not husband ἄνδρα andra G435 leave G863 wife γυναῖκα gunaika G1135 . 12 But as to the rest λοιποῖς loipois G3062 , I say λέγω legō G3004 , not the Lord κύριος, kurios G2962 , If any brother ἀδελφὸς adelphos G80 have an unbelieving ἄπιστον apiston G571 wife γυναῖκα gunaika G1135 , and she consent to dwell with him , let him not leave G863 her . 13 And a woman γυνὴ gunē G1135 who has an unbelieving ἄπιστον apiston G571 husband ἄνδρα andra G435 , and he consents συνευδοκεῖ suneudokei G4909 to dwell with her , let her not leave G863 [ her ] husband ἄνδρα. andra G435 . 15 But if the unbeliever ἄπιστος apistos G571 go away, let them go away; a brother ἀδελφὸς adelphos G80 or a sister ἀδελφὴ adelphē G79 is not bound in such τοιούτοις· toioutois G5108 [cases], but God θεός. theos G2316 has called κέκληκεν keklēken G2564 us in peace εἰρήνῃ eirēnē G1515 . 16 For what knowest thou, O wife γύναι, gunai G1135 , if thou shalt save σώσεις; sōseis G4982 thy husband ἄνδρα andra G435 ? or what knowest thou, O husband ἄνερ, aner G435 , if thou shalt save σώσεις; sōseis G4982 thy wife γυναῖκα gunaika G1135 ? 17 However , as the Lord κύριος, kurios G2962 has divided to each , as God θεός, theos G2316 has called κέκληκεν keklēken G2564 each , so let him walk περιπατείτω· peripateitō G4043 ; and thus G3779 I ordain in all the assemblies. 18 Has any one G5100 been called ἐκλήθη; eklēthē G2564 circumcised G4059 ? let him not become uncircumcised : has any one G5100 been called κέκληταί keklētai G2564 in uncircumcision ἀκροβυστίᾳ akrobustia G203 ? let him not be circumcised G4059 . 19 Circumcision περιτομὴ peritomē G4061 is G1510 nothing , and uncircumcision ἀκροβυστία akrobustia G203 is G1510 nothing ; but keeping God's commandments ἐντολῶν entolōn G1785 . 20 Let each abide μενέτω. menetō G3306 in that calling κλήσει klēsei G2821 in which he has been called ἐκλήθη, eklēthē G2564 . 21 Hast thou been called ἐκλήθης; eklēthēs G2564 [ being ] a bondman, let it not concern thee; but and if thou canst become γενέσθαι, genesthai G1096 free ἐλεύθερος eleutheros G1658 , use G5530 [ it ] rather μᾶλλον mallon G3123 . 23 Ye have been bought G59 with a price τιμῆς timēs G5092 ; do not be the bondmen of men G444 . 24 Let each , wherein he is called ἐκλήθη, eklēthē G2564 , brethren , therein abide μενέτω menetō G3306 with God θεῷ.¶ theō G2316 . 25 But concerning Περὶ Peri G4012 virgins παρθένων parthenōn G3933 , I have no commandment ἐπιταγὴν epitagēn G2003 of [ the ] Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 ; but I give δίδωμι didōmi G1325 my opinion , as having received mercy ἠλεημένος ēleēmenos G1653 of [ the ] Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 to be G1510 faithful G4103 . 28 But if thou shouldest also G2532 marry γαμήσῃς, gamēsēs G1060 , thou hast not sinned ἥμαρτες· hēmartes G264 ; and if the virgin παρθένος, parthenos G3933 marry γήμῃ gēmē G1060 , they have not sinned ἥμαρτεν· hēmarten G264 : but such τοιοῦτοι· toioutoi G5108 shall have tribulation θλῖψιν thlipsin G2347 in the flesh σαρκὶ sarki G4561 ; but I spare G5339 you . 30 and they that weep κλαίοντες klaiontes G2799 , as not weeping κλαίοντες, klaiontes G2799 ; and they that rejoice G5463 , as not rejoicing G5463 ; and they that buy ἀγοράζοντες agorazontes G59 , as not possessing ; 31 and they that use G5530 the world κόσμον kosmon G2889 , as not disposing of it as their own; for the fashion of this world κόσμου kosmou G2889 passes. 32 But I wish G2309 you to be G1510 without care . The unmarried ἄγαμος agamos G22 cares for the things of the Lord κυρίου, kuriou G2962 , how πῶς pōs G4459 he shall please ἀρέσῃ aresē G700 the Lord κυρίῳ· kuriō G2962 ; 33 but he that has married G1060 cares for the things of the world κόσμου, kosmou G2889 , how πῶς pōs G4459 he shall please ἀρέσῃ aresē G700 his wife γυναικί, gunaiki G1135 . 34 There is ᾖ ē G1510 a difference between the wife G1135 and the virgin παρθένος parthenos G3933 . The unmarried ἄγαμος agamos G22 cares for the things of the Lord κυρίου, kuriou G2962 , that she may be G1510 holy ἁγία hagia G40 both in body σώματι sōmati G4983 and spirit πνεύματι· pneumati G4151 ; but she that has married G1060 cares for the things of the world κόσμου, kosmou G2889 , how πῶς pōs G4459 she shall please ἀρέσῃ aresē G700 her husband ἀνδρί. andri G435 . 35 But I say λέγω, legō G3004 this for your own profit; not that I may set a snare before you , but for what [ is ] seemly, and waiting on the Lord κυρίῳ kuriō G2962 without distraction. 36 But if any one G5100 think G3543 that he behaves unseemly to his virginity, if he be ᾖ ē G1510 beyond the flower of his age, and so it must be G1510 , let him do what he will , he does not sin ἁμαρτάνει, hamartanei G264 : let them marry γαμείτωσαν. gameitōsan G1060 . 37 But he who stands G2476 firm G2476 in his heart καρδίᾳ kardia G2588 , having no need , but has authority ἐξουσίαν exousian G1849 over his own ἰδίου idiou G2398 will , and has judged G2919 this in his heart καρδίᾳ kardia G2588 to keep τηρεῖν tērein G5083 his own ἰδίᾳ idia G2398 virginity, he does well καλῶς kalōs G2573 . 38 So that he that marries himself does well καλῶς kalōs G2573 ; and he that does not marry does better . ← 1 Corinthians 6 1 Corinthians 8 → Commentaries on 1 Corinthians 7 Darby Bible — 1889 — Public Domain
